  • My half plan stopped at 10 miles and I will never stop at 10 again. I would suggest going up to 14 or 15 since you have time, that way on race day it will feel like "only 13" instead of "OMG another 5k" to finish. Build in some hill repeats and speedwork.
  • Mix of older and newer songs... Stronger - Kanye West Get Lucky - Daft Punk Pompeii - Bastille The Man - Aloe Blacc All I Do is Win - DJ Khaled Sing - Ed Sheeran
  • Won't beat the dead calorie horse, but only offer my empathy. I lost 89 pounds, then got more serious about running distance and training to complete longer races (just did my first 10k and doing a half marathon in November). I find it really hard to maintain good endurance, strength, and motivation to be the best runner I…
  • The one that works best for me has been Runtastic.
  • I like a slow jog of just a mile or two in order to loosen up the soreness, done the day after my run that caused the soreness. It really does seem to be the best remedy.
  • Just want to echo that my 5k times have also improved now that I'm doing long runs once a week in preparation for a half marathon. I think even increasing slowly up to 5-6 miles will show improvement. I wouldn't worry about speedwork yet (that can come later when your improvements are harder to come by).
  • Running the New River half in May. Very excited! Each Sunday run makes me feel a little more confident in accomplishing this.
  • There are quite a few Fleet Feet stores in the south depending on where you live (I have one in my town in NC). They are great. I am a Saucony loyalist, but everyone has different needs.

  • Indoor track work will be helpful, as I feel that treadmill to surface is quite a difference. Run slow, don't worry about your pace, as that will come. I began running as a severly overweight person. Knee pain will happen, so look around for strength training exercises that will help build your knees. Invest in good shoes…
  • Good luck, that is super exciting! If you can run 13, then I'm sure you'll be ready for the full marathon in June. I am doing my first half marathon in May, and just started training last week.
  • Thanks for the ideas! Luckily, running is so personal so I can experiment and test many hypotheses to find what works for me. Honestly, I wouldn't have even thought about running without music. I've never tried it! It was my former way to not watch my clock! I need to find my inner peace. To give you an idea, my first mile…
  • If you aren't comfortable moving up to week 5 (which is a doozy), then I would repeat week 4. I did C25K about 1.5 years ago, and if I could go back and give advice to my old self, it would have been to work up my speed while doing the program, and be patient. If you have until Thanksgiving, then you're in fine shape. The…
  • Fantastic! I also started on April 30th of 2012. Your running success is very inspirational, as I have just recently decided to start training for a 10K after doing several 5ks in the past year. Great job! You look fantastic.
  • I try to net around 1200 calories, so with exercise my daily count is around 1500. High density, low calorie foods are my friend: - Add watery fruits and veggies into your meals....watermelon, strawberries, cucumber - Protein in the morning from eggs, cottage cheese, or shakes - Lunch: Big salads with spinach, peppers,…
  • I've lost right around 84 pounds. Gone from size 22 pants to a comfy 14 that gets baggy if the jeans are poly blend, so getting close to a 12. Shirts from 3X to L or XL depending on brand and material. Bra from a 42DDD to a 36DD. Shoes from a 10 to a 9, ha!
  • JIllian Michaels 30 Day Shred does me no favors in weight loss, but reshapes the body. You could be retaining water and also building muscle, which will eventually cause weight loss but not immediate gratification. I find that water makes the difference for me. Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces. Cottage…
  • You're losing 4 lbs per month on average...that sounds great! A huge portion of that early weight was water, now you are steady. Just be patient!
  • Old Navy Rockstar jeans, and try a size down from your normal size.

  • Hmm. I have lost over 80 pounds and have gotten really excellent definition with running being 90% of my workout repertoire. Started Insanity recently, but my actual goal from it was to increase my cardio endurance as I now wish to run faster and longer races. Personally, I think a mix of both cardio and strength is the…
  • Great job! You look absolutely stunning!
  • I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like your knee is bothersome but not an injury that requires rest. I too have occasional knee pain from running (exact same as you, pain is worse AFTER the run). I read this article from Runner's World a few weeks ago and am incorporating the knee strengthening exercises into my routine.…

  • I've lost 81 lbs, and the first 50 were by becoming a runner. Now I've diversified my routine a bit to get out of a plateau.
  • I also enjoy both running and Insanity. I've been doing Insanity for a month, and it has definitely helped me run faster. Not sure what your running goals are, but this was a great side benefit for me! (Not to mention the toning effect and overall inches lost)
  • 2 or 3 chocolate glazed and/or cream filled Dunkin Donuts for breakfast, with a fine huge latte made with whole milk; for dinner I'd have a juicy steak, loaded potato, salad with cheese and bacon and real Ranch dressing, a big pint of craft brew beer, and a brownie sundae for dessert. I'd probably skip lunch and be…
  • Day 16 here and have only lost 2 pounds :-) I find that I'm hungrier and definitely sweat/work more than when I only did running as my cardio. I've been losing over a year now so I did not expect the 20-30 lb. loss the commercials say. I think 2-3 inches off your waist is VERY attainable, and I also have heard and read…
  • Way to go! I'm in my third week....your results inspire me to keep digging deep!
  • You look fantastic! Proof that the scale is a *kitten*.
  • I would just offer them! My sister and I are both losing weight, but she started doing it months before me. I was happy to take her too-big clothes off her hands! Now I am handing over my too-big clothes to a friend who had started losing weight, but then found out she was pregnant. Cute clothes for larger ladies are…
