Anyone doing the Runner's World Run Streak Challenge?
Run at least one mile per day between Memorial Day and 4th of July. Trying it....on day 4, only running one mile on my "rest days". Technically, I'm on day 6 since I also ran on Saturday or Sunday. I have never run 40 days without a break and I hope it doesn't cause me to hurt myself - if that seems to be happening, I'll…

Advice on Becoming a Distance Runner?
I've been running now for about 18 months and have decided to set the lofty goal of running a half marathon this year. My original goal was a race on May 3rd, but I backed out after a long winter of too many cookies and too few runs. I've been back at my training for a couple of months now. To be honest, I know I'm not…

Best Socks for Running?
Training for a half marathon....my feet are a wreck! Bought some Smartwool socks but they give me hot spots. Any recommendations for good socks? I am willing to invest in my feet.

Maintaining Focus While Running
Does anyone have advice or tips on how they maintain focus during a run or race, particularly in hopes of a negative split? My mind wanders a lot, even during 3 mile runs, and I end up doing a great first mile, a crappy second mile, then a third mile that's somewhere between the two. I have a goal of doing a 30 minute 5K,…

Intermittent Fasting Methods
For those who practice IF, which method serms to be most effective for leaning out? I am especially curious about leangains (18/6) versus the 5:2 method. Which do you find easier to sustain long term?

Creative Ideas for Lifting Heavy
I don't want to join a gym (myriad of reasons, #1 being distance from my house). If I have a $200 budget to set up my own way of lifting heavy, what would you suggest? What I have now: stationary bike, 20 lb. kettlebell, 5 lb and 8 lb dumbells.

Eating More....Now What?
Background: I have been eating about 1300 calories per day for the last 3-4 months, slowly moving down per MFP's suggestion as I lose weight. I have been on MFP religiously for 11 months, and am down 77 pounds. However, I have not lost even a tenth of a pound in a month. To help me move from this plateau and prepare myself…

How to decide when you are too sick to work out?
This is such a stupid question, but how do you judge when you are sick enough to need a rest day versus just toughing it out? I am on day 5 of a head cold. I took off Thursday-Saturday without any exercise. Yesterday I tried to ignore it and ran outside for 3.5 miles because I just couldn't fathom taking four days off.…

Kettlebells - strength training or cardio?
Just curious. Right now, my 20 lb kettlebell routine, done 3-4x per week, is the only strength training that I do. Horrible, I know. The other days I run....running is my Prozac, and I am quickly learning to love the Kettlebell too. Curious if I can count KB training as strength, or am I fooling myself?

Choosing the Right Weight
Hi! I am new to the group, and was hoping someone could help me with figuring out how to select the weight that is best for me. I bought a 20 lb kettlebell that I've been using for a few weeks now, doing a KB routine that is 25 minutes long, and I'm usually a worn-out, sweating mess at the end of the 25 minutes, but am not…

Which running apps have the best GPS signal?
I run in my neighborhood and have yet to find a running app that is accurate. I'm currently using Charity Miles because I like that it donates per every mile run, however, there are certain segments where I lose the signal (example: I ran for 36 minutes, and it only read about 1.7 miles when I know by measuring my route in…

Any skaters or roller derby peeps here?
My original goal when starting this healthy lifestyle was to begin roller derby in 2013. I am a decent skater but have never done derby. However, I also have back issues, with sciatica that has plagued me since my early 20's (when I wasn't overweight). I was hoping that losing weight would help my back, but so far, I am…

2nd 5k on Thanksgiving
I wanted to come here to thank everyone for the support and advice that I've asked for over the past several months about running. I'm by no means a seasoned runner, and I'm slow as hell. For me, just entering and completing my first 5k back in October was a HUGE milestone for me. The first 5k took me a whopping 44 minutes…

Working with Kettle Bells
I used a kettle bell at the gym a couple of days ago and loved it. As a matter of fact, my abs were sore for 2 days. I would like to hear from anyone more experienced with kettle bells who might be able to suggest what sizes are best for home use, as well as any resources for exercises you can do at home. I used a 25-lb…

First 5K Fears
I'm in week 7 of C25K, and am thinking about doing a 5k tomorrow evening (random opportunity came up). I am so scared of actually signing up and doing one, so I think being spontaneous like this might be the only way to accomplish it. I can jog 25-30 minutes but I'm slow - like maybe 12 minute mile. I am afraid I'll finish…

How do you push through a plateau?
After 5.5 months, my scale has come to a screeching halt. Looking for any tips or advice that has worked for others to push through the plateau and get the scale moving down again (by plateau, I haven't lost even an ounce in 2 weeks). I still have plenty to lose, do cardio 5x per week for about 40 minutes per session with…

Crazy weight loss
I'm about 14 weeks into using the site and app religiously, and have my goals set to a 2 pound per week loss. Most weeks I lose between 1.5-2.5 lbs, so it's been quite accurate. However, I've lost almost 6 pounds just this week. What the heck? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Just find it interesting to have such a…
