Knee Pain.

Hey all,
I just completed C25K week 4 day 1 last night and I've been experiencing some right knee pain for the last week or so. It isn't really painful during my run but afterwards it's a different story.
I really do not want to stop this program so I've been icing my knee after workouts and taking ibuprofen as an anti-inflammatory when I go to bed. (I'm an RN)
I just want to know from some other fitness buffs out there whether or not they recommend that I pause my program (which I really, really do not want to do, I've made such progress)!
I've also thought about buying a knee brace to wear during my runs?
Stats:
5'9 Female
205 lbs
Thanks ahead of time for your input!

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like your knee is bothersome but not an injury that requires rest. I too have occasional knee pain from running (exact same as you, pain is worse AFTER the run). I read this article from Runner's World a few weeks ago and am incorporating the knee strengthening exercises into my routine.

Also might be time for new running shoes, or to have your gait checked. Knee pain and foot pain are my 2 signs that the tread is worn off. My mileage is fairly low but I tend to wear out shoes about every 5-6 months.0 -
Glad this topic came up as my right knee has been bothering me lately after running as well. I've had to cut back my running to just a couple times a week and I really would like to up my running. I think I'll go check out some new shoes.0

Thanks guys!
I just got a new pair of running shoes from Fleet Feet where they did gait analysis less than a month ago so I think I'm ok on shoes. I'm thinking that the pain is probably caused by my muscle weakness and I will for sure read up on those exercises!0 -
Hi There,
I actually had to give up running 4 years ago after continuing to train for a half marathon with an injury.
I am not a doctor but because my injury was so prolonged I know a lot about knee injuries.
You are doing the right thing with the ice and ibuprofen. Although I would suggest a rest from running as I wouldn't recommend what happened to me because I kept running through it hoping it would go away. The like of spin classes are very good for keeping you fitness up with no impact if you are resting from running.
Also a lot of female runners have problems with their knees because their body shapes aren't straight up and down like men's and the knee cap goes off to the side instead of straight up and down. Strengthening the quads helps with this, so lots of squats and lunges may help.
I hope you find this helpful and feel better soon!0
