I gave all of my clothes that were too big away--I'm never going back there. I refuse to buy clothes that are a size up. That's a big incentive not to let any small weight gain keep creeping up.

This may be a long shot, but are you sure that your scale for weighing yourself is accurate? The first 3 weeks after I started logging and cutting my calorie intake, my weight kept fluctuating 5 lbs. up and 5 lbs. down until I thought something might be wrong with my scale. I ordered a new scale online and by the time it…

I get the same "I don't care" attitude. It has taken me the last 3 months to turn my head around to "I DO care." Mostly, the result of my binges was maintaining my weight, but reality hit when I started gaining instead of losing, so for a while, I got back on the bandwagon to lose. I lost a little but then kept binging and…

First kiss age 12 at summer camp--I thought the boy was kind of weird because we didn't know each other very well, but it was interesting. First date age 14 at the World's Fair in New York. We took in the sights and then met up with his parents for dinner at the Spanish pavilion and watched Flamenco dancers!

During the last 2 weeks, on most days, I ate more than usual and then I would eat less than usual to try to make up for it, so my weight fluctuated up and down by 1.5 lbs. a couple of times. and I didn't like that yo-yo effect at all, but overall, I maintained. After reading many pre-holiday posts about whether people were…

MKEgal & Lifting4Lis, thanks for your advice! Nudging up the calories very slowly at maintenance sounds very right, as it might be tempting to go whole hog, which would not be a good habit to get into. I've flagged this post to remember that, when the time comes. I took a look at MKEgal's "About Me" -- it is so inspiring!…

Thank you, sheldonklein! The TDEE calculator at IIFYM lists the following at goal weight: 118 lbs, exercise 3x/wk, TDEE 1,444 That makes so much more sense! I think I will be able to deal with 1,444 cal./day at maintenance. At my current weight of 157.4, the TDEE calculator lists 1,688, which seems accurate because if I…

The Guinness Chocolate Cake was the best! A mild Guiness taste, not overwhelming.

I am nearing my halfway mark and feel like you do. It is helping me to put my focus on more exercise, rather than focusing on calories, because when I move more, I feel better and more motivated to be healthy, which is indirectly motivating me to stick to my calorie allowances. Congratulations on getting this far -- it's…

To stave off hunger, I eat more fats like nuts and lean protein. If I'm still hungry, a couple of cups of raw cabbage, raspberries, or sugarless jello are low calorie additions. Any overeating is due to my "wanting" something instead of eating better alternatives. I tend to go over 1200 calories 2-3x/wk, but I'm still…

In for accountability and weight loss. Groups does not seems to have a search, so I clicked on the gold star at the top of this page and then went to the grey star that is further up and to the right, right clicked on "open in a new tab" and the bookmark brings me back here. A workaround that seems to work.

At 17 lbs. down, a co-worker who knew that I was working on losing weight, said that my face looked soooo cute and that she could see I had lost weight. That made my day! At 30 lbs. lost, another co-worker noticed and also commented on how defined my face looked! I had forgotten that I have high cheek bones, lol -- they…

romaine, lettuce, cabbage tomatoes Greek yoghurt cottage cheese chicken tuna fish rye crisps light cheese wedges cocoa peanuts Always ate lots of beef, lean pork, & eggs, but now eat a lot more veggies, so protein is in smaller portions for calorie control (2-3 oz. per meal instead of 6 oz.).

Last week, my son pointed out to me that the first Noble Truth of Buddhism is that "life is suffering" and he asked "why would I think that my life would be any different than that?" Then he pointed out that it was suffering that motivated the Buddha to find a way out of it -- the second Noble Truth being that "there is a…

Your strength is so inspiring! Now you can be/become the person you truly want to be! I wish everything good for you in the future.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. You answered a question I have had for many, many years, about a cousin who was over 500 lbs. For many years, I assumed that hormone problems caused his weight gain and his inability to lose weight. When I asked family members, I was told no, it was because he ate too much. But I…

Maybe I can offer some encouragement. When I recently got to 15 lbs. lost, I started to feel more energetic. At that point, I pushed myself to walk 20 minutes a day, which I did by taking the bus every day to work -- 10 minutes to the bus and 10 minutes back. Then, instead of taking the elevator every time I have to go up…

Some suggestions: Plan ahead: what will you do the next time friends or family or just you want to overdo it? Don't know if it will work for you, but it helps me to think negatively, for example, "no, I don't really want my arteries clogged" or "no, I don't want to become diabetic" or "no, if I eat all this, it won't…

Congratulations to you for having lost so much weight! Kudos to you for not escalating the argument! For me, emotional eating when I am stressed does not take away any pain that I am feeling. What helps me is remember the positive things I am doing and commend myself for them -- that's what takes away the bitterness.…

I work in an office where there are lots of bowls of candy always available. Ok... so I went from a size 12 to a 14 -- not a big deal I thought, as I had been there before. In the spring, I couldn't zip up my jacket, but ok, I could wear it anyway, without zipping it up. The next fall, my pants were too tight again. I…
