  • For me it really depends on the activity. Yoga in the morning upon waking is a must, and I know I won't get it done any other time. Cardio has to be early as possible in the afternoon (2pm ideally, but if I was working now, I'd go RIGHT after work, otherwise it interferes with my sleep). Now regarding sleep, once I am…
  • Oh no! You guys are scaring me! I have a suit, and due to a surgical scar on my back I opt for a tankini style since it has the best back coverage, but that is expensive. I really hope mine holds up so I don't have to keep spending that money and so I don't have to accidentally flash the fellow swimmers :)
  • Everyone recommending Snickers....if you are trying to avoid trans fat in your diet, Snickers contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is a red flag to look for since companies don't have to report trans fat if it's less than .5 grams. If you want to buy something clean, I really love Larabars, though they…
  • I always drink low sodium V8, and add Black strap molasses to my morning oatmeal, both have a ton of potassium
  • I make fruit and green smoothies almost daily, and do half baby spinach and half frozen kale (3 oz each), just to get a more...complete green profile :)
  • I have a charge HR and I have really mixed feelings on it. I love the tracking, that I can get at least a rough HR estimate if I want it, and find the step counting to be accurate. I also like the stop watch function so that you can use if you hold the button down, and use it frequently if I am doing short bursts of…
  • Thanks guys for your suggestions! I am going to just try to swim for longer, once I can do that I might try hand paddles. I have a bad back, and my swim instructor said that using a buoy (or the tyr hydrofoil ankle floats, since I hate buoys) could be too hard on my back, so to use the hand paddles instead for more upper…
  • I like this attitude, I am going to start with incorporating this equipment free for a bit, and see if I need anything further later on. I don't want to unnecessarily complicate things right now :)
  • Hahaha, if it turns out the chlorine will save me from shaving my legs, I think I might increase it to a daily swim...I'd rather swim then shave!
  • Lol, I'm in the US, but hooray for another reason to revisit the UK! I loved it there when I visited the first time, and always wanted to go back.
  • Gentlygently....does your coach tell you to rotate the body length while holding the kickboard, and when you do so does the kickboard tilt along with you? It's hard to imagine since it floats...My teacher tells me to rotate when swimming without holding on to anything, it's the holding that darn thing gets me :)
  • I just avoid boards as much as possible because I can't for anything get the knack of it. If I try, I do the first mentioned (head in water) technique otherwise my hips sink too much, but I can't get the hang of rotating to breathe...so then I end up having to stop kicking and stand just to breathe. You mention that you…
  • Ah that sounds like it would be perfect for me! How did you manage the find this coach?
  • Personally I think timing does matter.....I have to have something light before bed that has protein and carb else it will contribute to poor sleep. I've also heard people say that eating at night does the opposite of what it does for me, so experiment and see what your body prefers and just go with that :) Also regarding…
  • Thanks guys! I have been using Aubrey's Organics Swimmer Shampoo and had the same drying affect, that would resolved with conditioner. I was just hoping for a shampoo that didn't seem as stripping. It sounds like the same situation as the Ultra. I tried Babo Botanicals swim and sport brand yesterday, and that might…
  • Thanks for your take on it! Which brand do you prefer?
  • I recently started taking swim lessons, and almost barely have free style down :) Going twice a week, and will start going three times a week once I can learn a second stroke. What kind of strokes do you guys prefer?
  • I don't have that problem, but do have hip, back, neck pain that limits my workouts. Have you tried water aerobics or swimming? I find the support of the water to be helpful with movement.
  • I have trouble strength training too because of various issues, including not be able to actually hold the weights. My plan right now is swimming, an elliptical with resistance, and yoga. Do you think any of those activities could help you start to gain strength?
  • So far mine has been pretty accurate, at worst just a few beats different then the heart rate reader on the machine I use. I have no issue getting it over 160, and the HR it claims feels consistent with how I feel. I just have to be sure to move out up my wrist according to instructions, and make sure it is snug but not…
  • I also want to suggest black strap molasses - the one I use (Plantation) has 20% RDA in one tablespoon, which I add to my oatmeal in the morning.
  • I don't have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but have other issues that make fatigue and pain an issue for me. Since I also have TMJD, I pretty much do the following each day: Breakfast: Rolled oatmeal prepared in the microwave. Lunch: Smoothie with fruits and greens, and some fat and protein powder to add calories to it.…
  • Yep, I have that problem too : /. For me, I think it has to do with insomnia. I just try not to have things that have much added sugar in my house, or else I will probably binge, and binge, and binge again...So if I don't have it nearby, I can't eat it
  • I brew Kombucha, and love to drink it every morning :). Personally, my favorite flavors for 2F are using elderberries, or tart cherry juice. I got into it simply because I tried it at the store, but quickly realized how expensive of a habit it can be.
  • Hard to say for sure with no photo, but I would imagine that you look fine. I am 5' 3, 3/4" and am aiming for 113, possibly down to 111 because I gain almost all of my weight in my stomach. I don't look too thin at that weight. Even at the weight I am at now I sometimes hear that I am too thin, but I know that's just…
  • As for what Kimny72 said, I have heard that as well and switch between baby spinach, frozen kale, and frozen collards. Also, I put a lot of spinach (3-5 oz), so I might be more likely to taste a difference than someone who might add less. The times I have tried the regular frozen spinach, I didn't like it, but could still…
  • Personally, I think fresh baby spinach has the most mild flavor in smoothies, so I prefer that. I've tried using frozen spinach before, but found it didn't taste as good. But, I know other people who use frozen just fine. I do use frozen kale in my smoothies as well with success.
  • I think these are pretty good for something sweetened without sugar. Since I'm not aiming for low carb right now, I don't see the need to have any of the artificial sweetener taste (I noticed this even in the Stevia versions, might be the sugar alcohol?). I am going to eat and enjoy the rest that I bought, and might try…
  • Sorry, no recipe...I eat spicy chicken sausage all the time, but I just heat it up in a pan and eat it plain. It's one of my favorite snacks.
  • I might be wrong, but my understanding was that you had to transition from treadmill to road. Could you run/walk the same distance you usually run on the road to try to ease the stress on your body?
