If you go under the cardiovascular exercise category and search for weight lifting or strength training, there is an approximation in there for calories burned time-wise. Not sure how accurate it is, but it's at least a rough idea. I don't find it useful as far as progress though, so I keep track of that in a notebook…

Definitely see your doctor, sooner rather than later. They will decide what's best to do next, assuming it's not minor stomach bug. Have them check for parasites (sorry to be gross, but they can wreak havoc and often times doctors don't think to rule them out right away in adults). I had a horrendous bout of stomach…

"The Halloween Tree" based on the book by Ray Bradbury, and "Halloween is Grinch Night." I can't find either of them on anything but VHS though!! Grrrrr... Favorite candy would probably be Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or Whatchamacallits. Or candy apples, not that you can hand those out anymore, lol!

Hi there and welcome! My husband just shipped out to boot camp yesterday; he is going active duty in the Army. So I think I'm sort of at a different place on the spectrum than most of the military spouses on here, being new to this whole situation, but would love to be friends anyway! Feel free to add me if you like. :)

I like option 3 the best. Number 2 is also nice but a bit bridesmaid-y which could get awkward, lol! Option 3 also has both colors you like, so then you don't have to choose between red or black! :)

To the OP, I don't think anyone "freaked out" on you, they disagreed with the mumbo-jumbo-pseudo-science presented in a Wikipedia article that you chose to post. It hurts to have your opinion critiqued but when you post something as definitive as "Truth" you must expect some reaction. You said there are other articles…

Unfortunately I think dialectics have become a lost art. Socrates and Plato should probably be mandatory reading for all students growing up. Resorting to name-calling, shouting-down and other schoolyard bully techniques actually betrays a flawed and weak ability to reason and argue a point.

^^^^THIS!!!^^^^ Very eloquently stated. No one is attacking the benefits of cardio, but they are much different than those of strength training with heavy weights. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here who will be thrilled to help you create a weight lifting program that you can work into your schedule, if…

I think it's pretty common for people to lose a lot of weight at first, then taper off even with consistent work. The first couple weeks are a shock to your body up against eating poorly and not exercising, so you lose extra water, etc. The other thing you can run into down the road is needing to change up your workout…

Not sure about baking, but I remember reading somewhere that you can season and grill kale to make chips. I'll be interested to see what people come up with!

1. Starting Weight, Height, Age, Sex: 172 lbs, 5'3", 25 years old, female 2. Daily Food Calorie Intake (not NET): Between 1100 and 1500 (my food diary is a little whack this week because of missing meals due to food poisoning) 3. Average Daily Exercise Calories Burned: 200-400 4. Daily Total Calorie Deficit: I usually aim…

I donate to Salvation Army or the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. I can't wait to get to the point where I can donate some clothes!!!! :)

Good for you for wanting to do these races! My husband and one of his Sergeants just ran the Spartan Race on August 27 (which, as I understand it, is sort of the big brother to the Warrior Dash). This is his (albeit insane) workout schedule. Granted, he has been training to go to Army basic training and later Ranger…

I would have to disagree with the article. I think it is more a matter of ease/convenience/habit that we perceive as "cheapness." My husband and I inadvertently tested the healthy-costs-more-than-junk theory the other day. We had gone to the grocery store early in the morning and got 2 lbs of carrots for $1.00, 1 lb of…

Thanks for letting me squeak in, I am psyched for the challenge! I had already started a personal walking goal of 300 miles by New Year so that part of the challenge will really help that goal!

Mashed potatoes. ARGH!!! The texture literally makes me gag.

Sounds like a great idea, actually!!

Yes, I would be interested! I know I haven't been the most active poster on here or FB but my buddy and I talk every day and I think it's been a huge help! Thank you so much for setting all this up!

I have a few different lists that I use, and I generally listen to a few songs, then switch over to an audio book. My workout list that is more representative of music I always like to listen to is pretty heavy. Probably my top 5 from that list are: Your Number is One - Rollins Band Suicide Messiah - Black Label Society…

Oh my god, yes! It's kind of terrible. I have pretty much two breakfasts: whole wheat peanut butter toast with a glass of chocolate almond milk, or a home-made shake with fresh strawberries and/or raspberries, chocolate almond milk, yogurt and ice. Definitely a good idea to check out each other's diaries, mine is 1200…

Well hello everyone! I am getting in on this week's challenge a bit late thanks to Hurricane Irene. We were lucky enough to maintain power but just got internet access back this afternoon and although I can do some things online via my Android phone, it only goes so far. I just got done with my nightly walk and I am…

1. I usually listen to audio books when I walk rather than music, believe it or not! I love music but I find if I get into a good book, I'll keep pushing myself to get to the end of the chapter... then want to hear the next chapter... It's a great way to keep yourself going! When I do go for music though, I have a few…

Frozen veggies can be pretty darn affordable, and tasty too... Bird's Eye or Green Giant or store brand, whatever's on sale. There are varieties with and without sauces which are usually low-cal anyway. Canned tuna is a great source of protein and omega 3s and is pretty low in calories (assuming you don't drown it in…

Wow... just... wow. :) How inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing this awesome video. I want to start strength training but have been feeling kind of shiftless and confused about starting. It's great to see real success!

Well, my diary frankly stunk today, and my walk got cut short by torrential rain. However, I feel as though I have made a big step in that I actually logged and completed my horrible diary... a month or two ago, I would have just avoided doing the whole thing so as not to embarass myself. Not the best strategy, as it turns…

Sounds delicious!

Just weighed in and filled out the check-in form for the first time and I am excited to start this challenge saying I lost 0.8 lbs! Not much, I know, but I haven't really been in the 150s for long in quite awhile. This also means I lost that extra 3 lbs I had acquired on my honeymoon! :embarassed: I like that the…

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. If it means anything, we all think you're pretty fabulous here! :) The most important opinion of you that matters, however, is your own. Try to keep in mind, "What other people think of me is none of my business." Keep doing things that make you feel good about yourself...…
