I would see a physical therapist to evaluate why you are having pain. There are a lot of muscles needed to run smoothly and if any of them are out of balance then knee pain can arise. For instance, frequently the hips are week or something. Strengthen the problem and pain is fixed :) GL

IMO it may not be super duper benificial cardiac wise, however, I can't imagine that it isn't helping to build muscle, as least a little bit. I do somehting similar, like walking lunges on the way to the br or something.
