  • I'd dump the egg whites. They're not that high in protein unless you drink a lot of it. They're also disgusting. The chips too. Chips are no good. The strawberries are ok. They should be frozen in water and not any kind of syrup though. I'd find a protein powder that has only artificial sweeteners. I can personally vouch…
  • You've made amazing progress. Were the people that said it people that knew you before you lost weight? Sometimes people can start to resent your success, especially if they are a little overweight. You've literally transformed. You probably have a lot more energy, more confidence and more interest from the opposite sex.…
  • How much water do you drink during the rest of the day? Your body can hold on to water for several hours. Drinking water during your routines is a good idea but you shouldn't be craving it. Sugary drinks, coffee and salty foods also pull the water out of your system. Make sure you're properly hydrated before you workout…
  • Sweat does nothing but cool your body. The more you sweat the longer it takes for your body to over heat. This is mostly genetic from what I've read. People who sweat a lot equate sweating to getting a good workout, they are correct but their logic is backward. They are sweating because they had a good workout not the…
  • If you're trying to lose weight I would do cardio first. Heart rate is the most important factor in weight loss. If you raise your heart rate with 10 minutes of cardio or so it should stay north of 128 - 130bpm for the duration of the strength training. In addition to fatiguing your muscles your body will burn more fat…
  • There's nothing wrong with a little ego, just don't let it get in the way. I do body weight squats as part of my warmup so I can practice my form. I just try to think about the science behind fitness. Everything else is *kitten*. Information is the only true path to success. I used to focus on lifting as much weight as…
  • Wow, I've been working out for years and I've never heard of anything like this happening even in high school. I agreed with what the OP said, but if I had witnessed any of this I definitely would have been on your side.
  • It looks like you're falling in that range between power lifting and cardio. It looks like your weights aren't heavy enough to be strength training or power lifting but your reps aren't high enough to be cardio. If you can get to the last few reps in your last set and you're not straining a little (strength) or out of…
  • Blend the following: Birthday Cake flavored Dymatize Nutrition Iso100 10 - 12oz milk 1 medium sized peach Greek Yogurt ice Dymatize ISO100 is the most popular protein on bodybuilder.com. It tastes better than anything I've had so far. If you have a good blender the ice will give it the consistency of a milkshake or…
  • Thanks for this! I can't count how many weird looks I've gotten from women who catch me looking at them. Most of the time I've exerted myself beyond my ability to think clearly and am looking for a distraction. Obviously, I don't stare if they're doing something provocative like dead-lifts. Either that or I'm learning…
  • No. Your body can only turn so much sugar into fuel (glucose/glycogen) at a time. The rest is stored even if you're starving yourself. http://www.fitwatch.com/weight-loss/can-i-eat-all-my-calories-for-the-day-in-one-meal-and-still-lose-weight-649.html Because your body can only handle so much energy in one sitting (just…
  • It's a side effect of diabetes. I was paraphrasing to try to explain why sugar isn't just used as fuel and is converted to fat when there is too much in the blood stream. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetes/expert-blog/high-blood-sugar/bgp-20056519 Blood sugar actually coats red blood cells (hemoglobin),…
  • I can't find a link. Calorie deficits just mean your body has to burn something. If you're eating too much sugar and burning calories your body can and will use your muscles as fuel. That means a slower metabolism even though the scale may be going in the right direction. You won't end up with the round appearance commonly…
  • The sad part is that we live in a country that leads the world in every type of obesity imaginable. We're also nearing the point where over-eating kills more people than starvation. Some of the links posted are probably propaganda from the sugar industry. Yes, that's a thing.…
  • The pancreas prevents it from happening in unless you have diabetes. Again the point is that all calories are not the same and just having a calorie deficit doesn't mean you'll get the results you're looking for. There's a reason sugar is stored as fat more quickly than other nutrients. I find it interesting that people…
  • Fruit isn't as bad because it has fiber. The fiber will make you feel full and slow down the absorption of sugar into your blood stream. It's not as good as say lettuce, but it's not as bad as a coke either. Fruit juice should be consumed in moderation since it has no fiber.
  • Sorry I meant gain fat which is still true depending on the circumstances. My point was that just because you are maintaining an energy deficit doesn't mean that everything is ok.
  • No you didn't read anything I wrote. Which one of us is trolling again?
  • I'm tired of arguing and this isn't trolling. You asked for info and I gave it to you.
  • It's not exactly 32g since everyone's limits are different. The generally accepted standard is the one released by the American Heart Association. Obviously those involved in endurance sports will have much higher limits. http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20090824/heart-group-limit-added-sugars-diet
  • You didn't read everything I wrote. Sugar is stored when the body can't process it. Otherwise the blood would become too dense and you'd die. Triggering this process too often leads to health problems. Obviously eating sugar while exercising heavily would not create this conditions.
  • Yea the food db here needs some love. I try to correct or at least mark the bad entries. I think the ones marked generic come from the USDA. Either way they seem to be accurate when applicable.
  • Of course not. However, stating that no fat is created during 6 hours of continuous exercise proves nothing about sugar intake in general. It's like examining dry skin while swimming.
  • I read the weightology one actually. It defended insulin as if that tells the whole tale. Like I said the difference between insulin with and without sugar is similar to the difference between pumping gas with and without a lit match. My point was those articles are written in a tone that obviously defends sugar intake as…
  • That's what most apps give me for gross burn. What is close? Why does that matter? I thought the point was whether or not you're storing fat during a 6 hour cycling session?
  • As others have said correlation is not causation, but I'll bite. I've only lost 5 pounds so far. I just started. A year or so ago I lost about 70 pounds which is when I learned about fitness. Feel free to take that and run with it. Just out of curiosity what did I say that you didn't agree with? Cycling doesn't burn 100…
  • You can't be serious.. Even slow cycling will burn about 1000 calories per hour. If you eat the sugar WHILE you're exercising things work differently. Otherwise there'd be no such thing as energy gels. Hopefully you're just trying to get a rise out of me. AKA. trolling. But why would someone fit enough to cycle for six…
  • Fine... Sugar doesn't cause insulin resistance, but it is linked to obesity (hopefully no one will argue with me there..) and obesity is linked to insulin resistance. (note the link from a reputable source instead of healthy_sounding_domain.com) Some experts believe obesity, especially excess fat around the waist, is a…
