As regards food, you can usually find something at every restaurant that is within your calorie range. The trick is to go out to the restaurant's website for a few minutes and find out if they have nutritionals with their menu - many do nowadays. If not, figure out the average calories around some of the items on the menu…

This is one I make all the time for parties, holidays, etc. It's probably on the line for your guidelines, but give it a shot. You may be able to cut down quantities and get there. Chocolate Toffee Mousse: http://ericastable.blogspot.com/2007/11/chocolate-toffee-mousse.html

I was having all kinds of trouble with my HRM. It was registering my heart rate correctly and everything, but all the calories burned were SUPER low - similar story. I had to go in and manually adjust the activity level and VO2 max settings they assigned me and, since then, I've been getting more reasonable readings (still…

OOOh. I've got some good ones for this: 1) Low carb bagel with a tablespoon of peanut butter and half a banana cut in pieces on top. Yum! 2) 0% Greek yogurt with local honey (good for allergies!) and a variety of fruit & nuts - the protein in the Greek yogurt and nuts keeps you full. I like bananas, blueberries, mandarin…

I agree 100% with what you've said here (and you've said a lot!): 1) Fad diets or eating plans that force you to NEVER, EVER eat a certain food again don't work long term. I lost a ton of weight on the low carb diet, every time I did it (3-4 times). BUT, let me cheat with one french fry, and suddenly my butt is 5 lbs…

I agree with you - it's a common theme that men (sorry guys) tend to be problem solvers for their own needs, and women tend to be problem solvers for others' needs and feel selfish if they do something for themselves. But, I am such a happier human being since I started my weight loss journey that I know I'm a better…

1) What food has been the hardest for you to give up or eat less of? ---Potato chips - like the slogan goes, I can't eat just one! 2) What is your favorite "diet food" - in general or a brand? ---Vitamuffins are magic, Laughing Cow, Carb V Carb Check bagels, Dreamfields pasta, light soy milk, Dreyer's slow churned ice…

Hi from Austin, your wacky neighbor to the south.

Hello from Austin - good luck!

HAH! Lol. Food that loves you back. Gambatte!

Hey, there, have totally gone through the same thing, where you've accomplished something but have a long way to go and are not sure you can ever get there. What helped me was 1) celebrating my successes, like everyone here is saying (good to reward yourself for mini-goals), 2) realizing that I didn't put on my weight…

Ice cream with nuts. Get rid of your sweet cravings and get some protein.

I have certain "red light foods" that I really can't control myself on, and I just avoid those if I can. But, others, where there's danger, I measure a normal portion, LOG IT BEFORE I EAT IT to keep myself honest and understand how many calories I'll be eating before I sit down with the bag in my hand, and put the rest…

Your net calorie goal includes a calorie deficit already, which should get you to that 1-2 lb weight loss per week, depending on what you chose in your settings. If you don't eat back your exercise calories, to get to net 1200, your body will lose weight for a while, then eventually think you're starving and stop losing…

That is just the best feeling, when you do something there's NO WAY you could have done when you started. And, a two minute plank is tough stuff even for someone in good shape. Keep it up, it's working!

I'd say to give it a little more of a chance. If you're like me, your metabolism takes a while to adjust to changes. So, if your metabolism is re-gearing, you may gain weight for a few weeks, then you'll lose.

Fiber One, Fiber One, Fiber One. Can I say it one more time? Yes, it looks like rabbit pellets, but it tastes good and, that with some sliced bananas and skim milk never fails to fill me up until lunchtime. Sometimes, I add a sprinkling of Chocolate Cheerios to the top to vary up the flavor.

Didn't load corrctly, sorry, just see the "before" part. Good for you, though!

OMG. Exercise keeps me sane. I have a stressful job and some more stress going on at home right now. Without regular exercise, I'd go postal. Sooooo much better than Prozac.

Not a surprise that it's bad for me. But, really, people, I gave up smoking, I rarely drink alcohol, I'm eating healthy/whole foods most of the time, I exercise 5x/week: is it realllllyyyyyy soooooo bad to have a Diet Coke once in a while? Every other day, it seems I hear about something new that's going to kill me - I…

I deal with this too. I come by my weight honestly - my parents eat unhealthy stuff constantly. I basically offer to shop and cook for them a bunch when I visit, to thank them for having me in the house. But, of course, it's really about having something I don't feel awful after eating. This could be a good way to…

Yep, I use pipe cleaners, too. Seems to be the consensus.

Here's the thing - I have certain "red light" foods that, once I start eating on them, I can't make myself stop. And, for those things, I either need to not have them in the house, or to take them out of the larger container and measure out a reasonable portion and put the rest away in a place that's above my eye level, so…

Had my first post HRM-fix workout today and the calories seem much more right on with what I would expect. Looks like it worked!

Hey, there, you inspired me. I did some internet research and not only found a half marathon in October to sign up for, but also a 10k next month at the.....get this......local lavender festival. Sweet.

I have a sometimes-love, sometimes-hate relationship with running, but I always keep coming back to it. I've done 5k's & 10k's, and tried training for a half marathon but then the race was sold out when I went to register, so I lost interest. Would like to find another half marathon and give it a shot. I'm a "dogged…

If you're looking for recipes, I have a separate web page where I've stored years of healthy, easy recipes that I really like. It's http://ericastable.blogspot.com Check it out. If you're looking for ideas on what to eat for everyday stuff that's low calorie, you might want to check out your MFP friends' food diaries if…

Yes, it has a chest strap. Got a Polar FT60, good brand.

Couple of things that work for me: 1) Glass of white wine - always a good go-to 2) Mix vodka with some of the minute maid "light" juices you can get in the grocery store (light lemonade is particularly tasty) 3) "Fauxgaritas" - definitely not as good as the real thing, but waaay lower in calories. You use Fresca, crystal…

Sorry you're having to go through this - tough to get all geared up for something and then not be able to complete your goal. A few thoughts on exercises: Someone else mentioned swimming. That's a great one. There are also arm-based cardio machines in most gyms (you grab handles and circle your arms), as well as rowing…
