  • Been doing CrossFit for about 2+ years now. If you really are interested, I'd find a box, go through fundamentals, and then just give it a shot for a month or two. EVERYONE who starts CF, even people who think they are in shape, wind up completely floored at first. Having good "cardio" or being a certain weight doesn't…
  • Been doing CrossFit for a bit over 2 years and I stopped trying to accurately calculate my caloroie burns a long while ago. When I first started I tracked for about 3 months using a HR strap and Polar M400. Understanding fully the issues with trying to use a HR monitor to track calorie burns doing anything other than…
  • Good luck. I've been crossfitting for about 2 years and hit my weight loss goals using MFP. I still track what I eat just to keep myself honest. My wife has been doing CrossFit about a year, and she's finally gotten board with MFP to track what she eats and is on her weight loss journey. Feel free to check out my profile…
  • Ouch. Sounds you know what watching from the sideline feels like then. Friend request accepted!
  • Coming from someone who has been doing CrossFit for a bit over 2 years - Don't listen to anyone who talks bad about CrossFit. Most have never done it. Try it and then decide for yourself. My wife watched me do it for a year, never getting it, then finally decided she needed to do something (she was very out of shape and…
  • If your only goal is to gain muscle (i.e. body building) then CrossFit probably won't allow you to build as much muscle as you could doing some other type of workout. If your goal is to get stronger, add some muscle, but become all around more athletic, then CrossFit probably would be fine. I've been doing CrossFit for…
  • Hey man. I've been doing CrossFit for about 2 years. I had to sit on the sideline for past 6 months due to a rotator cuff tear/surgery (not caused by CF, just normal wear and tear, warming up on the bench press it popped just under a year ago). I'm now back and the great thing is, some things I can do almost as well as I…

  • Been doing CrossFit for almost 2 years now, but was off for the past 6 months recovering from shoulder surgery. I was just cleared to start lifting again, so I'm back in the box doing 5 days a week. I didn't think I'd be back in time for the Open. I did the non-scaled Open last year, but this year I'll be doing it…
  • Tuna/Chicken/Etc. marinated in some avocado oil and grilled up would be 100% paleo. Nobody said anything about being limited, or using every ingredient under the sun. I just pointed out your original comment was wrong. It is paleo. Maybe boring, or not inclusive of vegetables, but still paleo.
  • With the right type of meat and oil, this is paleo. OP didn't give any limit to ingredients.
  • Because you're right. Push Press is different than a Strict Military Press. Deadlift is different than Sumo Deadlift. Back Squat different than Front Squat. Power Clean different than Squat Clean. And...Strict Pull-ups in all their variations (Narrow Grip, Normal Grip, Wide Grip, Neutral Grip, Chin-up) are different than…
  • Well said Obeg. I'm 47 and I'm in the best shape of my life. Even better I think than when I was playing sports in High School and College way back when. I truly believe CF is the fountain of youth. I know a lot of 40-50 year olds at our box feel the same way.
  • I have friends here on MFP who do CrossFit and friends who do not do Crossfit. Based on a quick mental count, I don't think any of my friends who do CrossFit are currently injured. However, I can count quite a few injured friends whose focus is mainly cardio (running/jogging) with some general strength training. There are…
  • Search the forums and you'll find lots of posts on the subject and be able to track down CF lovers there. I'm one, but don't always come into the Forums. Lots of CF haters here and the usually comments get old fast
  • Search the Forums and you'll find lovers and haters. Most of the haters (repeat most) I don't think have ever tried it. They hate it for other reasons and if you read their comments you'll probably be able to figure it out. Those how love it, LOVE it. I'd focus on what they say and why. I'm close to hitting my 1 year…
  • I CrossFit at 6am each morning, which means getting up a 5am to get ready, so at that time I'm not interested in eating much. My current regiment is to just drink a protein shake right when I wake up. I take a pre-workout right before I leave for the box and I'm good to go. Since this is what I've gotten used to, even if I…
  • CrossFit is not for everyone, but it's for a lot of people. I've been doing CF for almost a year, prior to that I did my own thing in the gym. My wife just started a few months ago, after not really getting why I was so into it, and she's now a bigger addict than I am. You'll love CrossFit if you - * Don't like doing the…
  • Are you doing full body workouts or splits? How many days a week are you looking to work out? Generically, rest and light activity will help. Take at least a day off from working out, maybe two if you are really sore, then get back to it. On your rest day, if you can manage, for sore legs I'd do some walking and if you can…
  • I'm with you. Many doctors act like they had not practice or livelihood whatsoever before CrossFit came around. Not. I think all they can really say is close to 100% of the injured CrossFitters they see got injured doing CrossFit. At the same time, the same can be said for Tennis, Gold, Bowling, Soccer, Football, or any…
  • This. Sometimes the answer is to just eat a bit more. Eating 1,200 calories and exercising isn't really getting 1,200 calories. You have to subtract off whatever you're burning through exercise to come up with your Net Calories. It's your Net Calories that should never be under 1,200 (for most people a good bit higher…
  • Check out my profile, and if you think there's a fit, feel free to FR me. Avid CrossFitter here. Just add some type of note, otherwise I'm liable to decline the request.

  • You'll lose weight doing CrossFit if your diet is good. Crossfit won't make up for poor eating, though the damage won't be as noticeable. Are you really asking how people are losing weight, or how they are doing at losing weight while doing Crossfit.
  • My go-to is Optimum Nutrition Platinum Pre. I've been using it for close to 2 years now. I usually take 1 scoop but will bump up to 2 before workouts I know will be intense. I do rotate in Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Pre-workout. It's not bad, but it doesn't have everything that Pre has, and also throws in creatine -…
  • Not sure if you really mean just vitamins, or supplements. To the later - Multi-Vitamin Fish Oil Creatine ZMA - at night before bed, results were immediate - deeper sleep with less tossing and turning I do take a pre-workout and also supplement protein intake with Whey Protein.
  • CrossFit - check 5x a week - check 80-90% Paleo - check Tattoo - check ;) FR sent. Feel free to check out my profile first if you want. Love adding new CF friends.
  • Well said. Crossfit and training to compete at Crossfit are two entirely different things. Nothing wrong with the later, but as Kelly said, it's much different than the former. If you want a behind the scenes look at CrossFit competition, CrossFit just put out a series called Behind The Scenes: '15 Games. You can find it…
  • Here's another great article, that I think was pretty fair, from t-Nation on one bodybuilder's experience with CrossFit - https://t-nation.com/training/bodybuilder-goes-crossfit
  • In the early days, as I understand it, small pockets of the military, and law enforcement and fire service, really got behind CrossFit. At the time, Glassman was posting workouts on his website that people could do for free, then post their results. Because of the dramatic performance improvements seen in all these…
