  • Have you thought about ulcerative colitis? I have it and pregnancy was the trigger for me. I hope you don't but a lot of the symptoms you mentioned sounded awfully familiar.
  • Wobble board all the way!
  • 20. Was 18 but holidays!
  • Thanks everyone- I went for the eat whatever I want approach! I have young kids and no family nearby so it's not often we can afford a meal out plus babysitting! In the end I chose the calameretti fritti, linguine al profumo di mare and hazelnut semifreddo for dessert. I also had a small cappuccino and half a pint of nice…
  • I'd disagree. I've always done HUGE amounts of exercise whether I've been a size 8 or a size 18. The difference in size for me has largely been due to eating way too much and drinking way too much alcohol. I also have a medical condition and have to take steroids but mostly it was the food and booze. Not the laziness.
  • Performance based. I'm doing a lot of hiking at the moment carrying my kids and up the distance as often as I can. Working up to 30kms per hike (27kms last week).
  • Thanks everybody. I do chew gum which helps some. I think it's made worse because I have twin toddlers who have dinner around 5 so I'm prepping food for them and serving it to them. Thankfully they have pretty good appetites so there's not much left to pick from but I can't walk out of the kitchen or do something that…
  • Because I find it very hard already dishing out his portions and then nearly halving that for mine. Portion creep is a constant issue for me.

  • In the UK we have Options, which is a hot chocolate for 40 calories a cup and it's pretty tasty! I usually have one in the evening after dinner to get rid of my cravings. Otherwise, yep it's tea for me too I'm afraid! There's always hot ribena but I'm not sure what the sugar and calories would be like in that as I haven't…

  • Started at 265, just starting to get comments now at 40+lbs lost.
  • A little for me. Not a lot though. The difference between my highest and lowest adult weights is around 125lbs and my calves lost about 1.5" each between those weights. I have always been muscular though and have historically done a lot of weightlifting so that may be why. All the other women in my family have skinny…

  • Oh, I'd also say- even 70lbs doesn't make that much of a difference over short flat walks. It's just that it really adds up if I'm doing a proper training hike of 3 hours + over rough terrain because it really ramps up my heart rate in a way that it doesn't if I'm just hiking with a small backpack.
  • Defo get a good carrier to save your arms! My two are pretty average sized nearly two year olds and carrying them in just my arms for more than 10 minutes at a time kills me! I have an Ergobaby 360 and a Macpac for the back or when I'm hiking with two. I'd recommend either- also heard good things about the Bjorn.
  • I suspect that was a thread I started! I would add that I am training for a walking marathon and therefore both log my exercise and also add in the fact that it is hiking carrying a 70lb load (I have twin toddlers). It may not seem like a lot and an awful lot of people look down their noses at people who walk for exercise…
  • I've been hiking since the weather got better (in the UK so probably about a month ago) so not that long. Prior to that I was doing a lot of pram pushing in bad weather and treadmill interval training so still getting good burns but nowhere near what I am now. My hikes have gradually got longer over the past couple of…
  • Thank you- that's massively helpful! I am trying to lose 2lbs a week so I'll have a think about what you've said and tweak accordingly. It's definitely the day after a big burn that I feel most hungry rather than the day of, which is a little annoying!
  • I don't think it's muscle gain either. I am still losing weight it's just that it basically seems to make no difference if I exercise or not and given the high calorie burns I've been achieving, that seems odd.

  • Alcohol for me. I'm not great with stopping at one glass so it's easier not to. I will drink again at some point in the future but at the moment whilst I'm actively losing alcohol and weight loss don't mix for me.
  • Normally I would say no and I think you'd find a lot of people saying there's no way. However, if you have a lot of weight to lose then losing above the general upper limit of 2lbs per week is both doable and sustainable. If you're starting north of 350lbs (I can't see any pics so just a guess based on the amount you want…
  • I know- it's just the specificity of the non-linear behaviour of the weight loss that bugs me I guess! It drops nicely down to around stone plus 4 then plays silly buggers for 3/4 weeks then carries on. J know what to expect it's just frustrating sometimes!
  • I'd bet that I'm a lot bigger than you with a much bigger mum tum (I had twins) but mine has reduced significantly as I've lost weight. I have a loooong way still to go (65lbs+) and I'm not sure how taut my stomach will look at the end as my abs were completely separated but it definitely looks a lot smaller. I'd say…
  • I agree- water retention from new/increased exercise is likely to be the culprit. It'll come off soon!
  • Thank you! I was wondering as my shoulders, knees, arms and central back are pretty achey and sore today so I couldn't help but wonder why the scale wasn't budging. Despite last night's cheat meal (my regular Saturday night event) I'm hoping for some decent losses over the next couple of days- you've given me hope!
