DOMS and weight loss?

Hi everybody!
Quick question- I do a lot of hiking with my toddlers on me (one or both) and often find that despite pretty high calorie burns (I have a HRM so they're reasonably accurate), and eating back only a small portion of my exercise calories, my weight loss is often slower on those days than on days when I do a lot less. I think this might be to do with DOMS as my muscles at definitely sore over the next couple of days. Can anyone shed any light on this?
ETA: any way to shift the water retention or do I just have to wait it out? If so, how long should I expect it to last?

Yep. Your muscles are retaining water so you weigh more when you have DOMS0

Wait it out. 2 or 3 days later you'll wear a path in the floor to the toilet, and then you'll be fine again.0

It's perfectly normal for your weight to fluctuate daily. What you want to do is look at your overall trend. If seeing the daily fluctuations bothers you, weigh yourself less often, like once a week or even monthly.0

Dumb question-what does DOMS stand for?
Because this thread is certainly not what I thought it was about lol.0 -
Oh sorry for the confusion! Thanks all- I do use a trendweight app so not too concerned about fluctuations just curious. Just come off the back of three days of hiking 10 miles a day carrying 65lbs of weight and not dropped a sausage so was wondering!0

i personally weigh myself once a week, on sunday mornings because i workout sunday, tuesday, thursdays in the evening. This means that i haven't worked out for 2 consecutive days (since thursday night).
Otherwise as you said, it wont show diddly squat for my weight loss when i'm sore/after a workout. And the difference i've found is sometimes as much as 3-5 pounds!0 -

Thank you! I was wondering as my shoulders, knees, arms and central back are pretty achey and sore today so I couldn't help but wonder why the scale wasn't budging. Despite last night's cheat meal (my regular Saturday night event) I'm hoping for some decent losses over the next couple of days- you've given me hope!
