All of your gyms are so nice. Professional looking. Mine is just a hodge-podge of stuff in our basement. One of my goals for 2016 is to get a rack to put all of our dumbbells and kettlebells on. They currently sit on the floor. @cruisin_scrapper --YES!!! What you describe is EXACTLY why I love working out at home. I love…

I have a basement gym, and I am completely in love with it. We've have slowly added stuff over the years once piece at a time. I use the basics that we have-rack, bench, bar, plates, a few kbs and dbs. I recently added in some mobility drills that utilize bands and have been using those, as well as boxes my husband built…

I don't post in the forums much, but saw this and thought I'd offer my 2 cents. Like everyone has already said, failure and deloading is part of the process. It is how we grow with lifting. Learning how to emotionally handle failure will allow you to come back with a positive attitude after extended time off due to life's…

My favorite is Labrada lean body for her by Jamie Eason in vanilla ice cream. I can mix with water, almond milk, add fruit, peanut butter, cocoa powder, and it works really well. Actually, I like all Labrada products-powder, rtd, and bars/cookies. I usually order it from bodybuilding.com but I think vitacost may also have…

Congrats on the black belt. Very impressive!

Hi old friends and new faces! I'm baaaaack (to posting my workouts). Today was squats. 65x10x10. Talk about cardio. Still trying to figure out my weights for GVT. I originally intended to follow the program for 6 weeks, but now think I'm going to follow it for 8. I can use the first 2 weeks to figure out what weights to…

Hi there. Congrats on your baby! I'm nursing too. My baby just turned 3 months old. How old is your baby? You don't want to create too big of a deficit in general, since it is not sustainable over the long-term. Slow and steady loss allows you to create lifestyle changes that will ensure you can keep off the weight you do…

You said that you want to lose about 22lbs. Since you are aiming to lose less than 25lbs, you should set your goal to be to lose .5lb/week. You said that you are struggling-so further deprivation is only going to make you struggle more. Losing at a slower rate has been proved to be more sustainable.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. Very helpful.

Been on MFP for almost a year. Found out I was expecting 9/14 and had my baby in 4/15. Trying to walk as much as possible. Just got Charge HR 3 days ago. Looking to add friends to motivate each other. www.fitbit.com/user/3L3R4H

I would march all around my house just to get a little warm (early am workouts), then do dynamic stretching and some of the moves from agile 8--particularly the hydrant hip circles help me with mobility. Then a few warm up sets, then workout. I had gotten into the habit of really stretching and foam rolling afterwards and…

@mimi337-- I agree with everything crabada said, except--you are 50 yrs old and 5'2". You need to lift for your bones. Osteoporosis is more prevalent in petite women. You don't have to do 5x5, but need to make sure you have a strength component in your fitness regime. Osteoporosis is something I'm seeing my mother deal…

Congrats!!! Each pregnancy is different, so I would advise speaking with your doctor before making a decision. My experience: I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant. I was doing strong lifts and had been progressing well; only stall was on OHP at 70lbs. After speaking with my Dr (who is also a woman who lifts), I was advised to…

^^^Agree with getting the entire Wendler's books! My hubby has them (and other books of programs based on 5,3,1) and he is constantly doing different adaptations based upon his current training needs. I looked over one of the books while doing 5x5 to try to better understand it, and it was a bit overwhelming to me at that…

I agree with crabada, you are retaining water because of beginning strength training. One month isn't really enough time to gauge your progress. It is only 12 5x5 workouts. If your TDEE is truly 1484 and that is the amount of the calories that you are consuming, then mathematically you would NOT have any loss on either the…

I was doing 5x5 and added in some of the moves from SCs. My original plan was to do 5x5 for at least 6 months then switch to Wendler's 5,3,1 so I could lift with my hubby. But then I found out I was carrying a bodysnatcher and had to stop lifting alltogether. After this baby gets out and I get the Dr's approval, I'm going…

^^^I agree.

Ugh--I completely understand. I decided to pursue my J.D. and M.A. simultaneously. I had one semester where I was clerking, writing my thesis, and had law classes in the evenings. I'm a super-routine, schedule-driven person. I also happen to be an early morning person, so what worked for me may not work for you (if I'm…

It will feel awkward at first, since you are moving your body in a different way. I'm sure that most people would feel awkward speeding around a track on roller skates! I've even heard of long-time lifters feeling awkward after taking time off. Your body needs to find its groove, so to speak. As you become more aware of…

Yoga squat pose--where your feet are pointed to the sides, you squat down low keeping your back straight, and use your elbows to gently press your thighs outward. Great for increasing flexibility, and getting you to feel your knees pushing put. If you find your upper body falls forward while squatting, you can also do this…

Thanks! Lifting will get you to where you want to be, for sure! Your bicep looks fantastic--imagine the changes you will see one year from now! I was sad that I had to stop lifting due to some complications early on, but now I'm taking advantage of the break and exploring other hobbies/interests. This break (and reading…

I hate gyms. In the past, everytime I went to one for a few days, I ALWAYS ended up sick. I'm also not a group-oriented person, and hate crowds. So, I was never consistent with exercise when I went to a gym. We've slowly put together a nice home set up over the past few years. I beyond love it! We have a power rack,…

Those plyo mats are terrible! At least you tried, caterpillar style! I don't know if you have the store "Five Below" where you are, but they have nice yoga mats for $5. I just bought one for my hubby from there. He recently added in yoga to help with his flexibility, but since he wants "manly yoga," he bought DDP Yoga.…

Thanks! My goals are to make more nutritious food choices and I am back to logging. I've fallen into the pregnancy trap of "I deserve donutsssss, AND pizza, AND chips." Indulging in moderation is understandable, but I've been going hog-wild and completely disregarding proper nutrition. I stopped logging because I was…

Even though I'm not currently lifting-boo :( , would it be ok if I post my goals here for December?

I have 2 greyhounds and live on a 1 acre fenced property. I live in rural PA and there are tons of wild rabbits around our home. They catch and kill wild rabbits weekly. We do not eat them; we take them back to the woods on a shovel and let the other animals eat them. Although I did grow up eating wild rabbits my…

We used to have a recipe thread, but I'll post this here. I made this last night, http://www.skinnytaste.com/2010/09/low-fat-baked-ziti-with-spinach.html I added Italian chicken sausage to it. It was delicious! Based on the ingredients I used, it made 8, 400 calorie servings. (And they were actually decent-sized servings).

I must look for this--I prefer Oikos over any other brand. I did not like the Chobani pumkin one.

^^Computer zapped out before I finished. It may seem easy right now, but really focus on your form (what you said want to work on). The weights get heavy really quickly--you are adding 5lbs to squat, bench, row, ohp and 10 to dls EACH workout. That really adds up fast. Take the time now when it feels easy to work out any…
