  • OMG! I had a man that I work with tell me that the key to getting in shape was to lift light weights with high reps and that I should stop lifting heavy because eventually I will tear a bicep or something. I told him that I could deadlift his bodyweight and to have fun with his light weights.
  • The book New Rules of Lifting for Women is a great place to get a program and guidelines for lifting. I find the same thing as you and I work at a gym. I am uncomfortable in the weight room especially it is crowded. I started doing CrossFit and love it and am amazed at how heavy I can go. I feel totaly comfortable doing it…
  • Just do hot Yoga you might get the same effect and then when you drink all the water back that you lost, you will be right back where you started.
  • Reading this thread has been interesting and has given me something to do to pass the afternoon away at work. I did want to add one thing. Weight loss happens by a caloric deficit and that is a fact. Eating and overeating are different for different people and for those of us who struggle with it, it is an emotional issue.…
  • I would say I am on the verge of being obsessed, but I guess it is addicting like any other sport you might get into. Like I said in my post, haters need not reply =)
  • My good friend almost died from the lap band, so thank goodness you did not qualify. You can do it with exercise and eating right. Welcome!
  • I was going to say the same thing. It sounds like more of an issue with you and your wife. I think you should take a financial class together, like the Dave Ramsey one mentioned earlier or others offered and it might help for you to come to an agreement somewhere in the middle.
  • I have been a group fitness instructor for 13 years and I started by finding a couple of experienced instructors who let me gradually learn how to teach by doing small portions of their classes. Teaching group fitness is different from personal training because it involves counting beats in music, proper cueing and then of…
  • You look great in them all, but I love the tankini the most or the pink one!
  • You will get much more dramatic results if you follow the nutrition guide. You don't necessarily have to eat the exact meals in the guide, just adjust your macros in MFP to match what it recommends in each phase of the diet. I am not sure how much you want to lose, but one thing that you could do is pick a pair of pants…
  • I would take a deeper look at your actual budget and spending for a month and see if food is really the area you need to cut back on. You might be surprised at what you discover. I just printed out my May bank statement and used the following system of highlighting from Dani Johnson and found I had a lot of unnecessary…
  • I know someone who did this and she ended up in the ICU because her organs shut down. Don't do it, just eat whole healthy foods and drink water.
  • I am sure you can get a free meal plan online to get you started. Some people need to learn how to cook and how to introduce new foods into their diet before they can really get started. I like the food plan that comes with Jamie Eason's Free training program on bodybuilding.com. there are a variety of others on their as…
  • Wow! That is a tough situation, but I have been in it and it can get better. My husband was the same way, everytime I would be on a "diet" he would complain that I only buy food for me and nothing good for him and the kids. Now that I have transitioned from dieting to eating healthy as a lifestyle choice it is creeping its…
  • Skinny Girl Margaritas are very good and no artificial sweeteners. I buy it when I am feeling in need and enjoy a glass or two. I believe if you go to the website, there is a recipe for making your own as well.
  • Apparently Beyonce did the maple syrup diet as well. I think I will refrain from taking dieting advice from Beyonce. I met a lady who did the maple syrup diet for 15 days, lost 31 pounds and ended up in the ICU due to her organs beginning to shut down.
  • I agree with this. We belong to a more expensive gym that has junior fitness, so while I am working out my kids are working out and they love it. I feel guilty going after working all day, but in the long run it is the only way I can get my workout in sometimes and my kids will appreciate having a healthy mom. I would…
  • Wow! It sure is easy to pass judgement on other parents when you have never walked in their shoes. I am sure there is a lot more to this story than any of us know. I am teacher and a parent of a child with special needs. This child might have some type of disorder like Autism, aspergers etc. and cannot control her actions…
  • Either one depending on how heavy you lift during the circuits. CrossFit is a form of circuit training, but you use heavy weights and move fast. I would go with what you like or mix it up.
  • I just cooked a bag of frozen chicken breasts with one jar of salsa and one can of black beans in the crockpot and now have 3 lunches and one dinner for the week. It is really tasty and super easy.
  • I would stick with the closer to 1600 or 1700, like MFP says. The other might be overestimating how much you are actually burning with exercise.
  • An easy formula that I have seen is take your goal weight times 10 and it will give you a good number. It actually matched MFP when I add my exercise in.
  • Take your weight X .66 and it will give you your body's daily requirement. I aim for about 130 oz. or more a day.
  • There is a book I recently read called Potatoes not Prozac that you might want to read. My son has Asperpergers and ADHD which causes a lot of anxiety and sometimes depression. He is on a special diet of high protein, low carbs, low sugar and lots of vitamin C, Omega 3's and healthy fats. We also elminated gluten. We all…
  • I don't really recommend the recovery formula to women who are trying to lose weight or if they do use it to only do half a serving. You could eat a piece of fruit right after with some protein and be fine. The bars are pretty high in calories and sugar as well so you could definitely substitute with regular food. I buy…
  • http://youtu.be/WPfbXMW1vGQ Here is a really funny video on weight room and gym etiquette. It is mainly a joke, but has some good points.
  • Prepping and chopping! I agree with all the above posters it really comes down to your diet. i have great abs as well under my layer of fat I am trying to get rid.
  • I agree with other posters that I am sure no reputable medical site would post that. I'm not saying that it is wrong, but it looks like some person's recommendation. I do limit my carb intake because I have insulin issues and my body reacts differently to sugar and carbs than in someone else. You might lose weight faster…
  • I would say squats and burpees would be number 2, turkish get ups are pretty high on my list as well.
