Hi and congrats! I went through a pregnancy recently while overweight and only gained about 7 lb (all of it at the end; my baby weighed almost 8 lb so it wasn't fat, it was baby + fluid + placenta.) I've since lost almost 40 lb and am at the weight I was in high school. Feel free to add me!

There is literally no medication on earth that will make you gain weight if you're still eating less than you're burning. Medications can make you retain water weight, or increase your appetite/decrease your energy, but you need to adjust accordingly.

You're eating too many carbs throughout the day. High-fat foods and high-fiber foods keep you fuller for longer. Low-fat and nonfat options are not good for you and are often filled with extra sugar. They make no difference calorie-wise; choosing a full-fat option will keep you full.

Seconding Snuggle Smacks. The "quality" of food matters less than the quantity. You can lose weight eating ramen, pizza, and candy if you count your calories and stay at a deficit. You can gain weight drinking fruit juice and eating whole grains if you eat too many calories. Just "eating healthy" will not result in weight…

Cut your carbs waaaay down and don't eat breakfast. I swear by those two things. Carbs will crash your blood sugar and leave you hungrier than ever a couple hours later. Load up on fat. An avocado with an egg in it is a great meal and will keep you fuller than any carb-laden crap. Also, If I delay my first meal til noon or…

I had pretty bad fatlogic. I told myself my health was good (it was, but I'm in my mid-20s, so it wouldn't have been for long) and that BMI was *kitten* (it isn't; it's a good thumbnail sketch) and that I just couldn't get back down to the weight I was in high school because 190lb was my "set point." ("Set points" are…

I'm sorta losing baby weight! I have a 4-month-old son and I only put on 7 lb with him and I've lost all of that and then some, but I'm determined to get back down to my high school weight. Add me if you'd like! I need to lose another 20 lb or so.

Thinking like this is what destroys people's weight loss efforts. One day of going over your calorie limit by a couple hundred is NOT going to turn you obese overnight. You didn't put on the weight thanks to one meal; one meal is not going to ruin you. A deficit of 300 calories didn't move the scale down, so why would it…

Started at 215, down 32, want to be 160. I'll be in a healthy BMI range at 164 but I want to lose more than that. At 160 I may decide to go down to 150 or so. We'll see. I've slowed down lately and it's frustrating, so I'm reevaluating everything.

"Starvation mode" is a complete myth. There is no such thing as eating too little = gaining weight. Eating 1000 calories a day (I do not recommend it because you will feel exhausted and blah) is going to make you lose a ton of weight. Period.

I am a circulation desk librarian. I work evenings in the library of my alma mater. I'm also a mummy to a 3.5-month-old little boy!

High fat, moderate protein, low carbs.

No. It's realistic. People are fat. It is a description.
