  • Got two really nice batches of Kombucha... But, then got mold on the scovy. I ordered a new scovy. I think I know what my two mistakes were. You have to use more of the previous batch to "start" and speed the fermentation of subsequent batches. If you don't get the tea acidic enough, quickly enough, it is a fertile medium…
  • After one week: The Kombucha has developed a new "daughter" on the surface and things are bubbling along really nicely. Once the daughter is about 1/4 to 3/8 inches thick I am going to start the new batch and sample this one... The Kimchi is finished and I had my first serving this morning. Maybe too gingery... Next batch…
  • I worried about wierd bacterial growths initially when I started making kefir... One of the amazing things about these traditional probiotic cultures is their natural talent to inhibit the growth (or even eradication) of competing bacteria and yeasts. They pretty much do the same thing in the fermenting container that they…
  • I got my kombucha mother yesterday and today I started my first batch made with green tea. I will give you an update as things progress. So far seems pretty straightfoward and simple. I also started my first kimchi ferment today. Again, seems very simple and OMG does it smell good!
  • At the risk of sounding ignorant, what are GT's?
  • Thanks for the offer. I finally broke down and ordered one from someone in Illinois on Amazon. I collected kefir grains from several differant sources to develop the happy kefir family that I have. Do you know if there are "regional" or any other unique differances between one kombucha mother to another?
  • Have you made eggs in a microwave yet? They come out fluffy and moist. Try this: One Put two or three slices of lean ham and a chunk or slice of cheese on a English muffin or sandwich thin. Put that in a toaster oven so that it starts heating and getting toasty. Two Crack two eggs into a 4-6" pyrex or other microwave dish.…
  • I use the Polar FT1. Basic... Reliable.
  • I use the MotionTrax podcast. Lots and lots of great exercise "mixes"!
  • I weigh in on my Wii every morning before I eat anything. It sets the tone for the rest of the day.
  • I will say this... Even though I ALWAYS exceed my sugar goal. The fact that it is soooooo stringent keeps me hyper-aware of the sugar content of the foods I eat. That must be a good thing.
  • Kefir is easy to make. I have two cultures going in my fridge at home all of the time. I even have one in a fridge in my office at work. It keeps my digestion working perfectly. If you make it with skim milk, it is a perfect source of calcium, protein, and healthy digestive flora. Does anyone else make their own?
  • Coffee Banana Oatmeal with raisins, pecans, and kefir
  • Steel Cut Oats with ground flax seed, crushed pecans, raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla Greek yogurt. It is like eating dessert for breakfast!
