It is certainly different for everybody. For some of us total elimination becomes necessary. The single meal snack does work though. I also find that gradually reducing sugar intake (eg in drinks) over time, helps to control your sweet tooth. You will notice the transition after a while and no longer want stuff as sweet.…

Every habit that has ever been formed took some time and so when changes and adjustments are made to our food routine, they will take some time too. If you decide that you are completely eliminating some things from your lifestyle, they will eventually happen but it always starts with the mindset. You can do it. Good luck.

Try for a permanent cleanse. Lemon in warm water 1st thing in the morning and throughout the day ;) . and ...just eliminate the crappy food. I know its not always possible but follow the routine.

As other have said, take baby steps and eliminate processed sugar foods one by one. First priority, "Don't have them in the house" 2. It is advisable that you do not go overboard when you resume eating. I generally have something warm/hot first then a meal after.
