  • Good luck, enjoy it, drink lots of water, do some extra exercise tomorrow/today. One think I've learnt on my journey is: I used to go to events like dinner with friends, or birthday parties, and think I had to eat what everyone else was or they would notice/question me/think I was being rude. I have learnt that 1) no one…

  • Oh I just thought of another one! First proper date with a guy I'd know for awhile. Went great, bought him home. Went into my flat, I went to fix us drinks. Then I hear him talking to someone in my (I thought) empty lounge. I go in to see what is going on, to find my ex-boyfriend, who had smashed a window and climbed into…
  • Went on a date with a guy I didn't know at all, ordered dinner, he asked if I was vegetarian, I said yes, I don't really believe in killing things. Then I asked what he did, and he told me he was a military sniper. Sigh.
  • You absolutely ARE beautiful. What a great achievement so far. And it seems like much more than just the weight! Keep going :)
  • I had a small problem with overeating for some time. Eating when I wasn't hungry - or even when I was really full. Often feeling like being hungry was the worst feeling and as soon as I had any niggle eating food asap. I was actually scared of being hungry. I worked out this was from getting horrific migraines when I was a…
  • It totally doesn't matter, calories in vs calories out, when you burn the calories out (or consume the calories in for that matter) makes no difference. I work out after work. Like you I'm not a morning person and the added pain of having to get up early to exercise was just stupid for me - so I don't :) What kind of…
  • Woot! Great job, looking good!
  • This post reminded me of one of my favourite quotes which is "Being strong feels exactly the same as being weak, the only difference is you don't quit". I think this helped me find my motivation and commitment to keep going. When I realized nothing was coming to save me, it wasn't suddenly going to be easy one day. It was…
  • I call myself a vegetarian to make it easier for my friends and family. So that they are clear I probably won't eat meat. But I do sometimes eat it with my husband, cause I'm a grown up and can do what I want. I found it's way more about other people being able to feel like they can classify you than anything else. We live…
  • Two things this week 1) I wore a skirt that I love and the last few times I've worn it I've had to unbutton it at the top by the end of the day cause it was making me feel sick. Not this week! And 2) just used my skulpt to measure bf % and I'm down 4% since I last measure at end of April :D
  • I don't think it really applies in this situation (cause one pound either way ain't a huge deal) but if you are interested in self-sabotage there is an excellent book called Thinking Fast and Slow about different brain systems; your rational human brain vs your instinctive, limbic or reptilian brain. Your rational brain is…
  • How long have you been eating a deficit for? I wouldn't panic about 2 weeks no loss, a month maybe. You need to be in a deficit to lose weight, so going up to you maintenance cals won't help with that. What is your current macro breakdown (% Protein, Fat, Carbs)? Are you doing any weight training? Also just saying, most…
  • Ooo - im going to have to check this app out, I am constantly messing up my rest intervals! I found a sheet online that I turned into a google doc - here is my copy, you can delete my info and enter yours and it will work. The first month workouts A and B are on tabs right at the back now…
  • Hi helpful people - more stage 1 questions for you! I am now a month or so in, I'm finding I am able to increase the weights of my big lifts a lot - my Squat and DL started at 30kg (hehe) and now are 45/50kg. But I am not able to increase the weights of my other lifts (step ups, rows etc) at the same kind of rate. I'm…

  • Research has shown that willpower is a finite resource, that depletes as we make choices and use it, so by the end of a day of making good strong choices it can feel a lot harder to resist temptations. Implement some rules (like brushing teeth when you finish eating), save some cals, distract yourself - I used to paint my…
  • Yeah I am hopeful it is just water. I haven't felt hungry and am still eating the same cals (but it is possible I stretched them) I need to focus on accurate logging give it a month and hopefully see some movement :)
  • Hi there, welcome - my macros are set at 40% carbs / 30% Protein / 30% Fat. This is a pretty good rule of thumb for most people to gain muscle, for satiety etc.

  • Are you losing weight? If so eat a bit more, see if you still lose weight - you dont have to be starving to be losing weight. MFP set my cals to 1200, I moved them to 1600 and I still lose weight and I'm way happier and able to maintain eating here
  • If you've put on 10 pounds in a week really you'd have to have eaten an extra 35,000 cals, or 5,000 cals per day. Which you definitely would have noticed! Have you change your diet drastically (other than cals), eating anything new or weird? Could your scales be broken? Drink lots of water for a few days to de-fluid and…
  • I am not a regular drinker, but if I am out for the night I stick to vodka, fresh lime and soda, people think they are boring but I actually like them and choose to drink them anyway. Refreshing, never get too sickly sweet, and limited hangover. If I'm out to dinner a nice glass of red is my go to. My main issue when I do…
  • Wall and counter tops FTW. I started here, not being able to do one pushup either, and now I can do 10 full proper pushups - you can do it!
  • Thanks that is really helpful. I think really I am aiming for recomp so I will just be patient and keep persevering with around maintenance eating for longer.
  • What has everyone got their cals at for Stage 1? I believe my full maintenance allowance is 2,100 I would like to lose some weight / fat though which I understand you can only do in deficit so I've set my cals to 1600 gross, knowing from past logging I normally don't measure completely accurately so really I'll be more…
  • I was just thinking about the same thing, I lifted yesterday, today I'm 2 pounds heavier. Obviously can't have put 2 pounds on over night so assumed it was water. Drinking plenty today! On your chart are the bigger spikes in weight the day after lifting or anything consistent like that?
  • Really glad I managed to lift today (locked my car at work last night so had a public transport nightmare today that almost thwarted me). Had a hilarious moment when a gym instructor came running over to check if I needed his help when he saw me putting weights on the bar in the squat rack. The look on his face when I told…
  • Hi, I'm Jess. I'm 28, from New Zealand and currently embarking on the NROLFW Stage 1. I was on MFP a few years ago and lost a lot of weight, mostly through cardio and drastic calorie deficits. I ended up starving hungry, mad and ultimately it was unsustainable for me to live like that. I've put most of the weight back on…
  • Protein and Fat will definitely help keep you full for longer. And you shouldn't be scared to eat your exercise calories, if you are logging perfectly you should be able to eat them all - I understand the desire for some buffer though but definitely eat most of them! Question - are you losing weight? If so then try eating…
  • 1600 normally - 1900 on excercise days. My bmr = around 1250 x 1.6 for non excercise, 1.8 for excercise days. Minus 20% :)
  • That is tough - when you are a in funk because of your mind more than the actual reality of your body (you look gorgeous!). My only advice is this, make a commitment to get up tomorrow and dress nice. Do one exercise - even if it is just a short walk in the evening, but get out the door and do it. And try and eat a serve…
