Yes, my girlfriend has the same reaction. We figured it out - for her it is the high fructose corn syrup. She can drink (many) sodas with real sugar, but give her one with HFCS and off to the restroom she goes....literally.

I've been reading The Low Carb Revolution by John McLean. It is an e-book on Amazon. In the beginning the author seems to repeat himself a lot, but the information he provides is pretty easy to understand. I would definitely recommend it.

You could try interval training. You will burn more calories, have a longer after workout burn (calories), and, it will get you to raise your heart to a more beneficial rate. Interval training would look something like this, but you could probably find other combos on the web: RUN for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds, RUN…

I used to take PTU before I had to have my thyroid totally removed. I'm pretty certain it damaged my liver. I absolutely hated it. The weight gain, the distended feeling all the time. And, it did nothing for my TSH levels. Once I had my surgery it took about 8 months for my distention to alleviate. I have met several…

I'd like to try this - I'm in for 40

Hi! Yes, I do know what you are talking about. I was diagnosed with Grave's disease in 2008. I started a blog (not self-promoting, just didn't want to bore you with all the details of it all here - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/stacywx2), if you're interested. I had every symptom except 2 - the swollen calves and one…

I spoke of black beans because the carbs were a little less than the protein, and are excellent source of fiber. As for vegetables, most are are very low in carbs. Potatoes, peas, and parsnip are the exceptions.

Hmmm, if you're taking Synthroid, the high fiber may be interfering with your meds - it did with me. You may be also retaining water even though you are drinking 8 glasses a day. 8 glasses a day is for the average person. If you are working out more, you need more water, otherwise, your body goes into survival mode.

Veggies, beans....black beans are good...

I had heard th-s, too, but, oddly enough, I got my daily from Jillian regarding calories. I used the formula I found there and subtracted the 200. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe my results were different, but you might want to verify. I am currently using the number I got from Jillian's website. I also changed…

I love almond milk, not so much for taste, but also because it has lower sugars than cow's milk. I really can't use almond milk first thing in the morning because the calcium content is that of milk, which interferes with my Synthroid. I used to eat oatmeal every morning, instead, not realizing the high fiber in oatmeal…

Yes, having a high cortisol level will make it difficult to lose weight. And yes, prolonged exercise does increase your levels of cortisol, because, well, you are stressing your body. That does not mean exercise is bad, but understanding how your body responds is very important. You can help your body decrease the cortisol…

It took almost 2 weeks for me. I just made sure I took my meds at the same time and with a FULL glass of water (at least 8 oz.). I also avoided calcium, iron, and high fibers (grains), too. I don't know if it will be the same for you. I have Graves disease and had to have my thyroid removed. So technically, I still have…

(Removed the double post - sorry)

Both my doctor and the Synthroid website say '4hours' for calcium and iron. Also, something to note, try to avoid high fiber foods. I did see a difference in my labs, weight, and started having hypo symptoms when I ate oatmeal every morning (usually about 3 1/2 hours after taking my meds). I don't know if you have to wait 4…
