  • In my experience, running before yoga is a great way to get your heart rate up and muscles warmed up before the stretching that comes in yoga. I love running, but it tightens you up, and yoga can be such a nice calming finish! Good luck and enjoy :)
  • I can relate to the 10 lbs and stopping problem... I've had plateaus several times during this process, but if you can keep to your monitoring of calories in and exercise, you WILL get past those first 10! In terms of exercise, you have to find something that works for you, but a 9-10 hr/day desk job is torture! So many…
  • That happened to me for a while when I was new to running. I'm not a doctor, nor have I consulted a doctor about it, but I've been there!
  • It's only required in NYC as far as I'm aware. I've been to upstate places that do not post these, but I agree that it's extremely helpful to stay on track when we are informed!
  • I didn't weigh myself for the first couple weeks.... once I started to feel good/notice a change is when I weighed myself. No matter what, that number can change my mood for the day, so I try to only weigh once per week, because that daily fluctuation is normal and maintaining long-term control is easier for me if I'm not…
  • Pepperidge Farm light style breads are good too... also 45 cal/slice and they have a few different varieties.

  • While soy and almond milk have fewer calories than cow's milk, they have MUCH less protein. Personally, I don't get enough protein in my diet, so keeping the extra calories in the protein rich milk works for me. I have also heard mixed reviews on soy in large amounts. Moderation, I suppose.
  • I need some ideas, too. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat much meat and have a hard time reaching my protein goal for the day... especially on heavy exercise days.
  • I'm interested to hear the responses. Personally, I warm up with a fast walk... anywhere between 5-10 minutes, and then I generally have a cool down walk... same amount of time
  • thanks, again!
  • the calories you have for the rest of the day... as a result of you settings and exercise
  • The best thing is to find what works for you. I still think about food a lot, but in a more controlled way... through keeping track on this site, I find my desire to eat is slightly curbed by having to post it in my diary and see how much I've consumed! Also, look for lower cal alternatives. Things as simple as switching…
  • I'd like to know too... I don't eat much meat and find I'm always lacking in my protein.
  • That sounds great! Thanks for the info!
  • thewarrenfarm.com Warren Farms had a stand at my local farmer's market and I was looking at the jams because they actually had nutrition facts on them! I asked how he figured it out and he told me they have a machine that calculates the ingredients and the amounts in each jar and determines the labels. The regular jams…
  • Go with the "tomorrow is a new day" mantra and not tell yourself to just start over next week. You can do it! Drink some more water this evening and start fresh tomorrow. Everybody has those crazy days, but you'll feel great getting back into your healthy pattern tonight/tomorrow!
  • The way I see it, we NEED to shock our systems now and again. I've been in an obnoxious plateau for a long time now, but oddly enough, I see changes when I've upped my calories on some days. It wakes your metabolism up and then you surprise it again by eating your allotted calories the next few days. That's what makes…
  • I would love some suggestions, too! Preferably ones with higher protein counts?
  • Maybe plan on meals that can be kept as a leftover, as tomorrow's lunch or something...?
  • Weigh yourself in the morning, after the bathroom and before eating/drinking anything. That is the most consistent time to check. You're doing the right things, keep at it!
  • Try a few different kinds of exercise to see which one fits best! A good friend of mine has a similar problem and she just started Zumba classes and I've noticed a positive change in her mood with taking that class as opposed to doing the elliptical or something... Good luck, the key is finding that thing that is a good…
  • Yes, the type of foods make a big difference. You've omitted empty calories, which is great, but as others have posted, high fiber and protein foods are what help you feel full longer. I'm not hungry for hours when I have either of my breakfast options: 1 scrambled egg w/ sauteed spinach and 1/2 serving of carrots 1 piece…
  • I totally get the "keep the body guessing" idea, but how do you track it?? I have such a hard time not eating my exercise calories or going over on some days and seeing the negative amount in RED! The things I love about MFP, I hate at the same time! The numeric countdowns are great for the days I do exactly what it…
  • Well then, I hope you like rice! ;) I play cello... now I'm teaching in the school setting, but am still able to keep up with some quartet gigs and other random events. I love it, but I definitely miss being surrounded by it in undergrad! Enjoy your time!! What do you play/sing?
  • You sound like me! I was a music major too, btw. But in terms of our FDA and what is actually allowed in our grocery stores! It's upsetting, especially for those of us trying to be healthy and make good choices for our bodies, society, and environment. I'd love to hear how your Bali trip goes and about their culture with…
  • Congratulations!! :)
  • Hello and welcome (back!). Not being a nutritionist, please take my comments with a grain of salt, but all information I've read stresses that we must consume at least 1,200 calories per day. When you don't fuel your body adequately, your weight may drop initially, but like others have posted, your body goes into…

  • good for you for going with the simple frozen yogurt route! I don't believe their 250 cal claim because 1 scoop of the frozen yogurt is about 140 or so and I know she put in more than one! Plus the fruit juice and fruit... there is no way it's 250
  • I agree! My mom started drinking it as it was recommended to her to combat menopause symptoms, but I tried it and loved it! Great alternative!
