It is always better to have smaller more frequent meals. Insulin spikes inhibit your ability to burn fat whereas if you keep your body in a state of even-flow by smaller more frequent meals, you are actually helping your body metabolize body fat more efficiently.

The heavier you are the more (as a % of body fat) you can expect to lose each week if you are severely overweight. However, as a general rule it is not advisable to lose more than 2lbs per week to avoid your body using muscle for fuel and hence further reduce your metabolic rate. Right now I'm set to a 1000 calorie deficit…

You mentioned you are on a low calorie diet so it is definitely more important that you eat calories back. It has been my experience however that the MFP exercise calories tend to be on the high side when comparing it to those calories burned on my Fitbit. It is not recommended to lose more than 2 lbs per week (as much as…

I recently started after a 3 year hiatus which has now found me back to my former heavy self. I lost over 50 pounds the first time around and I will apply the same principles I've listed on my profile, only this time only I will continue to log once I reach my fitness goal to prevent sliding back. Starting up is really…

What she said sum it nicely. Your logging looks good, it is possible you could have a medical condition. If you continue to have a caloric deficit with no results, you might consult your physician.

Yeah, I lost over 50 lbs in 6 months on my first go with MFP. People were telling me I was too skinny and not having a maintenance plan, I resumed bad habits and here I am starting round two, older and heavier. I posted my slim pic in my profile.

You said you want to add some size but not gain weight. If you are eating your caloric equilibrium, it is unlikely you will gain any sizable muscle mass. Caloric surplus with the right foods coupled with proper training and rest.

Exercise I find that after I do some physical activity like cycling I feel better. Also means I get some extra calories to eat.
-
Me two! Round 2.
-
Feel free to add me :)
-
Congratulations! This gives me motivation.

During those times I have a low calorie chocolate mousse to ebb cravings. 100 cals per one cup serving. Seems to take the edge off and doesn't blow my daily calorie allowance out the window.

This is round two on MFP after having lost over 55 lbs in 2011. Went back to bad habits and gained it all back. Why this time? Because I'm going to do things differently when I reach my weight goal this time. It isn't a finish line, it's a beginning.

Thank you. Took me some time to find the setting on Fitbit but you were right! Thanks KWlosingit. Fitbit was set to deficit of 750 while MFP 1000. Corrected :)

Awesome article, thanks!

Unbelievable! :) Good job!

Awesome!

Eating Healthy. Sadly, it is cheaper to eat junk than whole foods. Side note worth watching 'Food Inc.' (Netflix)

If you starve your body, it will consume lean muscle (which burns calories) to feed your vital organs. Reducing lean muscle mass effectively reduces your metabolic expenditure. Slow and steady weight loss is ideal which is why MFP recommend no more than 2 pounds per week.

I can totally relate, though I'm in the midst of being restructured and considering going back to school. Thus begins the next chapter and the beginning of a new me. Wish I only had 25 pounds to lose. Having had success here in the past when I reached my goal I started revert to my old program and here I find myself,…

Did you know if you drink one can of pop at 160 calories x 365 days = 58,400 calories? That's over 16 pounds!

Back after a couple years off...old habits die hard and back to lose it again. Feel free to add me if you like. Congrats on your baby. I'm a new dad! My little girl is 6 weeks :)

BEEN THERE Using MFP I successfully got to a weight that I hadn't been since high school!! Lost over 45 lbs. People were telling me I was getting too skinny so I stopped. Problem is I had become so used to the routine and like you I always focused on the numbers. I didn't really have a plan on how to eat normally when I…

 Thanks so much Mike and thanks for your response! I LOVE this site. Good job.

Most have addictions to the scale as a measure of success however the scale is the worst measure of progress. Gaining muscle through exercise as well as water retention or other bodily functions all affect your weight. Best thing to do is use the scale once per week and record that weight and do the same every week. This…

Thanks for clarifying. I too was wondering what that meant.

First of all you are an inspiration to us on MFP and just because you gained eight pounds doesn't change that! You were one of the first friends I added when I joined and you have been an inspiration of what can be achieved when one puts their mind to something. You are a success story despite any bumps you've had in your…

Ditto!

Keep calories stay the same! A surplus of calories of any type more than your body uses for fuel will lead to weight gain. People doing Atkins sometimes don't realize that just because they are doing low carb, doesn't mean they can go over their caloric needs and eat a package of Bacon a day! Another caution: On Atkins,…
