  • At every 5K that I've done there are runners, joggers, walkers and everything in-between. Just get out there and keep running your build up miles! My guess is that if you even run half and walk half you'll finish somewhere in the middle.
  • I would love to train along side you. I am training for my 1st 1/2 marathon in June of 2013. I'm following a training program from the Runners World website. Not sure how the winter training will go since I live in Illinois but we'll see. I too am all ears for suggetsions and tips. I need to lose more than 35 pounds but…
  • I'm in too! :noway:
  • Are you running on the treadmill? I started out walking a song, running a song, etc. until I was running more than walking. Running outside? When I took it to the road a different story. I could run 45 minutes straight on the mill but hardly 1/4 mile outside. I just ran until I couldn't go any further. Did that a couple…
  • You look great!
  • I too have this problem with my 3rd & 4th toes on one foot. I asked my podiatrist about it while he was treating me for a heel spur and he said it was Morton's Neuroma. I think it's a knotted up nerve. Not much can be done other than cut the nerve and have those two toes numb all the time. I'm going to wait until it…
  • I've been using a Polar F11 for about 2 years and love mine.
  • Thanks again for all the advice...MFP'ers are the best!
  • Thanks to all who responded. I'm looking into orthotics now and I'm going to get some of those Heel Seats. Sounds like this is something I'm going to have to live with:( Thanks again to all of you, you're the best! Debbie
  • It sounds like shin splints to me. I get that every spring when I've been inside all winter. After about a week it usually goes away for me. Go to runnersworld.com, I believe they have an issue on there about shin splints and different exercises you can do before running to try to prevent that from happening. Don't give…
  • Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers! DeeDee, I think that's a great idea about the ticker...I might try that. Debbie
  • Welcome back Shanta! :flowerforyou:
  • I'm 46 and I'll tell you it's hard. I believe we have to work out harder and more often now that we're older. I lost 60 pounds over the last couple of years but this last 6 mos. has been especially hard on me. Not only can't I lose weight but I put 5 pounds back on. I log all my food and my exercise but it doesn't seem to…
  • Keep up the good work! Congrats!:flowerforyou:
  • Thanks for the tip. I went to the web site and it was a real motivator to keep going. I've been at the same weight now for about 6 months no matter what I do. Seeing myself 35 pounds lighter and at my goal weight has re-energized me to get back to work and get this weight off once and for all! Thanks so much...Debbie
  • I bought the Polar F11 a couple years ago and love mine. Depending on what exercises I'm doing MFP is usually close. However, when running outside it's harder to gauge your intensity and speed so I've found the HRM is much more accurate for that kind of exercise. I bought the Buh-Bump cream for my HRM and I know have no…
  • If the treadmill you have doesn't have the ability to input your age, weight, etc. then it is going to give you results for an average person that weighs 150 pounds. You can Google "calories burned" during running, walking , etc. and you'll find many web sites that will somewhat calculate your calorie burn. Before I got my…
  • I don't log food while on vacation and on the weekends. I tried not logging for awhile but like someone else said you forget about the small things you've eaten and next thing you know you're way over. Once I've reached my goal weight I may try not logging for awhile to see if I have the hang of it or not. But I've got 35…
  • You can try caloriesperhour.com. Before I got my HRM I would google several websites and average them out. Calories per hour website does a pretty good job. If I were you I would try to save my money and get an HRM that calculates your calories burned... that way you're not guessing.
  • I Googled the smoothie and found the following on 3 fat chicks on a diet web site. Don't know if this is it or not but thought I'd post it for you. If you try it let us know if it's as bad as the poster suggests. Hi, Did anyone try/see Dr. Oz's smoothie recipe posted in Womans World Magazine dated March 8th? I love Dr. Oz,…
  • I use the Arnold Sandwich Thins 100 calories for 1 roll (top & bottom). Sometimes I toast it and put jam on it or whatever else you want to put on it. I don't think they taste bad at all.
  • Welcome to MFP! Stick with this site and you will reach your goals. Just look around at all the posts and see the resluts others have had. Good luck to you on your run this September.
  • The only way to know for sure is to invest in an HRM. That being said I wore my HRM last week when I did the shred and my calorie burn was 288 calories. I am 5'6", weigh 172, and did level 2 with 3# weights. A lot is determined by how much of the routine you actually do and how much you put into it. For myself it could…
  • I have the Sansa Fuze. It's really light weight, can clip on your clothes or put in an arm band. I load music directly from my music on the computer but you can load music from web based music sites as well. It also has an FM band if you just want to listen to the radio. You can shuffle the music, play in order or play…
  • Congrats on the weight loss so far...I'm glad you you're on this path now and going in the right direction. Stick with MFP and you'll reach your goals!
  • I'm not sure how much you're wanting to lose per week, maybe it's set too high. I started out wanting to lose 2 pounds per week but that was unrealistic. I fix food for my husband and myself (he's not watching his wasteline) so I can only restrict so much. I moved it to one pound per week and that was doable. IT's a lot…

  • Congrats on one year with MFP and your weight loss!:flowerforyou: As for being a slow weight loser...I think that's the best way. It means you're making lifestyle changes you can live with and you're more apt to keep this weight off for good. That's what we want anyway, weight gone forever, not weight gone fast and for…
  • My goal for 2010 is to lose my last 35 pounds and then maintain the rest of my life. It took me 15 years, of eating too much and exercising too little, to put on 100 pounds. If I lose the last 36 by the end of the year then it will have taken me 5 years to lose that 100. Thank you MFP, because I lost 45 of my 65 pounds…
  • I have the the Polar F11. I ordered the new strap and the buh-bump cream from the Polar USA website. It says to apply the cream liberally to each electrode or directly on the skin. Just wasn't sure about wetting it too. I was having troubles with my old strap, it would continually lose my heart rate, very aggravating! The…
