I run in the mornings and don't usually eat or drink anything until afterward unless it's a long run and then I drink during the run. On the rare occasion that I do eat before running, it's usually 1/2 a banana. That's about the only thing that doesn't sit on my stomach. Hope you find something that works for you!

I find the crowd motivating too! I run times in races I could never do out on my own. Just go have fun :)

Look up some IT band stretches and KT taping for runners knee. . . and try the foam roller. I agree that you may want to go get checked out and make sure you don't have something torn. Do you have access to a pool? You may try running in a pool until it feels better - no impact/great workout. I can relate and really hope…

If I get snacky in the evenings, I drink a chocolate EAS advantedge protein shake. It really works for me - gives me something sweet and eliminates cravings!

Thanks everyone, checking these suggestions out and will definitely check out the DC Rainmaker reviews. @timeasterday - That is exactly what I am finding from a lot of the product reviews. Polar for heart rate, Garmin for GPS.

How Far We've Come by Matchbox 20 - only if I have to run on the track or treadmill, I usually run without music. . .so peaceful!

Congrats, that's a great time for your first 5K!

Diet Pepsi was my bad habit - I gave it up a few yrs ago. At first, I cut down to one a day, then just weekends, and at some point just lost the desire for it. I've had it since then and it's so crazy how it doesn't taste the same to me at all now!

I experience something similar every now and then. I notice it sometimes when I am stretching after a run. I know what you mean by being alarmed by it!

Congratulations!!

I actually forget the exact time of my PR, but it was under 19:00. That was a LONG time ago though! 4 kids and a lot of years later, I got back into running seriously a few months ago. I've done 2 5Ks as a Mom in her thirties @ 25:01 and 23:32. Hoping to get under 20 minutes again is a huge goal of mine!

Pineapple Chobani is my FAVORITE!

Looks like you got some good advice here, just want to add that if you really do want to run. . . it does get easier. It just takes time. I got back into running about 3 months ago and it was really ugly at first. My heart rate was ridiculously high and I was sucking air BIG time. I can go run now and while there is always…

I run around town or from my front door most of the time, but we do have some beautiful trails and scenery if I wanted to drive a little further. Time is what keeps me from it, I have 4 kids and little time to get out! As my kids get older, hopefully we can go do some trails together on the weekends and make it a family…

Hello :) Just added you! It looks like you are very dedicated and doing an awesome job with getting in shape!!! Yay for getting back to 130. I can't wait to get there too! My twins are 4. My stomach has not gone back to how it used to be, but running and strength training does help pull it all in quite a bit. I know it's…

Are you using a HRM? You may be burning more calories than you think on the road.
