  • Thanks! I think I might go pick up some KT tape tomorrow and see how it does - I've got a long training weekend for the Goofy this weekend and I don't want to cut my 35K short b/c of my tendon.
  • That's too funny! Is it sad that I have that on my playlist? I gotta go listen to it now!
  • I will be doing some winter running this year - training in Canada for a January marathon (in Florida) might not have been the wisest decision. Up here a lot of ppl use Yak Trax Pro. I'll try those out, but I'm due for some new shoes and any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • Hi! I'm also in Calgary. Maybe we can support each other on this journey...
  • This is what my trainer told me to do - but everyone is different. Sometimes it depends on how fast I'm going. Some people do 2 strides in and 2 out, some do 3 strides in and 2 out, etc... I find that I usually do 3 strides in and then 2 out. It's whatever feels comfortable for you. Once I started doing this I found that I…
  • You slipped and it did get out of control - but you have recognized this and you are willing to fight for something precious and worth fighting for... your health! I'm very proud of you for doing this. It's too easy to stay unhealthy and keep all our bad habits. As much as we complain about being tired and fat, the fat…
  • I've only been lifting for a couple of weeks now, but this morning my scale was up 3 pounds from where I started. I've been staying under my calorie goal and drinking more water than I have in a long time. I was pretty discouraged about the gain. Thanks for posting the question. I feel better now!
  • ' You just described my foot!! I also use the Mizuno Wave Creation (on my 3rd pair) and love them!
  • I follow Jeff Galloway's run/walk/run method. It's the only way I would be able to cover such long distances and it keeps me injury free. I'll be doing my second half this July and then the WDW marathon in January using this method. Do I wish I could run the whole thing? Yes. But doing the walk breaks keeps me strong to…
  • I use Hoo Ha Ride Glide. I apply before the swim and it's still there. I also use it for my long runs. Being a larger girl, I can chafe pretty easily and I want to avoid it at all costs! Would I have issues during a sprint tri without it? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. But I'm not going to find out.
  • I did my first tri last August. Here's the recap: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/RunningAggie?month=201108 I'll be doing another one this August followed by one in September. The Sept one is an open water swim and I'm not used to swimming in the cold lakes up here! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm not an…
  • If I had known that student loans could be forgiven I would have taken out a lot more! LOL... I took our a few loans in undergrad and got them paid off rather quickly - not because I had a high paying job when I graduated (I was a field biologist) but because I only took out what I absolutely needed. For my years of…
  • No matter how amazing you are - you are still human... I've been stalled in my weight loss for over a decade - the same 5-10 pounds coming and going. I have noticed that my self esteem has gotten better - but it's been a long, hard battle. My self esteem isn't where I want it to be and I still have periods where it gets…
  • Just found out one's coming here in August! I can't wait!! My friend does them and her pics make it look like the best time!
  • Hey! I'm doing my second half this summer, along with two sprint tris. I'm also training for the WDW marathon next January. I need to get a strength training program going so feel free to add me and maybe we can help each other!!
  • Been in Calgary for 2.5 years now. Originally from Texas.
  • I was 251 (my highest in January 2001). I've gone up and down some - did get to 200 in 2008 and immediately got pregnant. Once again I gained 40lbs with the baby. I'm trying to not focus on the numbers but how active and happy I am. With exception of the time I got down to 200 I've been 230-240 since 1999 (my first child…
  • Thanks for posting the topic... I'm still reading my copy of the book and haven't gotten into the nitty gritty of it yet. I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions when I do!
  • Name: Dawn Age: 36 Location: Alberta Hi! I competed in my first tri (sprint) this past August and followed it up with my first half marathon in September. I'm currently training with the university's tri club and plan to do a sprint and an Olympic tri next year. I'm just starting in my journey to become healthier and enjoy…
  • Wow! I spent many a summer in Rockport/Fulton. My grandparents lived there. I hope you enjoy it there!
  • I would also have to put a vote in for hot yoga. The heat works wonders at loosening up the muscles so you can get the full benefit of the stretch. I also recommend taking some class - most places will let you try one for free or do a week unlimited for $20 - form is very important and just like in running if you are…
  • I was always fearful of spinning as well. When I started tri training, that's what part of our brick workout is. We do a spin class followed by a running session. I'm by no mean "in shape". I'm currently in the 230's but I love spinning. You get out of it what you put in it. No one but you knows how high you set your…
  • I have about 95 that I would like to lose - honestly I would love to lose 105, but I'll have to see when I get closer. I can't even remember what it was like to be 135lb. Haven't been that small in half a lifetime... Would love all the support I can get!
  • Thanks everyone! This will be my 3rd winter here. The first winter was wonderful! The white fluffy stuff that fell was beautiful. I was a stay at home mom and did not have to get out if I didn't want to. Last winter I did have to get out - even if it was -30 outside!! I'm in grad school and evidently you don't get snow…
  • Awesome job! Love the pic at the finish line. I had both my boys cross the line with me at my first Tri - it meant so much to me to have them there...
  • I would love to have a swimming buddy. I grew up swimming and used to do 2Km/day. I started tri training and realized that "they" changed the correct way to swim from the time I learned. I'm having to kinda relearn the proper form. I moved from Texas (where EVERYONE swims) to Canada where swimming isn't as popular a past…
  • I did my first sprint about a month ago. I loved it! My goals were: A. To finish B. of my own volition C. in the time allotted D. with a smile on my face! I joined the university's tri club and am training with them - I'm definitely the heaviest and least fit member, but I'm trying. I am already registered for the same…
  • Thanks for all the information. I know that I have to do what's best for me and what is sustainable for me. I was just wondering if others have tried this type of diet. I'll be going back to my sports nutritionist soon and will ask her what her opinion is. Way to go to everyone on their achievements! I'm in awe of you…
  • Howdy Everyone! 1. What is the #1 thing/saying/thought/whatever that motivates YOU? Like so many people, this isn't just about weight loss for me - it's about living life. The song "I hope you dance" by Lee Ann Womack says it better than I about what my new philosophy is when it comes to living. 2. What are your plans for…
  • Of course you would post this the day after I finally bought one! At least it gives me something, but I will be looking to upgrade sooner rather than later.
