  • I've been throwing in 3-4 carrots, a handful of spinach, 2 stalks of celery, 2 roma tomatoes and 1/2-1 orange. I also add a little fiber powder to make up for the fiber you're losing from juicing. I rarely eat breakfast, so I've been "adding" this to my first thing in the morning routine. I have psoriasis and in 4 days of…
  • I find that high fiber snacks help - grapes and beans, for example. I just finished a salad with a bunch of veggies and a serving of garbanzo beans (dressing was non-fat yogurt and salsa...yum!)...I am FULL. I don't think I've ever been actually full on salad before! I like things like black bean soup, low fat hummus, etc.…
  • I have a weakness for spicy food. One thing I like to do is buy a can of garbanzo beans, rinse them and let them dry out a little. Spread them on a baking sheet, spray with a non-fat cooking spray and season the heck out of them (salt, pepper, chili powder, cayenne, garlic...whatever sounds good to you). Then, bake them on…
  • I like vodka and soda water with just a splash of juice. You get the flavor from the juice (pineapple, grapefruit, cranberry, whatever), but cut the calories by using soda water. It does the trick for me!
  • I like to bake spaghetti squash, scoop out the squash and mix it with canned diced tomatoes, black beans and random veggies. It's different, tasty and one of those meals where whatever you have works.
  • I was just put on antidepressants and I saw that one of the side effects was weight gain due to increased appetite. I haven't been super active on this site for some time because of some medical issues (distracted, mainly), but I am using MyFitnessPal to avoid the possible weight gain that being on these meds can cause!…
  • I make a low(er) calorie/fat version: a can of drained and rinsed garbanzo beans, lemon juice (I use a whole lemon, but taste as you go for flavor), about 1/4-1/2 fat free plain yogurt, 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder. Blend it in the blender and it's very close to original hummus. I…
  • And, by the way....I just had a bunch of labwork done. All coffee and little water was causing some of my electorlytes to be off and low blood pressure - all signs of dehydration! NOT GOOD.

  • I heard a doctor on the radio say that if you take your weight and divide it by 2, that's how many ounces of water a day you should drink if you are trying to lose weight. This idea was confirmed in nursing school, as well. I did it once years ago and lost 10 pounds quickly...now, that's "water weight", but it really does…
