  • I am doing a combination of several diets (DASH, ADA, and WW). For weight loss, I stick to lean proteins (with a goal of near 100 grams per day), at least five servings of fruits and non starchy vegetables, adequate calcium and plenty of water. If I have red meat, it is twice per week or less. If I have potatoes, I stick…
  • I have done DASH loosely for about ten years. Right now, I am doing WW but following many of the principals of DASH. Mostly, I try to get five servings of non-starchy fruits and vegetables every day; meat only two meals per week, beef only once or twice per week and never two days in a row; red potatoes one two meals per…
  • Yes! I just started three weeks ago.
  • This isn't outside of the box, but what about toast with peanut butter and a banana?
  • I wasn't overweight when I got pregnant with my first child, but the PCOS was still an obstacle. Its so discouraging and frustrating. My husband, sister and I all did Weight Watchers in between my first and second child. Even though I HATED going to weekly meetings, it kept me on task. The flexibility of the program…
  • If by "it," you mean "gain 130 pounds after you lost your pregnancy weight," I'm an expert. :) Just kidding. I don't know what the hell happened. For me, it started out with vertigo after my second child was born making exercise difficult. Then, it was eating fast food in the car because it felt like the only time that I…
  • Avoid Starbucks? Wait. What?! Actually, my coffee needs are fairly simple and I try to stick to one ginormous fresh cup each day. I finally got a Keurig for Christmas and just use a Starbuck's pod. I use regular milk to help get my calcium and sweet n low, which is really inconsistent with my attempt to eat relatively…
  • Jennym93, I have no useful suggestions, but I wanted to tell you to hang in there. Now that I am almost 50, I can look back and see how many changes that my body/hormones/unpleasant symptoms of PCOS have been through since I was a teenager. Do your best to consistently eat healthy and be active. Do what you need to do…
  • My doctor recommended trying DASH about 6 years ago when I started having trouble with blood pressure. I lost about 15-20 pounds, too, which was awesome. I just started it again three days ago. My goals are to get the servings of fruits and vegetables, make the potassium and calcium goals, and stay within a calorie range.…
  • Take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or naproxin. Don't take acetaminophen. Rest it for a few days. Alternate heat and ice for ten minutes at a time. When it starts feeling better, take care to stretch them when you are warmed up. Do toe points and then flex your foot. When you are done with exercise, take care to…
  • What are the first three. I am assuming rotten bananas is one of them, judging from the banner ad.
  • Hopefully, the fatty liver will correct itself with weight loss. I have that, too. Last time I lost weight, my liver function tests got better. It is also good to stay away from alcohol and products containing tylenol. I used to have diverticulitis. I had been seeing a doctor for weight loss and she kept me on a very high…
  • I am 45 and live in Douglas County. I have about 130 pounds to lose. I have 7 and 9 year old sons and work in Atlanta part time.
  • Welcome from West Georgia! I am a returning member. Hopefully, I will stay with it this time. Do a few searches in groups for people with similar weight loss goals, age, interests, etc. Watch the posts to see ones that interest you and then friend request. You will be surprised with how much support you find!
  • I make cinnamon apples all of the time but have never thought about apple cider! I am definitely going to have to try that. Thanks for the recipe.
  • I will be (gulp) 46 next month. I have 7 and 9 year sons. And I have (double gulp) 130 pounds to lose. How does that happen?! :)
  • I am almost 46 with two fabulous children. I do not run, but I am originally from the Detroit area and have a soft spot for the Lions.
  • I think it is good to go and see the doctor. I went about 18 months ago and found out that I have insulin resistance and extremely low vitamin d. The doctor prescribed medicine (metformin) to help with my insulin resistance and vitamin d. Based upon several factors, she gave me a diet that fits my IR, PCOS and high blood…
  • I am very happy for you! The journey is long, but so worth it. Keep up the good work.
  • 2 lbs down...129 lbs to go. Feel free to add me.
  • I will bet it is a growth spurt. I agree with everyone else about the water. It is very important to help with supply. As my first got closer to one year, I used fenugreek to help improve production. During that time, I did WW. I got an extra 10 points every day plus was supposed to have four servings of calcium. I don't…
  • That is so the opposite of what I was hoping to hear! I didn't think about the possibility of burning calories in my sleep.
  • A coke. Not diet coke. A straight up million grams of sugar coke!
  • First, I am not totally sure that vitamins in pill form are fully absorbed by the body. But, just in case, I try to take a multivitamin everyday. :) Second, you may want to ask your doctor to check to see if you have a vitamin deficiency. For some reason, I have a vitamin d deficiency. Occasionally, my doctor gives me a Rx…
  • This is really good. I like this list.
  • You may want to look at what you are eating. Are you getting enough protein and healthy fats? I am insulin resistant and find that all carbs/starches are not created equal when it comes to calories and wieght loss.
  • I am also a working mom of 2 boys (age 7 and 9) and need to lose about 130 pounds. I just recently started back last week. Just logging your food makes a big difference. Of course, exercising, eating healthy and drinking lots of water makes it even better! You will find a lot of support on MFP. Feel free to add me as a…
  • YAY!!!! It is exactly a success story. Weight loss involves many things -- and it doesn't always make sense. Just enjoy this victory and try to be patient.
  • I have had plantar faciitis on and off since 2005. I have always had problem with tendinitis and arthritis. I am focusing on building up the smaller muscles around ankles and knees before I try too much exercise. However, when I was doing physical therapy for the plantar faciitis, I warmed up my joints with a heating pad…
  • My 8 year old has been recently diagnosed. If you don't mind, I would love it if you could send me the food plan, too. So far, we are just trying to eliminate the junk food and a lot of the processed food. We also make an effort to have protein at every meal.
