  • I'm 44 and put on some weight after being hospitalized in October. I've lost 13 lbs since December 5 using MFP and am almost back to my pre-admission weight. Now, I need to work on muscle toning.
  • I had a Taco Bell binge once that included 2 beef chalupa supremes, 2 taco supremes, AND nacho supremes. Like lots of other people have reported, I've also been able to eat a disproportionately huge amount of pizza at times.
  • It's not the most flavorful beer I've ever had, but I enjoy Bud Select 55 (55 cal./12 oz) and because the alcohol content by volume is slightly less than 3%, I can drink 3 or 4 of them. :)

  • Me, too! 100%, all the way. Christian.
  • Same here -- you look amazing! Congratulations on your weight loss.
  • That is unreal!!! You look absolutely incredible!
  • Incredible!!! I am so inspired. :D Congratulations.
  • I'm glad you are ready to take better care of yourself. What you ought to do is reconfigure your goals, pretending that you weigh 115 lbs, and follow the recommended calorie intake for maintenance. You should not have to focus on any particular food group, but instead be sure to include a variety of healthy and nutrition…
  • Thanks for the comments (I like the calculator!) Yes, I think maybe alternating is a good idea, since our bodies do get used to patterns so easily. Keep it interesting is a good bet.
  • Carbs haven't ever been an enemy of mine. I keep myself going with them! My real problem is just making bad choices a lot of the time, overeating, and not tracking. I'm glad I've got this site to help me with that now. :D
  • With all the exercise you're doing, I'd say you do need to up your calories. Keep your body fueled so your metabolism will run at peak performance. When you exercise hard and don't eat enough, your muscles are working overtime and your electrolytes aren't balanced, which can lead to persistent water retention. Go ahead and…
  • That's amazing! The first picture is still beautiful, without a doubt, but you can really tell the difference with the second one. You look great. Congratulations.
  • Count me in. It's going to be a stretch, but i'm willing to try. I'd be in a very happy place after only 10 more lbs! Let's do this thing.
  • It sounds like your friend's husband was enthusiastic and trying to pay you a compliment, but I know how you feel about getting the attention, too. :D I have just gotten to a point in my life where I feel like being very open about things. I don't even mind people knowing my numbers anymore. I have never been the type to…
  • If the starvation mode theory is true at all, it could only be short term because think about it -- people in this world do starve to death and famine is widespread in underdeveloped countries. If all you had to do to keep from losing more weight was stop eating, we could just walk over and tell them "hey, if you want to…
  • I second the recommendation for Miller Genuine Draft 64, if you can get it where you live. I'm not sure whether it's available across the pond.
  • First thing: just because you are there doesn't mean your healthy living habits are out the window. No one has a right to impose their unhealthy lifestyle on you, or to pressure you to eat something you would rather avoid. There are subtle ways to protest that sort of bullying, which often does come from people we love…
  • I do wish apples could do that for me, but for some odd reason apples generally make me feel hungrier after eating them. I need to look into more of the low GI foods for guidance, though.
  • I second the recommendations for counselling, but if you find that it is impossible to get that, you might want to seek spiritual direction from a trusted member of the clergy or a religious brother or sister, or even a lay person who has been trained in spiritual direction. This mortal experience is a battlefield of our…
  • I like to make my own seasoned tofu and vegetables, Szechuan style (spicy). I also like to use organic soba noodles instead of rice since it has fewer calories and holds flavor so well. Nothing wrong with steamed white rice, though.
  • I'm 5'4" and my first goal is 135. Once I get there, I might set a new one that places me soundly in the 120s.
  • I am not sure which medication you are taking, but there are several that are notorious for causing weight gain, and if you taking one of those, you have probably read the stories of people who gained up to 30 lbs in as little as 3-6 months while in treatment. Since you are eating and working out as you have described, it…
  • Oishil -- good point. People really are very different from one another in terms of what general guidelines predict they can expect. I'll be interested to see how this goes, since my predicted loss rate at 1440 is 1/2 lb weekly. Since I've probably been eating way above normal for a few months (heehee...) I might lose a…
  • I actually have never taken vitamin C, but I'm going to get some tomorrow and give it a try. I'm a big fan of super B complex. Thank you. :D

  • LOL, I guess I should have Googled it first, but for anyone besides me who might be wondering about the cereals and fortified grains, this link has a bit of insight: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/ida/ida_treatments.html I had no idea tofu was a good dietary source of iron. I love tofu! :D

  • Thanks everyone, for the lists and recommendations, and that ironrichfoods website. About the iron in Cheerios...you know, I'm not sure whether those will work for me. I think what doesn't work is an iron tablet or vitamin with iron, and maybe since the iron is in the food it works? I could be wrong. A doctor once told me…

  • Today is so much better than yesterday. I'm doing great and sticking to my calorie guidelines and I'm not panicking this time, because I do have a reasonable amount of calories left today and I don't think I'm going to be starving. :D A very good day.
  • That's awesome, rjl. You must be in very good shape with your level of activity. I need to get more active myself.
  • I think I'll make mine public, too. Everyone will laugh at my menus though! LOL Well, I did go back and edit my goals. To lose .5 lbs/week, I will need to keep it to 1440 calories (MUCH more reasonable.) And I imagine I'll have slightly more energy than I've had, too, because I won't be starving myself as badly -- which…
  • Oh, my goodness --you guys totally rock. Thank you for all these supportive posts. I was really surprised to get back here and see all your helpful suggestions. As so many of you suggested, I am going to up my daily calories to at least 1350--1400 and reduce my desired rate of weight loss to a more reasonable .5 lb/week.…
