I have lipedema too, although I haven't gotten an official diagnosis yet (next week). The hardest part with regards to weight is figuring out how much I can control and how much I can't. I know I also have obesity and some of it I have to take responsibility for without blaming myself for the part I cannot control.

Have the deli slice it for you. I haven't checked the label but I know it sure tastes better than the prepackaged stuff.

Hate is a strong negative motivator. Try to find something you love about this whole thing and concentrate on what you love and are grateful for. Grateful for your counselor? Glad there are healthy things that taste good like strawberries, or whatever fruit you like? Grateful there are people to talk to on MFP? Enjoy…

JudiMoving2, your fears are normal but hopefully you are also excited, hopeful and determined? Chewing food and self evaluation are important things to practice now. I'm glad you have seen others fail with surgery (not glad they failed, but glad you are able to see that it is possible). You will need to use that knowledge…

perhaps he is building muscle and therefore the scale is not showing a weight loss? perhaps 2 weeks is not enough of a timeframe to measure the results? I can go a week or two without showing a loss when I'm eating lightly... then it all drops at once.

also bought oatmeal and I have some pretzels.

yesterday I purchased chocolate whey protein, chia seeds, stevia, honey, peanut butter, and almond milk. also some mini choc chips (to be used sparingly) - hopefully will get time to try a couple of the recipes tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry ladies both of you responded to my query and I didn't respond to you. Would like to talk to you more about lap band as both of you are into it for awhile now - going on 3 years for me. Successful in weight loss but not without some serious problems. You? -

When I did a medically supervised weight loss program they had a list of things we could eat unlimited quantities of. It was basically fruits and vegetables but we had to eat AT LEAST 5 cups per day and more if we were still hungry. So, have your pasta, after you have had a cup or two of a vegetable. Eat an apple or even…

Yes, for a starting goal that makes a lot of sense. Keep in mind that as you lose, especially if you are exercising which you must be to have that kind of goal, that the final number may be different than your calculation. Your calc of pounds to lose is dependent on your current body fat %. if you lost those extra 15.4 kg,…

I double, triple, get it, and will add you.

Try lettuce other than iceberg such as romaine or spinach. Add ingredients with substance that will make you feel full such as kidney or black beans, garbanzo beans (chick peas), and hearty vegetables such as broccoli, green pepper, celery, really anything if you like it. You can add mandarin oranges. The biggest tip I can…

I like to use cottage cheese instead of salad dressing. It's a better food than dressing and it does the job.... moisten the salad. I happen to love cottage cheese anyway. Also if you are going to have salad, add some good sources of protein such as beans or chickpeas.

Thanks for sharing your story. You are an inspiration!

Regarding wheat bread, I find that the kind which has nuts and seeds in it goes down easier than the kind that is more uniform. Maybe because it breaks up a little easier.

I just had my 2nd fill and it is starting to work for me. After the surgery and after the 1st fill, the restriction lasted awhile but not permanently. When I told my surgeon I was able (sadly) to eat an entire half pound hamburger and fries, with no vomiting or other problems, he promptly gave me the 2nd fill and it seems…

Ah, if only your fast food buddies would catch on that they should feel "crappy" that you have "forgotten the fast food" and realize that they miss the company of the new healthy you.

Your questions and answers indicate that you are a lot like me. I am also very pragmatic. I also lost a fair amount of weight before the surgery, making me doubt my decision. But like you, I knew that I just didn't want to face another time of thinking I could do it on my own and finding out I wouldn't make it without…

I told my manager I was having surgery and that I didn't want my office to know. I did not tell him what kind of surgery and he was good enough not to ask. My coworkers and employees only know that I was sick for a few days with stomach problems. People at my church knew I was planning the surgery but when I postponed it…

Buy some cut up fruit and use it when you need a snack. Or as dessert.

My suggestion is that you pick a few of the people that have replied to this post... people that it seems you would like and trust... and keep your friends to a few for awhile. I had 6 people friended that were mostly similar to me and when I started adding more I began to feel a little insecure. Your "friends" will be…

I'll add one more voice to the message... Thank you for sharing your story! I am so glad you are on the journey. Your accomplishments are remarkable. I hope you tell your wife every day how much you love her... having a supportive spouse (I do too) means EVERYTHING!

McKay, Love it that you are losing weight without doing something drastic like surgery. I'm probably about twice your age and have lost weight several times, never more than 30 lbs all by myself but as much as 127, 75, 50, with the help of a medical weight loss clinic. The director of the program, the educators, my…

So for you... weight loss did improve your depression. My depression is over more things than weight loss but I am hoping the weight loss will improve my ability to cope with the other things. Yes, I will be seeing a therapist who is experienced in weight issues and will also attend support groups, Dr. appointments, and…

Thanks everybody, I'm getting a consensus and that means a lot. Will talk to Dr. with your advice in mind.

LOL. Carry on yourself!

Getting lots of good advice but what I am looking for is.... what kinds of psychological changes can I hope for after surgery and should I request my Dr. to up my medication (upon the advice of the therapist)? Can I hope to get off the meds after weight loss. I don't consider myself severely depressed and some that meet me…

Thanks for the great input on success with lap band. Next question.... how many calories do you typically eat with the band? I am in preop phase and am getting about 1500 with regular dieting. They have told me protein first 60gm minimum then fruits and veggies.... is that how you are all eating and how many cal are you…
