  • Fair enough - I just wondered if there was a better solution that anyone had found.
  • Started again about three weeks ago, so early days.
  • Dolphin hops look brutal, in a very good way. Thanks!
  • Boredom. I can do very well for a while - even up to a couple of years at a stretch - then I just get bored of logging everything and having to think about/plan food and exercise all the time, and gradually stop. There are so many other things that are so, SO much more interesting to think about and do.
  • Most of the salads, soups etc - and sandwiches/wraps et al, if they fit into your goals - from Pret are fairly good, and their nutritional info is pretty comprehensive. I've found them better than EAT. Crussh and Chop'd, if you have branches near work, are also good (probably better than Pret/EAT actually) - lots of…
  • Oh, that's cheering...:noway: : Ah well, I'd say I'm moderately attractive, so that should put me in the 'some' contact basket - there is hope...!
  • Maybe try eating a bit more - especially protein - earlier in the day? I tend to find that if I've eaten a good meal at breakfast and lunch I'm less likely to want to eat everything in sight in the evenings. Alternatively, see if it's a timing thing. If I'm too busy to eat until after 8-ish, I'm generally much less…
  • Harriet is the friend who 'listed' me on My Single Friend, Christine- that particular site requires that a friend writes a profile for you, and then you can comment/elaborate further. I've deleted the intro for now, and will see if that improves matters.
  • A variety of pics up, flimflam - head & shoulders and full-length (I have learned some things from this group along the way! ), and I did try to emulate the general feel of profiles that interested me. This seems to be about standard length for this website, though I do take your point. Trying to appeal to a wide…
  • Interesting stuff - I might just delete the introduction completely. It's not essential, and it's clearly not reading well. Anna - I'm listed under my real name - I just changed it to Castadiva to post here! ETA. I've deleted the intro. Let's see if I get a few more bites!
  • Have you asked him why he doesn't want to eat the pasta/rice/non-mashed potato? It may be something very simple, and easily fixed - he might say it hasn't got enough flavour, for example, since he eats rice with spices or mashed potato, which generally has more flavour because of the milk/butter/seasoning element. You…
  • Not offensive at all, and thanks for the feedback, dbrightwell12 (and congrats on the engagement!). I'd intended the first section you quoted to be light-hearted, but I can see how you might arrive at the reading you got - tone is so difficult to convey in these things! Interesting read of Harriet's sentence, too. More…
  • Anna hit the proverbial nail on its' proverbial head. Hi, everyone! Janey, congratulations! I signed up to a dating website, but so far it's been a total dead loss. The guys I like either don't like me, or are already starting to date someone, and the ones who do and get in contact are, well, not my type at all, so not…
  • Thanks - I will do. The correlation seemed pretty obvious at the time, so I didn't investigate further, but it's a good idea. The culprit could be something else. Stillosing26 - I mostly eat whole grains anyway, and was cutting out the refined things altogether in this period, but thanks for the thoughtful post.
  • I realise my OP probably wasn't very clear - 100g/day was the upper absolute limit - most days I was averaging between 40 and 60g gross. The symptoms appeared after a few days of this sort of eating and disappeared as soon as I reverted to eating more normally, so I'm fairly sure of the correlation. I was not taking…

  • Some interesting stuff here. Sodium and potassium to be looked at, as well as magnesium - will do. Yarwell - why avoid high water consumption? Because of flushing sodium etc? Definitely not low-fat - I'm a red meat, full-fat dairy kind of girl - and no 'diet' products in the mix. sljohnson - I'm not actually doing this at…
  • Thanks to all who had helpful comments and suggestions - I'll try the magnesium and look at the fiber and fat element Tameko suggested. Useful to know you react similarly, Anna - that's really what I wanted to know: have others experienced something similar and did it go away? I shall also bring it up with my doctor next…
  • Have to agree. Definitely time to switch surgeries - or is there someone else at your surgery you could try? I suspect there are more local surgeries in London than Yorkshire, so it may be more difficult to switch surgery completely, but worth a go. I'd also seriously consider lodging a complaint, especially if you have…
  • OK, three things jumping out at me here. The NHS requirement to be considered for bariatric surgery is a BMI over 40. See here: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/weight-loss-surgery/Pages/who-can-use-it.aspx . Think it's time to find a new doctor, as this one clearly doesn't believe you, and it would seem, doesn't know his…
  • I'm very poor at strictly controlling my diet - I'm a foodie, love to cook, have a busy social life, and frankly feel that life is too short to eat things I don't actively enjoy or relish, simply because they're lower in calories than the foods I enjoy - I eat lots of red meat, full-fat dairy, fruit & vegetables,…
  • Another quote that comes to mind, and has, I think, been too much forgotten in this era: "Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind" - Helena in Shakespeare's 'Dream. Men may be more 'visual' than women, but anyone who truly loves - enough to consider a lifelong commitment - should be more concerned with what's inside…
  • And where are you moving to? London, I guess from the pic in your profile. Welcome!
  • A question for you: do the binge days follow any sort of pattern? Do they coincide with, or follow, days/events when you are more stressed, or upset/lonely/angry/worried/bored/isolated than usual? I have experienced similar issues in the past and still do battle with it, though to a lesser extent than I did. I generally…
  • You have time in your life for every meal to take 30-60 minutes?!?! I want your schedule!
  • I know what you mean... The good news is that it does get better/more tolerable. If you're trying to cut back on grains, try adding more proteins and fats to your meals - I find I do much better/feel less empty if I have a salad or dish that involves some sort of cheese, avocado and meat, for example - not just leaves,…
  • Yes, it swings both ways - marriage is hard work, and both parties need to take responsibility for actions/situations that undermine that. However, the post I was responding to, re-posted below (and its' adherents), basically says that the problems in her marriage are all her fault, and all because of her weight. I don't…
  • She's the only person who can decide how important it is to her to change, and how likely that change is, to her, to alter the state of her marriage, which seems to be on pretty thin ice to start with, as described here. He can certainly have his feelings on the subject, as could she, if the situation were reversed, but as…
  • Jaw dropping at the number of women agreeing with the person who posted that the OP shouldn't 'rebel' but just lose weight as not doing so wasn't 'fair' to her husband because "men are visual creatures"... Um, no. There's that little line in marriage vows about 'for better, for worse' - that doesn't come with the…
  • Having now seen the outfit in question, I can't see anything wrong with it, though it might be a bit too casual for some parties, especially if some of those attending are colleagues rather than friends, or the general vibe is more formal/dressy - I guess it depends on the area you live in, and the situation you expect to…
