Larger-framed-ladies, what's your goal weight?
This is a thread for all those who have ever looked at a thread entitled 'Such and such a height, what's your goal weight', looked at the answers, and despaired! Ladies with larger-than-average frames, and consequently, higher-than-average goal weights, what are your goals? We may never fit into the BMI-chart, we may…

Logging kettlebell workouts
Jut wondering if anyone has figured out a way to log kettlebell workouts? I’m doing classes via a livestream but haven’t been able to find anything in the database that really fits this category. I’ve been logging as half strength and half light-effort calisthenics as the best compromise I could come up with, but would…

Alternative to prone jackknife with Swiss Ball?
Can anyone offer suggestions for an exercise to replace a prone jackknife (with Swiss ball)? I've smashed my left wrist too many times for the pressure that exercise puts on it to be comfortable/safe. I've been doing crunches on the ball in lieu, but would like something that more closely approximates the effect of the…

C25K - adding weight to app?
Does anyone know how to add your weight to the Zenlabs app? The calories-burned calculation seems to be way off, and the lack of weight data is probably to blame. I can't find anywhere in the app to add this info.

I'm back - sort of - looking for some feedback
...Which I may or may not like, I know! Sorry I've been away so long, but I need opinions from people who are actually looking at/using dating sites on a reasonably regular basis, and you guys are my best bet! Long post alert, by the way (do I ever write anything less?!) Background: I signed up for 'My Single Friend' a…

Very Low Carb and depression - how long?
Hi, hoping to hear from others who have experienced the symptoms of depression whilst using a very low carb diet ie. say under 100g, as an upper limit (I realise this may be pretty high for some, but not for me!). I find that within 4-5 days of starting a programme of this sort, I become lethargic, very weepy, unmotivated…

Quark...what do you do with it?
I've just bought some quark for the first time, because it seems to have a higher protein value than many similar items. What do you do with it? Ideas and recipes would be much appreciated.

Seated row machine only goes up to 25kg...
Does anyone have any brilliant ideas about alternatives/adjustments for working with a heavier weight on this? 25kg is barely even effortful for me! Any ideas gratefully received :flowerforyou:

Good alternative to inverted jack-knife with ball? NROLFW
Hi, I've just started working on the programs outlined in NROLFW and am enjoying them so far. However, it's become obvious that I can't do the inverted jack-knife with swiss ball that is included in the stage-one A workout, due to a head injury last year - I very nearly passed out and had to leave the set incomplete. Can…

Eggs...how many?
I'm aware that the previous status-quo about eggs and cholesterol has been disproven (or at least altered), but I wondered if anyone can tell me whether there is a new guideline about the number of eggs one can safely consume in a day/week? I'm aiming for a low-carb, high-protein diet at present, for medical reasons, and…

What do you put on/eat with cottage cheese?
Looking for some ideas - I used to have cottage cheese on Ryvita with sliced tomato a few times a week, but I'm trying to avoid crackers/bread etc for a while. What do you put on/eat with cottage cheese?

Rowing machine technique - help please!
I enjoy using the rowing machine for warm-up purposes when I'm at the gym, far more than any other cardio equipment (Treadmill? There's no way I'm walking/jogging inside when I could do the same in the fresh air!). I'd quite like to build up this portion of my workout to get more benefit from it, but I find that the straps…

Core exercises for the concussed...?
I was recently involved in an accident that resulted in fairly severe concussion. Moving my head up and down, either independently or as part of a whole-body movement, or tilting it forwards or backwards, leads to significant dizziness and (sometimes) nausea. I went back to the gym today for the first time, post-accident,…

Self Defence - who does what?
I had a rather scary end to my weekend (I'm OK), which got me thinking about self-defence. Does anyone here practice a particular form? I always meant to learn, but never had a compelling reason to do so. Now, I do. Krav maga and aikido have both been suggested to me as good sources for basic skills, but I wondered if…

Low-carb approaches - how long to see progress?
Just wondering how long it took to see some scale movement once you started eating a low-carb diet? I'm trying a no bread/potato/rice/grain regime in slight desperation, having been stuck on a plateau of around six months' duration, and so far (admittedly only a week), no movement at all, despite being at a deficit for the…

London-based personal trainers
Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for a personal trainer in London (Central-West, for preference). Ideally someone with a good knowledge of strength training, who won't be afraid of women lifting heavy, and HIIT. I'm not looking for someone to give me endless cardio, or to insist I should eat 'low fat, low carb', but…

Body Pump class at LAFitness
Just wondering if anyone has ever taken this class? I'd like to know what sort of intensity is involved and how much free-weight experience is required. I'm still fairly new to free weights, and would like to learn correct form etc, but wonder if this class would be an appropriate level/venue to do so? Any experiences with…

Water-filled hand weights
I'm looking for some water-filled hand weigts that I can use for travel. They seem to be freely available in the US (or at least on the US Amazon site), but I haven't been able to find a UK source. Does anyone have these, and if so, where did you get them?

Central/West London Gym rec's?
I'm looking for a gym for my mother in Central-West London. She enjoys weights and standard cardio, but is not in the best of shape or health. She also has very little disposable income to spend on membership, and won't want to be locked in to a long contract, as she changes countries of residence on a fairly-regular…

Merry Christmas, Peeps!
Just thought I'd wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a lovely New Year now, since I won't be around much, if at all, between now and Jan. 2nd. Up to the Highlands tomorrow, and internet access will be a) patchy and b) not my top priority  Have a wonderful, peaceful and restful time, wherever you are, whatever…

All I want for Christmas is...?
Because it's fun (and I'm not in stirring mood  ), something non-controversial (I hope!). Top three Christmas wishes? Personal, material, and altruistic... For me, a lovely man to kiss on NYE (failing which, a really fantastic work offer), a cashmere dressing gown (I'm feeling the cold so much more these days, and…

Moving on...
I had lunch today with a man I would marry in a heartbeat. When we first met, in mid-2009, he and the then-girlfriend had recently broken up, and towards the end of the week we spent together, after a fairly-flirtatious evening, he asked me to go home with him. Without going into details (long story), I thought he was…

Servants of the people, or in it for themselves?
I just realised I left out five critical words in the Secession thread... Should read: "The government may not be doing what you deem best for you personally. However, in a country like America, I think it's safe to assume that the majority of government is acting in what it believes to be the best interests of the…

The question of validation.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20219349 - This is worth a read, I think. More philosophical than the title suggests. " I don't believe the single person has a sceptical or reductive notion of love but suspect, rather, that they might be compelled by an even higher, almost unrealisable, conception of it." An interesting…

The News Anchor, the email and the response...
So, I've seen quite a lot of discussion in various places about the Wisconsin news anchor who responded to an email received from a viewer criticising her appearance, and specifically her weight. Here is the HuffPost article and link: Jennifer Livingston, a local news anchor in La Crosse, Wisconsin, responded to a viewer's…

I'm feeling brave
Or desperate. One of the two. I'm going to sign up on Match.com and give the whole internet thing a try again. Is castadiva an OK screen name, or do I need to come up with something totally different? Also, would any of you be willing to have a look at the profile once it's done, and give me your suggestions for, shall we…

Shopping-lists
I'm sure we've done this before, but in light of the conversation going on in the 'How long is too long' thread... What does your mental shopping-list consist of? Further, which are absolutes, which highly desirable, but could be negotiated, and which are just 'it would be nice if...' ? To start things off, my 'absolutes'…

So, who't this Ryan chap then?
Just saw that Romney has announced his running partner. Who is this Ryan chap (I've never heard of him, as far as I can recall), and what do the Americans here think of him/of Romney's choice? I must say, if they do win, they'll have a LOT of work to do to get back onside with the UK - criticise Great Britain seems to be…

How accurate, or otherwise, is the BMR calculator on MFP?
I ask because the MFP calculator gives me a BMR of 1675, and a few other online resources seem to be saying between 1705 and 1715... 40-50 calories isn't so much, but I'd like to be reasonably accurate about this!

Net or gross? Eat between BMR & TDEE...
Possibly a stupid question, but could someone please clarify for me if the advice to eat between your BMR and TDEE is based on net or gross intake ie. with/without exercise calories? I've been stuck at essentially the same point with only tiny losses for almost five months, despite having lowered my calories and changed my…
