  • Maybe this will help someone, in the past Ive always had shin splint issues really bad, started back in the military and throughout my entire military career to the point I hated running. I now am loving running and do not suffer from shin splits practically at all any more. The two main things that helped me was a much…
  • Yeah that site is great. Also I would recommend to learn how to do the kettlebell swing well. With that one exercise you can get a great workout for most of the body. Lately I have been doing ladders with KB swings / Burpees. I start at doing 10 of each alternating, then 9, 8, 7... down to 1 and then back up to 1. It is…
  • The problem with this type that you bought, it only takes heart rate when you touch it to take a reading, it is not taking a continuous reading so they are not very accurate for what you are trying to measure. These are really only good if you want to see if you are in your target heart rate range at a specific given time.
  • Insanity is awesome, but avoid it like the plague if you cannot handle jumping or have knee issues. Even the insanity book will tell you this and recommend a different beach body program. But again, I love the insanity program.

  • A lot of people say crossfit is bad for you too and causes lots of injuries in people. LOL
  • I was just posting about this yesterday - it does not have to be a binary choice - start out with just a few days and build to it. Here is a short 5 minute TED talk about the "weekday vegetarian" - makes some good points, especially for those on the fence. http://www.ted.com/talks/graham_hill_weekday_vegetarian.html Or…
  • Yes salads will get old very quick, so better to go into it with some planning, which able being prepared to start preparing a lot of meals (which is the hardest part for me last time i went total vegetarian for a month.) There are some good vegetarian / vegan cookbooks such as the vegenomicon. Also I found starting out…

  • TRX offers many different exercises and routines - if doing as cardio workout, I would guess 10 cal burn - 20 cal burn per minute if going all out. Hard to be too accurate without knowing what type of workout. Even still best way would be to use an HRM to get a general idea if possible.
  • 30-45 lbs recommended starting weight for male (I started with a 30, I will soon add a second 30 to do two at once instead of going up in weight for now) For woman 15 - 25 lbs is a recommended starting weight. Many of the things I have seen on TV such as kettleworx infomercials (which they also sell as a kit in stores) in…
  • Yeah I love them also, I think this one piece of equipment may be the single best portable / home gym solution.
  • I can get a good intense cardio workout in in under 15 miuntes, especially doing HIIT / tabata workouts. Not sure why they would say to not count the first 15 minutes, unless maybe you were doing really light steady state effort (like the people I see on the gym practically falling asleep on the exercise bikes going at a…
  • Wearing my HRM I get about 20 cal / minute avg burn. I also get my heart rate way up. LAtely I have been doing 60/30 intervals and my HR can easily hit 160+. 60/30 meaning 60 seconds of an exercise all out, 30 second rest, repeat... This may be the best cardio workout I have ever enjoyed doing that does a crazy burn! For…

  • There are healthy options at most of the restaurants. Regardless, keep in mind you are going to be out in the heat doing a ton of walking most likely, so not be afraid of getting extra calories in while enjoying the parks!

  • good points - since I started the 4HB this week the weight-loss seems to have picked up and my clothes are loose, so maybe I am also not measuring very accurately or at a consistent time
