It's great that you work out but diet is the main mover behind type 2 diabetes. I just had my A1C tested and got a 5.1. I have diabetes in my family and I weigh more than 300lbs but I keep carbohydrate to a minimum and don't eat any sugar or grains.

I do my best to limit my net carbs to under 30g a day or about 5% of my calories. I feel much better doing this than eating a "balanced" diet and I don't have any cravings or hunger even eating at a significant deficit.

Even if I hadn't lost a bunch of weight on a low carb diet, I'd still do it just for the health benefits. No bloating, acid reflux, better sleep, better fun time and I don't fart. At all. No grains, sugars or starches, it rules.

I cook my fish in butter or coconut oil and just toss some spinach in the pan to soak up any excess. Tastes great

Heavy cream and almond milk, sometimes a packet of truvia.

Coffee with heavy cream, almond milk, coconut milk, water. I also drink sugar free Rockstars they don't seem to stall my weightloss.

I am a fat man 6' tall and my wrists are 8.2 inches. Just for opposites sake!

I have nothing to add except that Louis CK rules.

If you go back to eating the way that made you fat, you will get fat again. This is true for any diet.

I do a ketogenic diet. I try and get about 65% of my calories from fat, 30% protein and 5% carbohydrates. I've done my best to eliminate grains and sugar from my diet. I'm not paleo by any means because I still eat "junk" but I do follow some paleo principles.

And 22g sugar! May as well just eat a normal Snickers bar.

Quest Bars are pretty good, no junk ingredients and low sugar. A bit pricey compared to most but worth it.

It's a decent study but with a sample size of twenty people I wouldn't call it conclusive. I think the best diet is the one that works for you. A keto diet works for many of us, whether or not it has a metabolic advantage remains to be seen. It does have an advantage in satiety, overall weight loss and possibly brain…

Mice studies are used frequently in many sciences to simulate certain conditions. I agree it's not 100% accurate to use mice but when most studies on humans are weak observational experiments I'd prefer to go with the mice. I can't access the specific reports as I'm on my phone, but here is a good summation of how ketones…

Ketogenic diets have been proven in mice to have greater metabolic effects. Also the lack of hunger that comes with a keto diet does help people stick to it and reduce their calories without trying. Ketones have also been shown to improve brain performance. The fact remains that the body doesn't need carbohydrate to…

Once your body gets into ketosis and starts using ketones for energy instead of glucose you will feel better. Just keep your fat and protein intake high. Your body will start breaking down its own fat for energy and you will feel great. I think a lot of people don't eat enough fat on a low carb diet, when it needs to be…

I like greek yogurt mixed with whatever low carb protein powder you like. Mine turns out to be like 44g protein. KIND of high carb (at least the Fage I buy is 8g carb per cup) but good fats and protein.

Hey there, I've been doing a low carb diet for awhile. How many carbs are you eating per day? If you are low enough, then the transition to burning fat for energy can be hard. People often call it the "keto-flu". I'd recommend drinking some chicken broth to get rid of the headache, as well as eating more fat and protein.
-
This seems ridiculous. As long as you get enough protein in your diet you won't lose much muscle eating under BMR.

I joined MFP last year but have only started using it in earnest the last couple of weeks. At the same time I rededicated myself to a keto diet after a few months off during which I gained about 20lbs back. I'm just about done with that 20lbs and looking forward to moving into uncharted territory. Name: Drew Reddit…

Quest bars are the best IMO. All the flavors taste pretty good (PBJ is my favorite) but most importantly they aren't loaded with sugar/carbs. Tons of fiber and protein.
