From experience I can tell you that you'll want to take it slow and also be ready to adapt and adjust. When I was dropping weight, I started at 1200 cal/day, as I got closer to my goal I upped it to 1500/day then 1800/day and once I got to my goal I leveled off at my TDEE. However, what I found is that when I got to my…

Awesome post!! It amazes me how many people (men and women alike) are still afraid to get down and really lift heavy. I too have see great improvement in running speed, general strength, improved appearance and improved self confidence. I'll also add a few more of my own if you don't mind: Heavy lifting has... Eliminated…

Don't know what their tax rate is but their dollar is stronger than the US. BTW for the folks that wanted to politicize this discussion, do you know what country is consistently rated as having the best Health Care system in the world? Answer: Israel. The US System is actually far behind, our life expectancy isn't even in…

If nothing else, mixing it up and doing different variations can be helpful even to the average person just in that it helps prevent boredom. Personally, I get really bored with doing the same lifts workout after workout. Changing things up and doing them differently helps keep me more interested and therefore more…

Without knowing your height and weight, I'll generalize and say about 45-60 minutes of any traditional cardio activity at a level of effort that gets your heart up to at least 60-70% of your theoretical max heart rate.

I'll list a few: "Minimize carbs, carbs make you fat" "You need 100oz a day of pure water, no other fluids will do" "Eat more spicy foods, they help lose weight" - Thank you Dr. *quack* Oz.

I couldn't agree more!!

As others have mentioned, in the last few reps of a set I may let out a bit of a grunt. Just a natural sound of struggling to get the weight up one more time. Not like one of these guys who try to yell as loud as they can because they seem to think it will help them lift.

Strangely enough, the same ones that work for men *SARCASM* Seriously there is no difference between what works for men and for women to work a particular muscle group. Curls and their many variations will isolate the biceps the easiest. Search for Bicep Curls on google and you'll find lots of options. Choose a few that…

Yeah like me, I do squats at PF so what of it? Oh and I do use the "Tampon pad" as the author referred to it, although with much higher weights than he suggested (a few 45's per side to be sure) ;)

During the off-season from Soccer, I lift 6 days a week. I break up my days into a 2-day split (Upper Body one day, abs, back and legs the other). Within those splits I break it down further and turn each into a 3 day split. For Upper Body I'll focus on biceps and triceps one day, pecs the next and shoulders the third. I…

Loved everything about the article except for the *kitten* constantly ripping on Planet Fitness dammit. LOL actually after a year and a half of being a member and seeing how the majority of people there "work out", I totally get why PF is his target example. :)

I was good up until the one handed stuff. My guess is I could probably do them but I've never tried. I'm not totally sure I have the balance for that. :)

I'm going to go along with the answer of: You've not provided us enough information to answer your question. You have to decide what you want to get out of a gym. If all you need/want is some weight and cardio equipment, then go with Anytime. The fact that you can workout 24 hrs a day and they're less crowded is a huge…

The biggest difference I've ever seen between cages is that some of the cheaper ones will develop a flex at the joints which will allow the whole rack to sway side-to-side a little. Check one out in a store and as long as that's not an issue with the model you're looking at you should be fine. The pic above looks like an…

I won't read or watch anything that got a title like "5 Foods Never To Eat". I've lost 35 pounds have gotten seriously healthy and fit and I haven't had to give up a single food. It's all about macros for me. As long as I'm fitting my diet into my calorie and macro-nutrient goals, I can eat whatever I want. I think it's…

Honestly, do what you're comfortable with. You're not going to prevent your body from processing the food just because you eat more of it. A good meal after a workout is a good thing.

Yeah man, I'll jump in and shoot you an add. I'm on MFP almost every day. You just gotta tell me about life up in Kodiak sometime. Make me feel better about how freakin' cold it is here right now.

I gotta agree with the OP on this. We just got our first box today and OMG the things are amazing. I didn't think any bar no matter how good could ever supplant the Fortifx Caramel Peanut bars as my favorite, but I've been proven wrong. These taste awesome and the protein to calorie ratio is much better than the Fortifx…

I agree with you about the general education value of his show yes, but I don't agree with your grade for this reason. As much good as he may do by making complex concepts about our body easy to understand, he undoes all of that by embracing the idea of the "magic answer". The idea that you can eat this magical food or…

Cliff Notes: Lots of quotes from his peers and colleagues saying he's a qualified surgeon but latches on too easily to "alternative" medicines that not even he himself can back-up with any evidence. He's done it both in his TV and his surgical career. Had one employer who had to tell him to drop an alternative approach…

Yes as mentioned if you're following MFP's functionality, its calorie calculations are setup based on the expectation that you "Eat back" your exercise calories. Regarding eating after a workout specifically, there many that would recommend you eat something after a workout. The suggestion is that this helps fuel your…

Much appreciated, thanks.

Sorry realized I forgot to include height and weight. 5'10". 160 lbs.

Just further support for the concept of IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros). Honestly, since starting my healthier lifestyle 18 months ago I've been using this concept. I've not given up any foods (especially not chocolate - Hell No). I just make sure I hit my calorie goal everyday and try to stay pretty close on my macros…

Here, let me help. Here you can find actual peer reviewed sources (not just some random google search). You'll notice that some studies point to how milk helps prevent cancer and there are some that postulate a link between milk and certain cancers. The funny thing is if you actually read the articles, very few found any…

For the record, there are ways to eat drive-thru every night and still lose weight. It's all about finding the right foods at the right places and sticking to that. I've always got ideas if you're ever interested in some help finding healthy choices at fast food places.

OK What the hell here goes, I did side and front just to make sure you've got everything you need. Thanks in advance for your opinions!! Unflexed Front: Flexed Front: UnFlexed Side: Flexed Side:

Thanks for the links, I hadn't found the accuracy thread in my search so much appreciated. I have been debating whether to post pics on the visual estimates thread, after reading your other thread I think I just might have to post a few and get your opinions. Thx!!

" It is made from almonds and not from animal. so there is no fat etc in it. " - Pull from above for emphasis. Wah wah wah????? Um nuts, and in particular Almonds do contain fat. In fact they're a great source of many fatty acids. Indeed every brand of Almond Milk I'm aware of has fat in it and it's usually pretty…
