Skulpt Aim: Terrible experience, complete waste of money
Hey folks, don't know if any of you are considering purchasing a fitness tracker from Skulpt, but I thought I'd share my experience and allow you to make your own decisions from there. I bought a Skulpt Aim for my wife for Christmas this past year. First thing I noticed upon using it was that the measurements don't seem to…

Why do we get annoyed by Resolutionists
So there was another thread about gym newbies and as typical it degenerated into a discussion about "why the newbie hate". So rather than continue side tracking that thread, I felt like putting that up here as a separate discussion. I've asked myself this same question. Why is it the influx of new gym members at the start…

BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizza
Someone ask me in another thread to share this but rather than hijack that thread I figure this is a more appropriate place. 1 - Flat Out Light Wraps (Italian Herb) 4.5 Oz - Tyson's Grilled & Ready Chicken Breast Chunks 1/2 cup (56g) - Sargento Reduced Fat 4 Cheese Mexican Shredded Cheese 2 Tbsp - Sweet Baby Ray's Original…

Tendonitis resulting from Bicep Curls
Hey guys, I'm looking for some suggestions on form here regarding Bicep curls. Seems stupid and basic to be asking, I mean I have been lifting since high school and understand the idea of keeping your elbows in and stationary, squeezing the bicep at the top of the movement, etc. However, what I seem to have a problem with…

The real Dr. Oz
Great piece by the New Yorker that takes a long hard look at Dr. Oz's practices both as a surgeon and as Dr. Oz on his TV show. It's a long read but well worth it. If you watch his show and try to follow his ideas and methods for weight loss you definitely should take the time to read and understand this.…

Difference between Calipers and Impedance BF% Measurements
I'm looking for people's experiences with the differences between measuring BF% with calipers versus bioelectrical impedance instruments. I ask because for months I've been using calipers to do 3 and 7 site tests. Currently by that method I'm right around 9% BF. However recently my wife got a FitBit Aria scale which has…

Am I the only one that feels this way??
In the past few days I've seen a number of different articles bashing the show "Biggest Loser" for various reasons. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they villainize the show as some evil plot against humanity. I've seen some that suggest the show causes increases in anti-obesity sentiment in society.…

GoFit Elite Articulated Grip Weightlifting Gloves?
Has anyone bought and used these gloves? I got a pair Monday night and used them for the first time last night. In the third rep of my first exercise (bench press on a smith machine) the material that covers the padded areas in the palm of the right glove started disintegrating. By the end of my workout I had a few very…

Really just tired of the lies....
Has anyone else noticed that the more controversial (and therefore usually most active) threads on these forums are the ones where people insist on speaking in absolutes and pushing their beliefs on everyone else? Are people on MFP really so ignorant or arrogant that they believe the only way to accomplish the goals that…

Seriously???
At the gym last night. Finish my workout and head to the locker room. Two high-school maybe college age guys who spent as much time out on the floor flexing in the mirrors as they did actually lifting are now in the locker room in their underwear flexing for each other. When they noticed I had come in they quickly stopped,…

Finally found a good "Before" pic (Warning - Underwear pic)
So I was going through some old pics on my computer, cleaning things up a bit and came across a picture that's a few years old but is still pretty representative of what I looked like before I began my journey into healthy living. So I took an after picture this morning to go along with it and below is the result.

Proper use of Weight Loss Supplements
So I think most here would agree that weight can be shed without the use of drugs, pills, potions, syrups, etc. Instead managing your diet and/or getting additional exercise will eventually lead you to the promised land. I'm one of many who has been successful in that regard. Dropped 34 pounds in 6 months and have been…

Appropriate Apparel at the Gym
So I've been noticing a trend at the gym lately of people wearing things that I wouldn't consider appropriate workout gear. Just last night for instance one guy was working in the free weights area in jeans and a polo shirt. Another guy in the same area had on pajama pants and a pair of Fila sandals. Now I'm one that…

Name that Lifting Exercise
OK Guys and Gals, I need some help on this one. One of my favorite weight exercises is something a trainer showed me years ago. I put it into my upper body workout at least once a week. However I have no freakin' idea what it's called and cannot locate it anywhere on the internet. I'm hoping one of the smart folk here can…

For all the Smith Machine haters out there
There's been a lot of bashing of Smith Machines on this board (and indeed in many body building circles as well) and while some of it may be legit, I personally think they've been made out to be a big evil device that they really are not. I've seen conflicting thoughts on this expressed in many outlets, but the one I've…

Navigating the Landmines - Eating healthy when eating out
OK, so someone mentioned this in another thread I posted and I like the idea. So here goes, I'm looking for ideas of people's favorite healthy (or at least not deadly) menu options at restaurants which typically have pretty unhealthy menus. Ideally, I'd like to see this become a comprehensive thread people can use as a…

Restaurant Shame List
Is there one here on MFP or anywhere else? I think we need one. I'm thinking a list of chain restaurants that should be publicly shamed (and their CEO's potentially Flogged) for their uncanny ability to take seemingly healthy foods and make them calorie laden, fat gorged dining enigmas from hell. If anyone else is…

Leg Press vs Squats vs ???
Hey guys, I've got a question about lifts that work your upper legs. Up to this point, my preference has been the leg press. My club has your typical leg press sled with free weights and I really like that the leg press gets your glutes, hamstrings and quads all involved pretty easily. I've typically shied away from Squats…

Experience with Creatine
Hey folks, a question for those that take creatine supplements (or at least have tried them). I've been trying to explain why after months of holding pretty steady at 161 pounds, over the last two weeks I've suddenly gained about 5 pounds. The only change I can think of is that I been trying out some samples of pre-workout…

Not only passed the test, I SMOKED IT!!!
As a referee, every year I have to pass a physical fitness test to renew my registration. Every year I've had to train to make sure my body was ready to go for this test. The test consists of 6 x 40m sprints in 6 sec or less following by intervals of 150m run followed by 50 meter walk. So last year they required us to do…

Pre-Workout Supplements?
I know these have been talked about on this board before (I know because I did search). I've got a question though, what is the point of them really and how beneficial are they to actually developing mass? Now I'm not talking about drinking a protein shake or getting a solid meal before a workout, that I get. I'm talking…

From 14" to 16" in a year
OK so now that I've hit one year on my lifestyle change I've been taking quite a few pics. Here's the latest. A nice side effect of my fitness program, my biceps have gone from 14" to 16" as seen here. Not a huge jump but I'm pretty happy with it :)

One year later (Before/After pic).....
Here you go folks, it's officially been a year since the photo on the left was taken. This picture was the straw that broke the camel's back and finally got me motivated to change my lifestyle and get healthier and more fit. The photo was taken at US Youth Soccer's Region II Championships in 2011. The photo on the right…

Seriously, I'm obsessed with my ankles
It sounds so bizarre but I realized tonight I'm really obsessed with my ankles as an indicator of my progress. Has anyone else noticed that definition in one's ankles can be a great indicator of fitness? Back in June, before I made my lifestyle change, I had cankles. Pretty much just very round and only a hint of the ankle…

Great protein bar alternative
Has anyone tried Power Pak Pudding for protein supplements? I had gotten a couple to try a while back and really liked them. I was at GNC tonight and they didn't have my regular protein bars but they had the pudding on a buy one get one half off, so what the heck. They are reall great, 30g of protein in only 190 cal. Also…

Anyone ever dealt with tennis elbow?
Ugh, so I don't know if it was a result of poor form or just over training but I've developed a pretty solid case of tennis elbow in my right arm. I'm sure it came from a lot of bicep and compound exercises I had been doing. So now the problem is I know I need to rest that area of my body, but how can I keep the rest of my…

Resolutionists at the gym?
So for those of you that are members at a gym, how bad is the resolutionist crowd right now (i.e. those folks who make a new years resolution and join the club). I know from past experience that January is always the busiest month at the club, especially up here in Wisconsin where January's arrival also means weather that…

How to determine fad from reality
I've seen so many posts on this forum about "Which is better, diet A or diet B" that I thought it important to point out some simple signs that you can see to determine what is fad and what is fact when considering options for modifying your diet. There are a couple of key indicators that make it clear you should be…

Into the single digits!!
Today I broke out the calipers again and did my BF% measurement. According to the AccuMeasure chart, I have officially reached the single digits on body fat %. My goal was 9% and I'm pretty much there (the ranges from AccuMeasure are a bit too wide to know exactly where I'm at but 6-7mm is charted as 9.7%). So to recap, I…
