Many of my workouts burn 850-1200 cals in 45-60mins, but my avg hr today for example was 184 for a 45 min workout and I stayed near max 40:29 according to the Polar app that works with my HRM which gave my 987 cals burned. I use my HRM to make sure I'm staying within my target zone which is 85-90% of max.

I'm somewhat interested in the need to track heartrate all day and sleep on a consistent basis. Is this just to find out where you're at or to track calories burned?

I believe they overreport. Most cardio involves using many more muscle groups than weight lifting.

I have a Polar H7 HRM that works great. It connects to my iPhone and also syncs with the gym equipment automatically when I get on the machine. I think the Polar or Wahoo are more accurate than something like a FitBit because they actually measure your heart-rate not just how much you're moving.
