  • Oh, as for me starting over, I'll go with today's numbers: SW: 311 GW: 200 My finish line is a lot farther than some of you :) Also my goal is fasting glucose of 90. Right now it's 105-130.
  • I'm re-starting here with new issues -- seemingly insulin resistance, or blood sugar that stays too high all the time. This is preventing me from losing weight. I'm strongly considering the 16:8 (12:00pm to 8:00pm eating window). TBH, I really don't strongly crave breakfast. I could get by on black coffee, which I think…
  • Well, my heart rate is fairly normal between 72 and 85, usually around 80. It could be lower if I were in better physical shape, I guess, but everything I read online says 60-100 is normal. My systolic (top number) is falling in the same range as it has for as long as I can remember (120-130), but the bottom number has…
  • I'm working on it, but the thinking about the high BP actually creates more stress/anxiety, so it's a vicious cycle. I woke up this morning feeling calm, probably had normal BP, then instantly began to think about my BP and I felt the anxiety rise up. By the time I got to my BP cuff to check it it was up to the same high…
  • Thanks for the input. I went to the doc. I'm now on a low dose of BP med (says takes a week to take effect) a long term anxiety med, and an incidental anxiety med as needed (that one not to be taken all the time). After just one dose, no change in BP except when on the Ativan. On Ativan, while at rest at home, it drops to…

  • Yeah, I googled it, but still don't get why anyone would use that terminology. Just say the number of pounds. No remainder necessary

  • No idea what weight a "stone" is, but I don't do cheat days. I think you can do a "cheat meal" now and then, but if you just blow off the whole day you can easily reverse progress for a whole week.

  • My recent love is craft beer and it definitely interrupts, if not entirely counteracts, weight loss efforts. Typically a good high ABV craft beer is going to be 250 calories or so, as compared with say 100 calories for a Coors Light. The good news is I can usually just drink ONE good craft beer vs. at least 2 regular light…
  • I've gone up and down, but I'm still down from a high of at least 365 measured in a doctor's office (IMO I was at least 380lbs at an earlier age, but I literally couldn't find a scale at the time that could weigh me, including the doctor's). I've gained 20lbs over the past few months and need to take that back, plus get…
  • My wife isn't yet 40 and has osteoarthritis in all of her joints. I'll follow this thread for any recommendations for her... she's also working on losing weight.
  • Are you talking about long-term or immediate solution? Immediate solution: Miralax.... it's literally a miracle substance. Take a full dose in the evening and you'll be much relieved by morning of the next day. Long-term solution? Eat more fiber and, honestly, more fat. People don't realize how much fat helps things, well,…
  • We all need accountability. If you've expressed to him that you want to eat better, then he's trying to help you achieve that. A good friend or spouse will tell you the truth, even if you don't like it. A fake friend or poor spouse will lie to you and let you hear what you want. Every day cannot be a cheat day or you'll…
  • 80% of weight loss is what you eat. If you really have no time for exercise, you can lose 80% as much as someone who also exercises.... but walking should be enough exercise for pure weight loss, as some have suggested. Lifting weights and running on the treadmill is just Biggest Loser stuff, but it isn't necessary for…
  • 1000 calories is probably too low for a man except in certain situations. You don't look morbidly obese in your photo, so I'm guessing it's too low.
  • Go with what works. Sometimes something works great for a while, then you have to change it up. Ultra-low carb diets tend to have a shelf life, because at a certain point you become ravenous for a piece of freakin' bread. :) If you hit that point, you may have to adjust. If it works for you, though, don't change yet.
  • I'm going to piggy back on your thread here, because my wife and I are INFORMALLY doing the Quick Weight Loss Center eating plan. I've done it in the past, paid them, but didn't stick with it. I could probably go back, but they want to sell supplements and snacks, which I can find much cheaper elsewhere. Question: How do…
  • The nicer ones function as basic smartwatches. Your text messages come through and you get a vibration to know you got one. Great for those of us who cannot leave our phones on audible during the work day.
  • Pretty much anyone should be losing weight eating only 1200 calories a day and working out. In fact, you may not be eating enough. If your workout burned calories take your total calories too low, your body can go into a sort of defensive mode where it tries to keep excess "fuel" (that body fat you don't want). It might be…
  • Lift weights. Burns significantly more calories than cardio. Cardio is just torture.
  • Over the counter "diet" pills are worthless garbage. They're a hole you throw money down and they do nothing. There USED TO BE supplements that really worked, they were "stackers" which used ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin. They were extremely effective. They are no longer available in the U.S. (you can get them in Canada…
  • "Cheat" days are counterproductive, no matter what. I'm not saying I don't have them. We had a "cheat meal" for Valentine's day. Not a day, just one meal. Nonetheless, I gained weight, as expected. I think it depends on how serious you are and whether or not this is a lifestyle change or you're going to get to goal and go…
  • My original goal was over 100lbs as well. Actually more like 150, but at 100lbs I'm having a huge blow-out party to celebrate progress..... a healthy eating party of course. I've lost and gained (yo-yo), but each time I gain less than I lose, so I guess that's a win. Officially down 68lbs, but if I look back at my…
  • I totally understand what you mean. Growing up obese, I always at least had "well, I'm a BIG guy" going for me... I mean, nobody ever really tried to fight me (a 300lb 9th grader is formidable, even if not muscular)... I'm still 6'+ in height, but even at my current weight (about 78lbs until I reach goal!), parts of me…
  • What's the story with this thread/group? I'm 40, which I hate to admit (I liked 30-something), and always looking for encouraging people doing great things at our age :P Is 40 really the new 30?
  • People who complain that diet soda is "bad for you" have no actual specific information to back that up.... Even more ridiculous that "carobonated beverages" are bad for you. What part of "it's just air...." is unclear? The notion that aspartame is a problem is refuted by numerous scientific studies to the contrary. In…
  • Donuts. Eat donuts.
  • I'm nowhere near goal, yet, but even with my current level of weight loss, I sometimes am surprised at how different an "overweight" person is treated from an "obese" person. Technically, by weight/body fat I'm still "obese," but before I was "that guy.... 365lbs wasn't so long ago, in fact (MFP doesn't even know about…
  • I hadn't previously heard of the "refeed" concept... I do occasionally (rarely) have a "cheat meal," (not a full day, just one meal), but I usually feel gross afterward, so I avoid it.
  • Thanks all. Anyway, I'm down slightly today. I should be in good shape after eating good the rest of this week and getting adequate sleep on Saturday (I tend to lose weight when I sleep 8-10 hours).
