Fit bit and fear?
just an odd thought I had after walking back from lunch. Fitbit surge and similiar adjust you mfp based on heart rate. Increased heart rate having a positive correlation to calories burned during exercise etc But fear also increases your heat rate. Has anyone noticed their estimated burn during exercise or for the day was…

Body fat percentage?
hey guys What is considered a good body fat percentage for a guy? I am sure I read that 12-17 is for athletes and 17-23 is average, then obese etc So bare with me here, I realise that these body fat % tests like calipers and scales are a bit of a rough estimate. But say I'm 112 kg, and according to scales my both fat is…

Blinking to focus weight loss to eye area?
I was looking in the mirror earlier and noticed something. I am losing weight all over my body but no visible change in my eye lids or eyebrow area. My eyes are fat, they are pushing my eye lashes down so I look like a camel or if I was female I probably have eye lashes to die for. Has anyone heard of an exercise to firm…

Curious about heart rates
So since fit bits and every other device with heart rate monitoring seem fairly common, I was curious about people's heart rates. What's the highest, lowest and resting heart rates you have recorded in a fit bit or exercise machine or even just fingers on your wrist. Highest: 140-150 Bpm Lowest 33-36 bpm Resting 44-45 bpm

Exercise app for iPhone
so I like excel, if I could bring it with me to the gym I would be set. But instead I was wondering if anyone knows of an app, doesn't have to link to mfp etc An app that works something along the lines of you set up days, in these days you set up exercises with basic details like reps sets weight. But for weight it…

Am I the only one...?
what are odd foods that you think your the only one to eat it. Be it unique preparation, lack of prep, combination of flavours or textures. For me, I enjoy frozen mint peas, I am yet to find anyone else who eats them. When I say frozen I mean I eat them frozen. Like cold minty popcorn. So do you have an odd or unique food?

What's the deal with meal replacement shakes?
so I have lost 30+kg with out even considering these shakes. My brother bought some, I gave one a go for breakfast. They seemed pretty ok. Flavour ok, kept me full as if I had my regular breakfast. Taking 1 min to prepare is a plus. So what's the downside of replacing one or two meals a day with these shakes? What should…

Not wearing fit bit?
so hopefully a simple question. With the fit bit adjustment in my fitness pal being based on cal burned so far, extrapolated out to energy burned for the day. What happens if you don't wear the fit bit? Does it count you cal burned at your resting rate? Count cal burned at zero? For example you go for a swim for 30 mins…

Can someone explain a cheat day
My understanding is one day a week or month you just eat what you want as In not count calories etc. From the sounds of it this seems like a gateway to undoing all your weeks work. Are you meant to just relax a bit and maybe eat to maintenance or a bit over? Or is a cheat day all about eating as much as you like and not…

Stupid questions incoming *alert*
TGIF! Ok so the information I hear seems to be like this. Calorie deficit=weight loss Calorie at maintenance=stable weight Calorie surplus=gain weight Calorie deficit=can't gain muscles So if your trying to gain muscles are you forced to walk a tightrope to maintain your weight? Or do you have to be in a slight surplus as…

Scars and muscle growth
this might be a little vague. How is muscles growth of strength affected by deep wounds or surgery. I have had surgery ages ago, got a large deep scar on my shoulder blade, another down the centre of my chest. As far as I'm aware these are scars that go all the way through as in muscles were split apart, not just the skin.…

Oils ain't oils-cooking question
i don't use oil in cooking often, noticed I have used it more recently and got me thinking. When I use oil to cook how much do I actually eat. Say I'm frying up some blue grenadier and add 1 tablespoon of vegtable oil to the frying pan. How much of that 1 tablespoon of oil do I actually end up eating? Some I'm sure is on…

Ideal weight calc
hey Anyone got a link to a calculator for ideal healthy weight? All the ones I can find take into account your height but then have a disclaimer saying your race, sex, skeleton, political leaning can affect your healthy weight and then give a range of about 20kg. Any one got a calculator that does more than your height?…

Share your regrets
share your weight loss regrets so others might avoid the same mistakes. For me I guess my biggest regret is not starting to eat better/lose weight when I was 15, 20 or 25, leaving for so long. And not taking photos. I have very few photos, I wish that I took some when I started. But I guess I thought I would stick to it…

The golden ratio-opposing muscles
at the moment I'm more focused on weight loss and attempting to maintain the puny muscles I have. But I thought about this and was curious. Are there generally accepted ratio for health when it comes to muscle strength. What I mean is say I can do a 20kg bicep curl I should be able to do 15kg with my triceps. Similar for…

Weigh yourself several time
anyone else find they have to weigh themselves several times to get to the answer? I find I need about 5-6 weighs to get to a number consistently. Like I change my foot placement slightly, the positioning on the floor. I do this till I get a number 3 times. Do my scales suck? I'm not talking a fraction of a kilo. It swings…

Eating back exercise done
so maybe I just haven't notice before but today I have seen 4-6 mentions of eating back the calories you have burned exercising. Can someone explain this idea to me? To me it makes sense if you were trying to gain or maintain weight but not if your losing weight. Say for example you eat x y and z to reach your energy limit…

Exercise machine cal burned totals
how accurate in general are treadmills, elliptical, stationary bikes calorie counters. Say I'm on a treadmill, I enter my weight and after 20 mins it saying I have burnt 240 calories. Is this number likely to be accurate. I am not fussed over 10-15cal but if in reality I only burned 180 then I can see that being an issue.…

Muscles and weight loss
I have looked around and seem to be no closer to an answer. So I'm losing weight, and 1kg a week on average, now is it actually possible to gain muscles while losing weight? Alcholic drinks, christmas and not being a downer

Strength cal or KJ burned app
Anyone know of an app for iphone that gives some indication of energy burned from lifting weights/strength training? I realise that its a little difficult to work this out because there are a few variables. But all I'm after is an estimate really. Low KJ days
So hey all I had a look around but I can't seem to find an answer to this question. Basically some days I dont eat many KJ, not starving my self. Just wondering what, if any, are the downsides or issues with this. The searches I have done all seem to end up in posts about starvation mode being a myth. So can anyone give me…
