Suddenly fit bit

so came home from work to find a Fitbit surge waiting by my pc, a late Christmas present from my mum.
I am unsure what to do with it lol. Do I just wear it like a It gives me details I can use to help exercise?
Any tips would be help ful. Can it take a punch or kick it should I not wear it at kickboxing?

Wow, what an amazing (and expensive) gift!
How to use: you wear it 24/7 and it will tell you how many cals you burn throughout the day. It also has features like Heart rate. You can wear it for anything (except swimming). If you find it records too many steps do to hand movement, you can always take it off (or override by manually entering exercise for that time period).0 -
Wow thank your mom for that expense gift! I have a fitbit one and I love it. Go to fit bits website and look for the dashboard setup. I like the way it tracks stuff. You can win badges too which is fun.0

Ohhh I love my Fitbit Charge HR! Check out the site. The App will have a link to a FitBit 101 link which gives you a rundown, and when you install the app, or set it up on your PC it will give you a run through.0

I bought the Charge HR last week and all my lit says it is splash proof only, you cant shower with it.....you can the surge I THINK............check that out first.....but deffo not with the HR...

Yeah, actually I think you're right, it may have been the surge I was thinking of. I certainly don't risk getting mine more than splashed doing the dishes or whatnot, probably for good reason.0 -

I've recently bought the Charge HR, which also tracks heart rate.
I just set my MFP activity level back to sedentary and let it automatically adjust for both exercise sessions and calorie-burn from general walking around. Once it's properly set up, it'll auto add-in exercise calories.
I think the steps are relatively accurate, but it struggles with very high heart rates - I've been comparing with a chest HR monitor at the gym and it's usually at (e.g.) 160 when it should be 180. Hopefully that just means the burn will be on the conservative side - which is no bad thing.
I've found it improves if you put on the loosest notch and push as far up your arm as possible for a workout, then wear like a watch for everyday use.
I like the online dashboard and 'gamification' elements - I've definitely done more stairs since getting it to watch my score go up!

my resting heart rate according to this fit bit is 45. it was 45 last night when i was sitting on my computer. got down to 37 while i was sleeping.
im either super fit or something is wrong. might ask a cardiologist. oh lucky me i have an appointment next week.0 -
There are groups on here for Fitbit users that you can join to get support from people.

Yeah I'm not worried about it. It's been 40ish for weeks now. I just happened to check my pulse the other week at work and got 44ish.
If I had any of the symptoms I would be more concerned.
But I will mention it to my cardiologist next week. Just happened to have an appointment. Convenient.0 -
I have a flex. For a while I wore it even in the shower and it never broke but I've decided why tempt fate. I think heavy sweat is no big deal I used to just take it off and dry it of before my post workout shower.
I'm sure if your heart rate was an issue your doctor would not be okay with you exercising....so I wouldn't be too worried. I'd still ask though.0 -
