Living the lifestyle - late edition for 12/8/2017
We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice. This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight…

Goal weight... Decisions decisions.
Weigh in this morning was a pleasant surprise... and it got me (re) thinking my weight goals. My original goal was 160, and I'm now at 162. At some point, I decided to drop my goal to 150 because I thought it would help with speed. I'm now down to ~15% BF based on measurements and mirror - and at this point I'm probably…

Black Belt - Destination, milestone or pivot point?
If you are on the journey to Black Belt (or your art's equivalent), do you see it as an end goal? (i.e when I get black belt, that's the best I can hope for, so I'll probably go join a Zumba class) Or maybe it is a pivot point? (When I get Black Belt, I'm going to change to a different Martial art!) Or... just a milestone?…

Negative comments
I got my first negative comment about weight loss today ... from my stepdaughter, who looked at me with a slightly disgusted look and said "You're getting skinny! Why don't you get some muscles or something." I have a naturally slight build... my bone structure is thin, and I have to get to a fairly low weight before my BF…

Mat chats
Does your school participate in "mat chat"? That is, do you have a time at the end of class when the class or instructor talks about things? Most often during end-of-class stretching. If so, what topics have you enjoyed? Any fun/cool stories to relate?

Safety gear - good or bad?
A recent thread diverged into face masks for sparring, and I thought it would be a good topic in it's own right. When I started, dipped foam was still new, and there were a lot of instructors who did not allow it in their schools, and there were still some tournaments that were 100% gear free. Since that time, there has…

Group News and Events
Hey everyone, I just added our first "group event" - and though I am probably the only one going to this one, I figured we could give it a shot to start announcing upcoming tests/tournaments/seminars/etc that our members are attending. Pro vs. Con game: Practicing at home
