Asthmatic Runners - help needed!
So I'm new to running. I'm running outdoors and following a training program with the plan of running a 10k in May. I'm really struggling with the weather and my asthma at the moment. I can only run early morning or late evening, and at the moment, it's cold. The cold air is making it really difficult despite being on the…

Trochanteric bursitis
So after a few months of pain/discomfort in my left hip, a couple of X-rays and general poking and prodding, it looks like I probably have trochanteric bursitis. My GP has referred me to a physiotherapist but it's likely to be quite a wait (few months even) before I see someone. My GP has told me to carry on as I am…

Inexplicable hypertension - loose skin to blame?
I'm largely just thinking out loud as I have no one to bounce ideas off right now (and the dog couldn't care less...) For the last 6 months or so, I've been having the typical symptoms of low blood pressure. It's so bad now that I can't even stretch without feeling light headed, never mind stand up or bend over quickly. I…

(Very) novice runner - hip pain - uneven gait
I'm a very novice runner - I've been twice so far! After the first time, I had a bit of discomfort in my left hip. It didn't start until the day after and I actually thought that I'd pulled something after repeatedly throwing my dogs new favourite toy on a walk. Yesterday I did run number 2 and the hip pain started up…

I just have to tell someone...clothes shopping success!
For the first time in my adult life, I went into a standard high street store, and purchased clothes (top and bottom!) in the standard section!! No more specialist plus sized retailers for me!

Let's talk about loose skin
As the title suggests really! When I started out losing weight, I hadn't anticipated the loose skin problem. I've either lost enough now that it's just becoming apparent, or maybe I've just started actually looking at my body. I've lost a reasonable amount, but I still have a way to go, so it's only going to get worse. My…

Talk to me about DOMS (1001 questions...!)
So maybe 1001 questions is a little exaggeration! I am currently experiencing what I assume is my first real DOMS. I've been a bit achy after a trip to the gym before, but this is like nothing I've ever experienced! On Monday evening, I attended my first kettlebells class. As a little background, other than the occasional…

Goal weight - how do you decide?
How do you decide what your goal weight is? I've been gradually shrinking since January 2014. I'm a 6'0" female of I'd say large/broad build (I have quite broad shoulders and wide hips). I started out at 25st 6lbs (356lbs) and am currently 17st (238lbs). I've always said that my initial goal will be 15st/210lbs (which I…

Spinning - what to expect?
I'm going to a spin class at 8pm on Wednesday. I've never been spinning before. I've never even been to a group exercise class before! What should I expect? I'm fully expecting to die. I'm going to have an ambulance on standby for 8:05pm!

Fitbit not syncing with MFP?
Wasn't sure where to post this... Has anyone else had any issues with their fitbit syncing with MFP? I've not changed any settings or anything, but previously it would give me a calorie burn for my steps, but the last few days - nothing - although it is showing the same step count as my fitbit. Any ideas?!

Strength/resistance training - increasing the weight?
I'm new to the whole exercise thing. I've been going to the gym for a few weeks now, and have had a program put together for me on the resistance machine thingies. My question is, how do I know when it's time to increase the weight? To begin with, I really felt it across my pectorals and in my legs the day after, but now,…

postural changes as a result of weight loss?
I've been losing weight for a while now, and I'm just over halfway to my target weight, having lost in the region of 95lbs. Life is good, I'm eating good foods, I've got more energy, I'm exercising regularly...but I spend a lot of my time with various aches (mainly back and shoulders) and I'm pretty certain it's due to…

Logging exercise
What's the best (most accurate?) way to log activity using MFP? I use a heart rate monitor which gives me a calorie count for each work out. Am I right in thinking that if I burn X amount of calories cycling in 30 minutes, I should track it as whatever duration of cycling that MFP thinks burns that many calories? What do…

New here - and new to exercise!
Hello :) I've been using MFP for weight loss since August 2014 and all is going swimmingly (excuse the pun!). Prior to that I was following the weight watchers plan, but got bored of calculating points and was gaining weight again. I downloaded MFP in desperation one night, and haven't looked back since! My weight loss…
