Blood sugar feels like its dropping when I tell myself I'm going on a strict diet
I was lagging behind on tallying up my yealy budget spreadsheet. When I saw how much I've overspent on my hobby, I said to myself I'd go on a mostly beans and rice diet. No fruit or veg over 99cents a pound. Spices, oil, and vitamins included. Occasional boxed luxury items must be 99 cents a box and provide at least 1k…

1200 calories: How does that work?
You can't get calories exact, but you can't go below 1200. So do you have days where its like 1151 for one, then 1245 the next? Do you do 1200-1299? I feel like its a stupid question but I was wondering about it today.

Protein Bars and Sales Tax (US)
I found a new flavor of Pure Protein bars (Birthday Cake) when picking up a prescription at Walmart and had to get a box. I was surprised to see the bars were taxed like junk food. These have 20g protein and only 3g sugar, which sounds more like food macros to me. I went on a search online and found sales tax on foods…

Warning: Use "canned, drained usda" entries for your canned bean recipes
I was splitting canned garbanzo beans into 2 meal prep containers by the gram and found that there were only 2 servings by weight and calories instead of 3.5. I know packaged foods have to be within 20% of their nutrition facts label, so this was too much of a variance. I had a hunch and searched "usda canned drained…

Leaving calories at maintenance, but leaving significant 'green' calorie amounts
I discovered MFP around my last 15lbs. I was set to maintenance but I'd make a game of leaving 150-300 remaining ('green') calories left. It took me a while, but I ended up losing those 15lbs. My total calories did adjust as I lost, but my 150-300 remaing goal stayed the same. Did/does anyone else lose this way? I liked it…

BMI vs BF%: where is the true under/overweight marker?
I hear people complain that body fat percentage is the best way to measure health. So lets take some woman I know that is about an 18.2 BMI but is 18.5% BF. She does 70% cardio, 30% bodyweight exercises mixed with actual weights. If she gains to 101.5lbs, she is now slightly in the normal range but hits just over 20% BF…

Difficulty finding seasonal protein junk food
I don't know if its me but I am having issues locating holiday flavored protein junk food. Of so many brands and flavors (Quest bars, ThinkThin bars, Halo Top, Lenny and Larry's), I've only managed to find Pumpkin Pie Halo Top once. And I went to a far away grocery store for it to check in hopes. Are the rest of you having…

Grocery budget is supposed to be $100 a month per person?
I've heard elsewhere multiple times that its "easy" to live off $100 a month for groceries. This was after I patted myself on the back for eating below the food stamps max allotment for 2, which is $357 a month. So of course I felt like I was a super overspender after that. I did math for months on and off, and found I…

What's the maximum permissible calorie deficit allowed per day at a low weight?
I'm two pounds above my usual weight. I was looking at my deficit and it was around 700. I've eaten 1300 calories today, so its not like I've gone below 1200. I work an active job and then work out for 1-1.5 hours a day. Walking (Pokemon Go) with 20-30 mins bodyweight weight exercises. So I'm wondering: is it really that…

Uses for Google Fit?
I had been using Runtastic for adding workouts. I tried to run it when I swapped my exercise to Pokemon Go walking and running, but it'd freeze, so nothing would be tracked. I heard of Google Fit, and it worked without freezing Pokemon Go. I decided to try and sync it with MFP, and Google Fit picked up MPF nutrition…

Food Stamps Challenge & Calorie Counting
Has anyone tried the food stamps challenge while calorie counting? Its were you eat for about $4.19 a day. I tried and failed by about $10/person in this household even using some old food, and am going to retry next month. Also aiming to get 0.8g protein/lb. Its definitely not easy. If you did, how did that go for you?…

Losing at Maintenance & TDEE Calories
I joined MFP when I got a fitness wearable that could sync up with it. I'm already at maintenance so I figured I could use it to watch my macros. But even in maintenance, I was losing very slowly. Now that I have numbers to look at, I've noticed I've been netting average around 1500-1550 cals a day. I do eat back some…

Mostly Beans and Rice Diet
I'd like to know the effects of eating a beans and rice diet over a lifetime. The meal would consist of these ingredients 4 of 5 days a week: * pinto beans ($6 for 10lbs bag) * white rice ($9 for 25lb bag) * ground beef (80/20, 2.5oz per day max) * beef bouillon * garlic * white onion * red/yellow/orange peppers * spices…

Is Sugar our Biggest Diet Breaker?
Doctors say a new study provides 'the strongest evidence to date' that sugar causes health risks, regardless of whether it increases calorie intake Diet's Composition: "The diet overall had the same fat, protein, carbohydrate, and calorie levels as their previous diets at home, with the carbohydrate from sugar replaced by…
