What is the ideal maximum calorie deficit to lose fat and not enter the muscle loss level?

This is probably one of the most debated topic. I've seen multiple arguments opposing each other and this just confuses me. My question is: When does the body start using muscle as a source of energy? What factors affect this? (ex. calorie intake, calorie deficit, cardiovascular/strength training?).

Hi, I just downloaded this app and I was wondering if there's a way to calculate the calories burnt during exercise on this app when adding a particular exercise to your diary. (Example: barbell bench press/80kg/3 sets/8 reps)
