Pulmonary embolism - how to not lose my exercise habits?
A year ago, I underwent a double-bypass. I took it as the wake up call it was, lost weight (85 lbs as of this morning) through good ol' diet and exercise, and have been in maintenance for over 2 months. On the one-year anniversary of the surgery (last Wednesday), I went to the ER for chest pains. Heart was fine. Yesterday,…

Practical exercise uses.
Ever wonder what real-world uses some exercises could be put to? I found one today: the movements required to slam a medicine ball to the floor, then catch it to repeat the slam are essentially the same as using a rock bar to break up sandstone in a hole in the ground. :D I found this out while preparing a planting hole in…

A good start!
On July 22 I was released from the hospital after bypass surgery. On July 23 I stepped on the scales and saw 283.5 lbs. This morning, 8 weeks and 4 days later, scales read 254.4, for 29.1 lbs down! My goal is 215, which is less than I have weighed since puberty. I'm 6'6", 59 years young, and I've been tracking on MFP for…

So close I can taste it!
As of two days ago, my weight of 213.6 lbs is considered "normal"! I have been overweight or obese since Jr High, some 45 years ago, and I am still processing it in my head. I have 8.4 lbs to go to my goal weight of 205 (I'm 6'6"). So close...

Bad knees and running - good or bad?
I have been walking for cardio health, and just started (baby steps) jogging for short distances during my walks. I also have knees with half the cartilage already gone. About to turn 60 to boot. Will I be doing more damage to my knees by running? Not talking marathons, but maybe a 5k or two down the road. Wife says I…

Food measurement discrepancy.
Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (vanilla) seems to have an inaccuracy in the nutritional information regarding serving size. This is the 32 oz container. It says "serving size 1 cup (225 gr)". So for breakfast this morning I measured 1 level cup and decided to weigh it also. Came in at 300 gr. What the?.... So essentially I got…

New scale and weight difference.
After my bypass surgery in July, I've been weighing daily. In early August we got new digital scales, and in comparison side by side, the new scale weighed 3 pounds heavier than old one. Old only weighed in 0.5 lb increments; new in 0.1 lb increments. So in my log, should I adjust my initial weight by the 3 lb difference…

Newbie making a lifestyle change
Hi! I am just under 6 weeks past double bypass heart surgery, and am, along with my wife, in the midst of major change eating and exercise habits. It's challenging for 59 & 60 year-olds, but incentive for me is to get well and stay well. I am on my first full day of usimg MyFitnessPal. I also have a Fitbit Charge 2. Robert…
