Am I just replacing muscle with fat?
67 y.o. male, 5'10. I lost 20 pounds last year (first-time dieter) with MFP. BMI now 23. I'm at my target weight of 161. I have never done heavy weights, just resistance and body weight, spinning, walking, swimming. I've maintained my 20-pound loss. And, I'm doing a lot less exercise and no longer counting calories. I'm…

Goal accomplished - You can do it too!
Starting weight: 181 Ending weight: 160 Height: 5'10" Duration: 7 months My weight crept up from 160 to 180 over 15 years. So, I went on my first diet ever. I weighed myself daily though some of us prefer to do it less frequently. Note the weight variation of 2 to 4 pounds on a day to day basis, even though I weighed…

Sugar goal?
What’s a reasonable sugar goal in maintenance. Currently MFP says mine is 6,000+. Not sure if I accidentally changed it or what... but that seems enormous to me. No big deal; I’m in maintenance, but it bugs me seeing that big number in my goals! Age: 66 Ht: 5’10” Sendentary SW: 181 GW: 160 CW: 160

Credit for non-exercise steps on Apple Watch
I’m entering maintenance. I’ve set my activity level to not very active. Suppose my Apple Watch logs 3 non-workout miles. Why doesn’t MFP give me calorie “credit” in MFP for those (approximately) 169 calories? Second question: sometime MFP brings in an activity from my Apple Watch twice: once with a heart next to it. Of…

What does “Complete Diary” do?
I’ve always wondered, what does the “Complete Diary” function actually, you know, DO? Adding to that, just now, at -1 Calorie remaining for the day (and 0 calories activity) when I clicked to complete today’s diary, it said I’d lose 2.5 pounds in five weeks! How did it arrive at that number??! I expected it would say I’ll…

Science undecided of CICO?
I’m new to the dieting world. Now 66 years old, thin as a rail for my first 45 years. But my weight crept up over 15 years. I just lost 20 pounds (my first ever) and BMI is now 23. I know maintenance may be a new challenge. I’m a CICO zealot. BUT, reading the reader comments section on this NY Times article was an eye…

Is a calorie a calorie?
I'm a first time, short-time dieter, successful with CICO, somewhat of a fanatic (in a good way!) in fact. However, now and then I see things on the web by seemingly reputable sources that somewhat contradict CICO. http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/4-myths-nutritionists-wish-people-would-forget/ says: “Unfortunately, there is…

Searching for an analogy
I'm often frustrated to see friends and loved ones suffering from sloppy, hit-or-miss (mostly "miss") dieting, often characterized by them vaguely as "getting more exercise" and "portion control" or by some special, "magic" dietary formula. I'm a CICO fanatic. I've been trying to come up with an analogy for calorie…

Why IIFYM?
I'm sold on CICO. But IIFYM? I know it's not MFP, but I'm having trouble understanding WHY IIFYM promotes balance of macros so strongly. I've read a lot on their site but other than saying it was initially developed by body builders, and that they have thousands of customers, I didn't find anything that explains why macros…

Suggestions on body weight scale and trend lines?
I'm thinking of getting a digital scale, the Wahoo for my iPhone. I just want weight, not BMI or anything else from my scale. What exactly do any of these scales do in addition to displaying digital weight? Do they update MFP? Do I have to manually sync, or manually do the BT hookup every day when I weigh myself, or what?…

First steps!
OMG. This stuff actually works! ;) My doctor recently pointed out that my BMI was just above the accepted range. Trying to drop about 15 pounds from 181, up to which I crept over the past five or ten years. This is my first time ever dieting. I started a month ago. I'm 5'10, sedentary, 66 years old. Initially, I wanted to…

1,500 calories too little
The app is suggesting 1,500 calories/day for me to lose one pound per week (as a 5'10", 180 man, office working man.) Googling around, that seems to be considerably lower than what most sites say is reasonable. (e.g. link) Thoughts? Opinions? Has this been hashed out here before?
