Desk job for many years
I turned 50 years old this year. I've had a clerical desk job for the past 18 years. During those 18 years I've steadily gained 4 or 5 pounds each and every year. As a secretary in a school system, my last day of work before summer vacation is tomorrow. I normally use the summer to do a big cleaning of every room in my…

Clean plate club
I have a tendency to eat everything on my plate....even when I don't like the food that's on it. Example: I bought a cheesecake from a cute, trendy bakery near my home. This place was so CUTE and everything in the display cases looked absolutely scrumptious. The cheesecake was fairly large considering that it was meant to…

Seemingly too many calories to eat back
I’m puzzled about how the calculation works. Seems strange that MFP gives me over 700 calories to eat back for a measly 5000 steps. That can’t be right can it? Am I doing something wrong?

Vitamix owners
I’ve been wanting one for a few years now. I’d be thrilled with a Vitamix or a Blendtec. I currently use a $70 Ninja for my smoothies which I make several times per week. My Ninja works “okay” but man would I love to be able to get that super smooth smoothie consistently. My issue is that our kitchen is tiny and we don’t…

Before/After measurements and pictures
I'm upset with myself that I didn't think of documenting my pre-MFP measurements or even taking a "before" picture for comparison reasons. I asked my husband if he has a picture of me in his phone from before I started keeping track of my calories and he replied, "No....because you always yell at me for taking your picture…

Extra calories credited for steps from Fitbit
Hello. I've been using MyFitnessPal consistently for 15 days now. My Fitbit is set to automatically sync and I am not having difficulties with that. My question is that while the amount of steps seem accurate, MFP seems to give me an awful lot of extra calories in exchange for not so many steps. Example: My daily calorie…

Day 36, 11 pounds down so far....this is what I've learned so far...
1) I really do need to buy a food scale THIS weekend, I'm positive I'm getting my portion sizes wrong when logging. 2) It's difficult, but I do have the willpower to avoid indulging in workplace donuts, cookies, etc that so very tempting. 3) I'm gaining endurance and energy...I was SO sedentary, now I'm up to between 6000…

Well....I'm 25 days in. This is what I've learned so far...
1) I'm logging everything but I'm sure that I'm getting the portion sizes wrong at times. When I'm unsure I try to go over rather than under. Thinking about investing in a food scale. 2) I began wearing my Fitbit again and realized how horribly sedentary I'd become...many days as little as 2000 steps in an entire day. My…

How to log cooked meals
I made this Tunisian Rice recipe for dinner tonight. It was delicious. Now I have no idea how to log it. Do I add each ingredient then guesstimate how much of it I ate? Is there an easier/more accurate way? Ingredients 2 cups organic white basmati rice 1/3 cup olive oil 3 Tbsp tomato paste 1 pound (2 bunches) fresh organic…

Introduction: Getting serious in Michigan
Good morning. I've never SERIOUSLY tried to lose weight until 5 days ago. Last week my cardiologist instructed me that at 5'3" and 188 pounds, she wants be work toward getting down to 115 pounds but she'd consider it enough of a win if I could even get down to 150 pounds. For my health, I'm sure I can reach 150 pounds and…
