Couch calories?
We naturally burn calories, just sitting around. In ten minutes, I might burn 10-15 calories, just lying on the couch, scratching and yawning. So if I wear an HRM and burn, say, 250 calories in 30 minutes of real exercise, and I then go enter all of that in MFP, am I not adding in those automatic 30-45 'couch calories' as…

Are all burned calories equal?
So, I'm about six months into my fitness journey. I've got probably another 5-8 lbs to lose, and in truth, it is getting challenging. I have done mostly cardio so far, and my heart has gotten pretty strong, I guess. I have a very difficult time getting my heart rate up to burn calories now. If I spend 30 minutes on the…

Craving pals :)
I am not exactly new to MFP, but... I am now at a certain point were I've reached my goals and is looking to maintain more than anything. I don't have a lot of active friends on MFP and looking for more. My friend list is sparse and too quiet :-( Just curious to see if there are any people out there who are not…

Too much protein?
So, a while back I discovered the Gladiator smoothie. I really like having it as a lunch time snack, as it eliminates lots of sodium and keeps me full and has few calories and not any fat plus I get a bit more fruit in my diet thanks to the smoothie. However, now I find myself always going over on protein because it's…

Soreness?
After doing these pushups, are you guys sore at all? I find myself not being sore (even though I do get tired during the exercise), and I just want to do the next set the very next day instead of waiting. Should I perhaps switch to a higher 'level', or is soreness just not a necessity?

Why to get a heart rate monitor
So today I used my shiny new heart rate monitor for the first time. I have been exercising vigorously for the past five months and always relying on what the machines were telling me. I was really curious to see my actual calorie burn, since I've heard gym equipment can over-estimate your calorie burn. Well, oh, my gosh.…

Friend Failure
So... Today, I reached a major milestone in my weight loss. For over a year I've told myself, when I was below 165, I would reward myself with a tattoo. It has been the weight goal that I've had ever since I was overweight, and I've worked super hard to get there. Well... I have a close friend that means a lot to me. I…

Scared of strength training!
So, I have been at a terrible plateau for the past two months. From what I've gathered, I need to change my routine up and focus more on strength training than cardio. I do love to run and cycle and use the elliptical, but I don't think it's enough, no matter how hard I go. My issue is... I am kinda clueless as to what…

Help! Skin issues from working out?
A few days ago, I started to do more intense work outs than previously. Basically I went from 20-30 minutes of moderate cardio, to more interval cardio for longer periods of time. As a result, I've been sweating copiously during exercise. Almost immediately after I changed my work out, I started to have skin issues on my…

Falling off the wagon? Who pays their dues?
I often see comments in the forum about falling off the wagon diet-wise, and how responders say it's okay to take one day at a time and 'do better tomorrow'. But... Isn't it better to actually pay your dues when you fall off the wagon, and try to make up for it with working out before you close your diary? Today I fell off…

So sad
So... Two months ago, I set a goal for myself to reach a certain weight. I was 170 and I wanted to get to 165 by May 1st. I thought surely that I would reach that goal easily in two months. Well, I've been working my butt of since then, and I am seeing no result. My weight is stuck at 168. It will not move. I am about to…

Soreness required?
This is probably a stupid question, but... if you've lifted weights, and you don't get sore from it, does that automatically mean you did not work hard enough? I always believed that the soreness was the muscles being weakened, and recovering. But I am concerned because sometimes even though I work out really hard, I don't…

Sugar
Hi all, I am doing fairly well, sticking to my MFP calories and so far I've been reaching my weight loss goals. I've found a diet that I am very happy with as it meets my calorie needs and also keeps me satisfied. However, today I realized when looking over the nutritional content of what I've been eating, that I eat three…

Food Addiction
For several years, I was unsuccessful in losing weight because I had a severe food addiction. Food was a coping mechanism for other areas of my life in which I was unhappy, and I wasn't in the right place where I could see food as fuel, rather than pleasure. Now I have divorced, and after removing that emotional issue, my…
