Derby Social Network
Has anyone checked out the derby social network yet? It's derbysocial.com It might be a good way to network with other derby players. It's not real active yet, but new members are being added every day. Check me out, I used my real name (I don't know why), but I'm under Heather Blazer. Hope to see you all on there.…

New years resolutions/plans
 This year, I'm not making a resolution exactly, but I am starting a new diet and fitness program. I just started the wheat belly diet. It's a low carb diet, allowing absolutely no wheat. I'm only on day three but feeling good so far. I have gained so much weight this fall; I know it's time to buckle down and really…

off skates training
Do you all do off skates training, or do you just skate at practice? What kind of other training do you do? I used to run some, and got out of the habit, I'm going to start that again to help my endurance, and just my overall cardiovascular strength. I try to lift weights a little, but I'm not consistent with it at all…

New Skates
OK, so I'm going to get a new pair of skates. My first skates I bought for looks. They were Rock skates, black with red flames. Now, after I've been skating for a year it's time to get a better pair of skates. I'm a big girl, although I'm working on losing wieght (apparantly not too hard, because it's not going anywhere!).…

Injuries
OK, so we've all had or will have injuries. I've had a broken tailbone, and a really bad sprained ankle. Thankfully (Knock on wood), I'm back to skating now, injury free. Well, my tailbone still hurts all the time and still can't skate without my ankle splint, but I still consider this injury free. What are some great ways…

derby practice
Hey, gotta question for all you gals and guys. We have a player on our team that insists that we should have player led practices and not coach led practices. I just was curious about this. She said that most practices are player led and not coach led. Which, I'm like, why do we have a coach in the first place! So I don't…

off season training
Right now it's off season for our team for a couple of months. We still have our skating rink rented out for two practices a week if anyone wants to come. Only a few of us are showing up and I feel like I'm not pushing myself as hard as if the whole team is there. So does anyone have any suggestions for drills for small…

Welcome!
I hope this is a place where we can all support each other and also help each other on our goal toward weight loss and becoming a better derby player. My name is Heather, Hellblazer is my derby name. I started roller derby a year ago and was in the worst possible shape. A year later, I'm about 50 pounds lighter, but have a…

After derby treat
So, a lot of the girls on my team always have the same thing after practice. One girl (a nice skinny girl!) has a banana. One girl has macaroni salad! One girl has a glass of chocolate milk. I always stop by McDonalds and get me an ice cream cone! What about you guys, anything in particular you have after your bouts? I…

endurance drills
Im trying to work on my endurance and on my speed. What are some good exercises on and off skates for endurance training? Anyone have any suggestions?
