My diet starting to bore me!
Been eating incredibly clean for weeks now with occasional indulgence over the weekend. I am no longer looking forward to lunch or dinner. Its all starting to taste bland. I cook meals when I can. Been eating chicken, beans, veggies, eggs, fish, cheese. But now everything tastes like same ol' same ol'. What to do? Put hot…

How much would you spend on a date with person above you?
Assuming you are paying and we are broad minded enough that both men and women can pay. Not about your rules like, I never pay for dinner on a first date.

Store Brand vs Name Brand
As someone who is now venturing into cooking (and might I say, loving it), I have started paying more attention to what I am buying, and the price tag. One decision that I am now faced with is whether to buy store brand or name brand ingredients for my home cooked meals. I can get pretty good deals on store brand…

Exercise/Diet/Genes - your percentages
What percentages would you assign to these three factors in getting a healthy, attractive physique. You can have other factors (such as hormones), as long as the percentages add up to 100%. I think they are: 20%/50%/30%

MFP is like a gay bar
You go to the body building forum and its like 99% muscular guys. And MFP is like 80% women, many of them are good looking and, this is key, trusting. So its like MFP is the yoga class where all the organic food eating, politically correct, men come to meet women, who deem them harmless enough to allow them on their…

resting HR as fitness indicator
What is the skinny on this? I am in decent shape with athletic body fat percentage range; however my resting heart rate is not what I see some other people seem to have even though they are in worse shape/less active. What gives? I wonder if it indicates high blood pressure which runs in the family.

The lowdown on 'burn'
I love the burn. <Toni Horton> bun, bun burnnnnn...... <Toni Horton> But after a while, even when you up the wight the burn is gone. I get the burn in some muscle groups but not others. My legs are stronger than my upper body and I still feel the burn in my legs but I dont feel the burn in biceps, shoulders and triceps. I…

Black Trash Bag Workout
Anyone done the Black Trash Bag Workout regimen, inspired by that movie Silver Linings Playbook, basically working out with a black trash bag wrapped around your body for heat generation. Did it work for you? Inquisitive minds want to know.

HIIT heart rate data points
Wondering what your target HR is when doing HIIT, if you are wearing a HRM. I am able to work 1 minute at 90%, and then slow down for a minute, usually dropping to ~70%. I do this for 21 minutes. Would a superior athlete be able to come down to below 70% in one minute? Should I wait to come down to say 50% even if it means…

Is it more expensive to eat healthy?
So any studies/stats on this? I know that eating your allotted quota of calories using only healthy choices is tough and requires a LOT of food. Wondering if that also translates into more money spent on grocery shopping. And for this discussion, let us ignore the cost of healthcare to a person of poor eating habits.

benching on exercise ball
I dont have a bench at home so have been using exercise ball for dumbbell bench press. The ball gives a little and I have found it harder to bench on ball than on actual bench. Any ideas on whether I can expect similar results. I know that my upper arms (between elbow and shoulder) come to rest on the ball at the down…

Best way to drain can of tuna and recipe
Whats the best way to drain can of tuna so that the tuna salad is not too mushy? Right now I use a can opener and force the top down to drain it but that wastes pieces of tuna and is not very efficient. Is there a better way? What do you put in tuna salad. I am currently putting in walnuts, light mayo, cinnamon and black…

Men < 6 feet tall question
Question primarily for the ladies but guys can chip in too. Should men of an average height ever be lean? Women tend to discriminate against men less than 6 feet tall. So in order to overcome the height issue, should such a man be big - either fat or muscly. I'm thinking that for such a man, if he were to be at an optimal…

How accurate is MFP's exercise calorie calculator
I rode a stationary bike and covered 20 miles in 55 minutes. This site has a 'vigorous biking' option and a 'moderate biking' option. I would think my effort was vigorous as I was riding over 20mph. The 'vigorous' option says I burned 890 calories and the moderate puts me at 500 calories. Which one should I pick and how…
