Body fat scale?
Anyone have a scale that you can recommend? Ours died months ago, and i haven't worried about it -- I weigh myself at the gym now. But, since i've always weighed myself 1st thing in morning before eating, this means I end up doing my workout w/out eating breakfast on days when i weigh (once a week or less) -- not really a…

Cookbook recommendations
I've found several websites with good paleo recipes, but i really prefer having a book I can leaf through when i'm not at the computer for meal planning. I have several (primal blueprint cookbook, paleo comfort foods, and paleo cookbook) on hold at our library, but while i'm waiting for those to see which one I'll want to…

Recipe Exchange Anyone?
Hi All-- Now that I'm over a month into this new way of eating, I've gotten a bit more creative with my cooking, but am still on the hunt for good interesting recipes. I have zero budget for a new cookbook right now, but have at least 3 on hold from our library (they are in very high demand, apparently, as i've been…

Best strategies for what to eat while travelling
I will be traveling in about a month -- just for a weekend -- but am already trying to think ahead about what the best bets are for eating while traveling, especially when you don't necessarily have all the control over where you eat -- b/c of traveling with others, attending a wedding, etc. Which meats are safest/best…

Plateau Frustrations -- Grrr.
Okay, so I've technically lost 11 lbs in 7 weeks, as of tomorrow. Not bad overall. But, the first 5 lbs came off in the first 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of plateau, then roughly another 5 lbs lost in week 5 -- the week i first eliminated all sugar/grains. Then 2 weeks of another plateau. Is this normal? I know since I only have…

Lots of questions from a primal newbie
So, according to MDA i read somewhere that you aren't really even supposed to count anything -- even carbs. Just eat according to the plan. But obviously most of us are on MFP b/c we find 'counting' and 'tracking' to be helpful. My question is, in addition to watching your macros, keeping carbs down (under 100 g or…

How often do you totally go off plan or splurge?
My 4-yr old son's birthday is in two weeks, and i'm debating whether or not i should plan for a little controlled splurge and have some birthday cake, or just soldier on and let him and my hubby eat cake while I stick to my new no sugar- no grains lifestyle? So far i haven't had a very hard time giving up sugar, and even…

Interpreting blood lipid panel/cholesterol numbers
I'm starting to understand that our conv wisdom of cholesterol is pretty messed up, that lower is not always better, that saturated fats are not the enemy, etc. But, i'm confused about what this means in terms of the standard blood lipid panel results. My cholesterol numbers have always been very good -- most recently,…

Eating Clean -- what does this mean for you?
I read lots of posts by people who talk about 'eating clean'. What exactly does this mean if you follow it? No sugar? No processed foods? Does that include no cheese, e.g.? What about dairy -- yogurt? milk? Canned foods like garbanzo/black beans or canned tomatoes? Salsa? What about processed meats -- e.g., ham? Curious.

Calories burned in Boot Camp classes
What do most people use on MFP's categories if you're doing a boot camp class? I found either 'calisthenics -- vigourous' or 'circuit training' yield about the same amount of calories burned. Are these the best estimates? I started a 'Fit Body Bootcamp' 3 times this week, and still trying to figure out how best to…

How accurate are MFP exercise calories?
I generally try to eat back most of my exercise calories, but now am starting to wonder if it overestimates calories burned. When I use a machine at the gym that has its own counter, i tend to use that instead, and it's usually a bit lower than MFP's. But, today I compared MFP with another website activity calculator:…

Bowel irregularities
Not the most pleasant of topics, but i've been having problems feeling sort of constipated over the past week -- and weight loss has stalled a bit as a result -- even though i'm eating plenty of fiber. I generally eat all my calories and eat back most of my exercise calories. I eat pretty healthy -- a few convenience…

What low-fat, low-cal, or processed foods do you rely on?
IF you, like me, try your best to eat mostly healthy, whole foods, organic, unprocessed, home made whenever possible, but yet find yourself short of the time needed to do it all home-made and unprocessed while also watching calories, what foods do you rely on -- especially for lunch, snacks, and recipe short-cuts -- that…

Almost in 'healthy' range for my BMI!
Just wanted to post my mini-success here: I've lost 5 lbs in 4 weeks, and am now right on the borderline of that magic 'healthy' rating for my BMI! Only a half pound more to go till i'm below 25! Haven't seen that number for over a year now. I also just discovered the 'reports' section of this site, which is an awesome way…

I hate potlucks & family gatherings!!
It would be so much easier to lose weight if it wasn't for potlucks and social gatherings. Sometimes I feel like I should just stop socializing all together for the next 3 months so I can really lose this weight. L-:( Does anyone have any tips for coping with food-related social events? I was having an okay week -- not a…

New member in Northern CA
Hi-- I was looking for a free online calorie counter/food diary, and this one seems to have most of what I'm looking for. I am 45, mom to a very active 1 yr old boy, and put on about 15 lbs over the past year and a half. It's not that much to lose, but many of my clothes don't fit, and it has been a big struggle to stick…
