Shoe Changes
I've have my marathon in 3 weeks from tomorrow. I have been training in 2 pair of shoes. My Nike Pegasus shoes, more cushion for my long runs. And my Saucony Kinvara for everything else. I'm thinking seriously of using my Saucony for my marathon. They are lighter weight and I have less tendency to heal strike. I've been…

Monk fruit sweetener
I don't use or like artificial sweeteners. But am always intrigued by new ones or the latest developments. I was reading this am of a monk fruit sweetener as an alternative to stevia. Has anyone tried this? Looks like they sell it as nectresse. I havent read the product box yet but wonder what it's like.

Scabs, Scars, Chafing
I am finding that more and more I am coming back from my long runs battered up. I have chafing, yes I use stuff for it, but still happens. My fuel belt that has never been a problem is now rubbing and leaving my skin with sores. I also have bruises on my hips from it. My latest is my Ipod Shuffle, clipped to my belt as it…

Wheat Belly
I'm reading the book Wheat Belly. It's very informative for understanding why wheat/gluten in our diets is not a healthy source. It's written by a cardiologist who seems to be very straight forward in his delivery of information. There is a lot of indepth information as to the history and sources of wheat, but that's…

Marathon Plan
I'm 5 weeks out from my marathon, it's my second, and my first I finished, but with injury and this one I really want to "run" the whole thing, not walk/run as I did to finish before. I'm doing the same one again. I've done my training runs, have already ran 20 miles on 4 previous occasions, I did 20 miles today, have…

Team BeachBody Meal Plans
I'm trying to do something a little different. I quit eating meat and am needing some direction getting proper nutrition on a more vegetarian diet plan. So I signed up for the Team Beach Body Vegetarian Plan. Has anyone had success with this program? I'm not really needing weight loss. I"m marathon training, so really just…

Muscle Weight ?
I really really hope this doesn't create a debate. I am really insearch of an answer. I searched the forums already and can't get past and answer in the 10K posts of muscle weighs more than fat.. which this is NOT that, I understand that stupid dead horse. Here is my question - my weight is up - however, my body fat% has…

Pool Running
I am taking to the pool for marathon training apparently. Concerns of a stress fracture, or will be one if I don't do something different. I've ordered book, and it's likely that I can use a friends wave pool she has in her house. So give me the details on pool running... time in the pool, what specifically do I need to…

Tummy Troubles - TMI Warning
Help, I have a new "issue" that has now occurred in my last 5 training runs, and I need this fixed prior to my race. I get up about 4:00 for my training run, due to the summer heat. I"m very "regular" and use the facilities first thing in the AM, never feel like there's a problem. I leave around 5:00 AM for 18-20 miles.…

HR & Calorie Burn
I'm probably not going to ask this correctly, probably use the wrong terms and not really make sense - but "I" know what I mean :) ... Anyway, I use a HRM for my calorie burn, my GPS watch doesn't calculate, so I go to a website and put my age, weight, avg HR, and time into the calculator, and I get an estimated calorie…

Hamstring & Biking
I cross train my running program for marathon training using a stationary indoor trainer for my bike. My problem is the more I ride - the more my hamstrings just scream from overuse. I only bike 2x per week, about an hour each time, I run 3x per week, about 30-35 miles total running. I also do Brazil Butt Lift about 30…

UGH I ate a Hamburger
Not really intentionally, just more out of desire of what to eat I haven't each much meat in the past few months. Not that I have anything against meat. I was raised with a father a beef farmer, a husband that is a hunter, and I'm good with meat, except for me. It's just not something that ever sounds good, I avoid cheese…

Am I strong enough?
So I'm still at the office. We are remodeling, my boss is laying hardwood floors. I am tired and want to go home (got up at 4 to run my 18 miles). So I took it upon myself to unload the remainder of the planks from the truck. As I carrying box one of 9 into the office, he asks "what are you doing?" I said - Unloading the…

Exercise and anemia
I meet with my arnp on my blood work as soon as she can get me in. It may be 3 weeks. I have blood anemia something to do with the red blood cels. My question is I'm starting full marathon training officially on Sunday. I was hopeful to do doubles but not feeling good enough to do all I was doing. I am only running 3x per…

What makes a Good Course
I ran a half marathon yesterday, the course was TERRIBLE, IMO. I keep reading FB pages for various sites saying "great course". It sucked. I ran hard, was 2 min short of my PR and happy with my results as I worked for it. However, my faults: 1. It was 2/3 up hill, OK, I was prepared for that but even the "down hill"…

Low Iron ?
I have recently changed to a more vegetarian type of diet. Not full vegetarian, just basically, I'm not a big meat eater. I despise chicken, I have been avoiding red meat (pork, beef, bison, game)... I try to eat eggs often, and will eat seafood on occasion. I'm getting concerned that I'm low in Iron and not sure how to…

Bruises and Compression Pants
I've always worn compression pants to run. I wear a capri that goes about mid-calf. I will use them for recovery, but under a dr recommendation, I have generally ran my long runs in them. I don't have any circulation issues, but dr felt it would be best as I do have sciatic issues. I have sometimes gotten these weird…

GPS Forerunner Question
So, I'm curious to understand the operation of my garmin - I'm confused. So sometimes, I'll glance at it for pace - it will way 9:06 pretty consistently for a mile, then when it beeps the mile is past, it say "mile 4 at 9:14) - or sometimes just the opposite - says 9:24 whenever I glance, then beeps the mile at 9:01. I'm…

Born to Run - News
I'm saddened by the news today that the man in the book - Born to Run - The White Horse - or Micha True - was found dead in NM after a 4 day search for him when he went on a run and never came back. Guess he died doing what he loved. :(

NOVA Marathon Challenge Netflix
I watched this last night. It's a Nova program, where they took 12 or 13 non-runners and in 40 weeks trained them to run the Boston Marathon. Interesting movie, fun to watch, and inspirational.

PAP Upper
DId this for the first time this AM! LOVE LOVE LOVE It. Oh wow, intense w/o even knowing it. Really got a great work out in. This is not strength training with just lifting weight, it's active movements. I love my kettlebell routines so much, this is right up there with functional strength.

Height
Does the height of the runner or length of ones legs make you faster. I'm short 5'4". My Dh is 6'6". He was "walking" on my parents treadmill then told me he was walking at 6 mph. I'm not fast but not super slow either. I do some training runs on a treadmill and at 6 mph I'm running. dH is so not a runner and he really…

Note to Self
When one goes out on a long traing run for 12 miles 2 weeks before a half marathon one is trying to PR. One must remember to not pick the very very steep hilly route when it is 30 degrees and 20 mph winds. I learned what those poor birds trying to fly into the wind face. At mile 11 I was quite thrilled to see my boss drive…

Wii Zumba ?
I just got this and have been having fun with the kids with it. I have a couple questions... 1. The belt is too big, I'm having trouble keeping it on, there is no velcro left around it - any suggestions, w/o simply sewing it smaller. 2. The remote keeps coming out of the pocket, any suggestions to keeping it in. 3. I've…

Marathon question
I'm running my 4th half marathon in March. I also have one on April and May. I'm hoping to PR in March and doing my other runs as fun runs with a friend. I'm signed up to run my second marathon in October. I'm presently running 15 miles on my long runs. I will taper before march race. I just found a marathon I'd like to…

I would highly recommend this book for anyone working on trying to decrease your weight in endurance sports. I also have the "quick start" guide which is extremely helpful.
